CNN calls election for Obama

I am still amazed America voted for a socialist to be the next President of the United States.

my sentiments exactly, the only thing thats worse is even if mccain was pres we'd still would've been voting for socialism..... seems like washington dc has already "changed", the only thing i feel that could get this county back on track now is the second amendment(i'm probably one of few who feel this way)

It is funny the short term memory involved in politics. In her first weeks on the ticket Palin was touting how proud she was that Alaska "shared the wealth" and that Alaska is sometimes refered to as the "Socialist state". It took America only a few weeks to forget that and she was so adept at spinning it the other way.

Sarah Palin is about as cool as a Husker b*******.

You really dont understand what socialism is then. Socialism is collective ownership, or government ownership of all means of production and distribution. Being against 'trickle-down economics' is hardly socialism. Repealing some of the Bush tax cuts, and making a move so everyone can get access to health care doesnt make a socialist.

you know what's funny is the people who say they "don't want socialism and so they're headed to Canada!" When in fact Canada is pseudo-socialistic as it is. If I asked everyone here should all Americans have health care as a right of citizenship much like Canada does, what would you say?

the fact is a lot of Americans want to do what's best for themselves and not what's best for society as a whole. We have many of the richest people in the world right here in America....but we also have a lot of the poorest. And I think if you are blessed with being successful enough to be in the top percentile of Americans who have a large amount of wealth, you owe it to the society you live in to give back to it. It's not a socialist view...it's a humanitarian view. And it's what America should be about.

I'm not a religious person by any means but I know that it is said Christ told his followers to give to the less fortunate. He said if you were in the position to help out others financially then you were to do so. Strange that many Christians would be condemning this as 'socialism'.

As strigori said, Obama will not set up a government agency to plan the economy. He will not as president, require businesses to meet targets for production. He will not outlaw profit. He is not trying to create a socialistic economy. If he was, do you think Warren Buffet would be supporting him?

Some of you people better move on because like it or not he is YOUR president now. I voted for him and I stand behind my vote. If McCain would've won I would be standing behind him right now because that is what we as American's need to do. To me this race has always been not about black or white or red or blue, but about who is the best candidate to bring us out of this mess that we are in right now. We have our differences, but some of you are being a little difficult with this. There is nothing you can do about and he ran an almost mistake free campaign. It was a decisive decision and those of us that are Democrats will have no excuses now that we have power in the House, Senate, and Presidency. I voted for Bush this last time around and I was sick to my stomach over this past 4 years because of the job that he has done. I will cross party lines if I have to, to vote for the person that I think is right for the job. Go get it done Obama...............

Its not a democrat thing, or a black thing its a him thing. I remember reading when Jimmy Carter won...

It was the same thing. Nixon had lost the confidence of the American people...and the country turned out in groves to vote AGAINST the government...and we got Carter. History tells us that he was one of the most harmful President's in U.S. history. History has a way of repeating itself sometimes. History will also tell you that people are somewhat ignorant on lots of things and generaly dont vote with a knowledgable mind. People voted for a strong speaker, a good looker, and swallowed a whole pitcher full of this mans koolaid. Wheather they voted him because hes black, because hes for change, because hes has socalistic views i dont care. I say this now and until hes gone. He will Never be my president. And its my right as a citizen of this country that allows me that right, at least for now.

Bennychio i dont think you fully understand what we can possibly win or loose here. Being arrogant is probally something not wise since it could be brought up latter.

Then you should not be guilty of the same thing. I sense a lot of arrogance in what you are posting. You have already made a judgment on what history will have to say about Obama's presidency before he has even taken the oath of office.

Any idea that Carter was more harmful than Bush is lunacy.

Hasnt the last 10 or so years of ultra-partisanship been enough? What this country needs is to get off the high horses and get some stuff done, without outright refusing to hear an idea from the other side.

If his idea of diplomacy is the same as Bill Clinton's, then America will find itself pretty popular with most of the rest of the world.

And america had the most deployments since WW II. Using our military to make nice with the rest of the world is a sh*t idea.

No doubt. We should go on a world tour of ass kicking for absolutely no reason. That'll show em!!!!1111

Exactly. How can anyone surmise what Obama's place in history will be will be before he has even taken the oath of office.

It is also ironic that Wagon knocks Obamas speaking skills when the Republican demigod that replaced Carter was a skilled speaker\actor but he was short on substance. Reagan was like Palin in the fact that when he didn't have a stance he would give a stump speech on another issue. And guess wut? Trickle down doesn't work!!

Then stating that you are staying dog loyal to the WORST president in history? Good for you!
