HuskerfaninOkieland
What was decided on this? Quote Link to comment
HSKRNOKC
Just a thought but after the bowl would be a good time for this.. Quote Link to comment
Landlord
I was the one who originally came up with this, but I don't have time to do it. So if a mod or someone else wants to step up and take control I am totally fine with it. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
I have an idea for this kind of thing, something we do on another board I frequent, and it's quite a bit of fun. Let me know if you're interested and I'll break it down. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
And I'm not saying I want to run it, but I will. Just let me know if this thing is going or not. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
Here's the idea: We create a Huskerboard Starting Lineup. We nominate users for positions like Head Coach, QB, WR and Equipment Manager based on their posting style and the position "job description." After nominations are in we vote for the person we think best fits the position, and fill out a lineup. It's kind of a pat on the back for a job well done over the year. You start off with Head Coach nominations, then when nominations for HC are done you have your HC vote. While voting for HC you open up nominations for Offensive Coordinator, and then proceed down the roster, nominating for one and voting for the other until all positions are filled. It takes, tops, about a month to finish. Here's the job descriptions for Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator as examples: Head Coach Criteria: 1) Teacher - You have come to learn from this guy on a regular basis. He has expert knowledge of Husker football. He is always helpful and willing to help you out with something you need, whether on the boards or PMs...especially newcomers. 2) Play Caller - This guy “runs the show” in his mind. You often see him on Huskerboard organizing several "audibles" at any given time in a heated topic of discussion. He’s been know to get some of his preseason predictions right, and his knowledge of Husker football is second to none. He often sways the opinions of the majority in a discussion thread. 3) Worldly Knowledge - Even though some coaches use a "cheat sheet" with all the plays on them, our Head Coach doesn't need them. This member is active in numerous areas of Huskerboard, offering insights on various topics already posted, and keeping Huskerboard informed of breaking news or important subjects. Offensive Coordinator Criteria: 1) Relayer - "The OC" (as he may be called) has to hand down the offensive play call to the Head Coach for it to be implemented in the game. So, this poster is someone who likes to give out new breaking stories or updates to players & coaches, and does it very often. 2) Tactician - The Offensive Coordinator has to sense weaknesses in a defense throughout the whole game and can sense changes quickly enough to call a play that will exploit the opponent. In Huskerboard-land, this poster is able to find flaws in weaker arguments and rebut it with the most pertinent facts and stats to gain himself "yardage" in the thread. 3) Student of the game - Offensive Coordinators normally start out as a coach in another capacity on a team or several teams, such as QB or WR coach. They can teach the players on the field and call the plays during the game. So, I would have to say there's a lot of experience that must be gained to take this position. Therefore, this poster should be a veteran of the site who has been here long enough to understand the ins and outs of the "offense" in the form of posts and threads. The positions are: Coaching Staff Head Coach - Offensive Coordinator - Defensive Coordinator - Offense QB - RB - RB - WR - WR - WR - FB - TE - TE - OT - OG - C - OG - OT - Special Teams/Support Staff K - P - KR - PR - Water Boy - Towel Boy - Equipment Manager - I have job descriptions for all of these positions. I also have a list of position descriptions for Defense and some more Special Teams positions as well, depending on how many roster spots we want to have. Let me know what you think. knapplc
I'm lifting/tweaking this idea from another board I'm a member of, where we've done this for the past several years with great success. It's a lot of fun, especially if we can get someone with some graphics skills to make sigs/userbars for the positions. It's nice to be able to say, "My peers thought this of me" in such a manner. Here are my last few userbars from past positions: The Cafe has some pretty draconian sig size limits. With Huskerboard's higher KB limit, I'm sure we could get some pretty nice sigs made up. Typically the Admins are placed in the Owner/GM positions, which would translate into AD/Director of Football Operations for our purposes. People elected into positions get to choose their number, with the highest vote-getter getting first dibs on numbers for RB/WR/TE/OT/OG, since there are multiples at those positions. It's best to do this during the offseason, but you've got to pick your spot wisely so you have enough people around to get decent nominations/votes. This is intended to be a fun, team-building event, so participation is key. Quote Link to comment
HuskerfaninOkieland
I like the idea. I say we start it up in the next week or so. Call it the 2009 All-Huskerboard Team or something like that Quote Link to comment
BIGREDIOWAN
That sounds like a cool idea knapp. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
I like the idea. I say we start it up in the next week or so. Call it the 2009 All-Huskerboard Team or something like that I was thinking just after the bowl game, with a thread in the Contest Crib describing it soon, and a link in my sig to the thread. Do people even look at sigs anymore? Or do most people have them turned off? Quote Link to comment
Drowning_in_the_Sea_of_Red
I've got my eye on that towel boy position.
