FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- The compliance officer at the University of Tulsa says the school has been given clearance to talk to Arkansas quarterback Mitch Mustain.

Mustain, a freshman, has left the Arkansas campus and Razorbacks coach Houston Nutt has cleared Mustain to seek a transfer. Tulsa is where former Arkansas offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn took a job as assistant head coach earlier this week. Malzahn was Mustain's high school coach at Springdale.

Mustain could wait until the spring semester is over to pick a new school. Nutt has left open the possibility for Mustain to return to the Razorbacks.

Louisville has issued a statement that it is not interested in Mustain.

Arkansas director of compliance Marvin Caston says Texas Tech and Texas-El Paso have expressed interest in Mustain.

Strange. I wonder what his deal is.

Maybe he's actually interested in school work until he can sort out where to transfer to.

That's part of it - but I think another part is he wants to "shop around" for a big-name school. It's being reported now that he's saying that USC has expressed an interest.

I think he has his heart set on being in a major school. By enrolling - but getting his release - he can maintain his classes for transfer, see if there is sufficient interest, and if not, decide between going to Tulsa with Mahlzan or back to the Razorbacks.
