huskerinflorida
Monte Kiffin was born in Lexington, NE. He shed blood on the field for the Huskers as a player from 1959-1963. He coached with Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne for 10 Years and was a coach for the National Title Teams of that era. Is currently the longest tenured defensive coordinator in the NFL at 25 seasons. As DC for Tampa Bay Bucaneers, he is the father of the often imitated 'Tampa Cover 2' defense. Monte Kiffin has established himself as one the NFL's best defensive minds of the modern era. Led the Bucs to a Super Bowl win in '02 that was fueled by the best defense in the NFL since the '85 Bears. Has kept the Tampa Bays defense as one of the best in the league for over 10 straight seasons. Completley ignored by Steve Pederson after Solich firing. Would bring Nebraska a Pete Caroll at USC type coach. There is no better choice t be the Head Football Coach at Nebraska in 08. Quote Link to comment

He is about to the end of his coaching career and i would doubt he would want to undertake this kind of project at his age. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
From what I understand Monte has said he's not interested in the job now, but I don't recall a direct quote saying as much. I think he would be a good DC, but I have no idea if he's qualified to be HC. Quote Link to comment

You don't think he hasn't interviewed for jobs? And he's old, we need a younger guy. And what makes you think he would bring a Pete Carrol type guy in? I'm just perplexed by this post. Sure he's from Nebraska and loves the state and program but I don't think he's the right guy for the job. I'm sure he's close to retiring anyway. Sorry, not my choice, but then again neither is Bo Pelini... Quote Link to comment
husker rob
i think that when he is done coaching at Tampa Bay, he is going to retire from coaching. he is what 65 years old now? do se him making any changes at this point in his life Quote Link to comment

Barrett Ruud (LB for Kiffin now) was asked about the possibility of him returning to NU, and Ruud shot it down right away. He said Monte doesnt have an interest in leaving the Bucs. Wouldn't you rather see a guy come in who would be here 10, 15, 20 years and build a dynasty? Beside... I think most college kids would be more in tune with someone not eligible for Social Security. huskerinflorida
He is 66. Not Young but not Joe Paterno either. Its a fact in the Tampa Bay area he would have taken the job in '03 if they offered it. Could be Head Coach if a good Off. Coordinator was brought in... Quote Link to comment
HuskerPharaoh
I thought Monte was interested in the job after Solich was fired and kind of po'd that he did not get an interview...or maybe my memory is mush... Quote Link to comment
bethelbacker
Let me reiterate: No chance. Quote Link to comment

I dont think Monte would have no problem recruiting defensive players. They would jump at the chance to play for a guy who can prepare them to play defense in the NFL.....And he could since he invented modern NFL defense. Quote Link to comment

Da Man
I think the next coach hired is probably someone that NU wants to be around for the next 10-15 years. I think Kiffen may coach for another 5 years max. Quote Link to comment
