Red Dawn
Its a tradition thing... that red N stands for so much more than just this years team. Like you said, NU football has been around 110 years! During those years, Nebraska found an identity that no other place in the country can match. Its our history, our tradition... that N symbolizes people both past and present who have played for and supported the team through the ups and downs over the past century. To those it offended, its a lack of respect. While it may motivate FAU players to think they can hang with Nebraska, it was childish at best.... but coming from a 9 yr old, we would expect nothing less. FAU can burn the L they take home after Saturday, if they arent too sore to get out of bed the next day! is dumb. I am embarrassed for you just reading it. You are the same type of fan that would fight over someone saying something bad about the Huskers. I hope they burn another one, just for you. Quote Link to comment
jjamuss
That is why you don't understand what the N means to the players and many fans. It is the symbol of our proud tradition. Wearing the Red N on their helmets is what any young Husker fan dreams of. I can see that, and we just dont have anything like that as of yet to get all riled up about. It will all come in time I suppose. sadly, you probably wont live long enough to get the magnitude of what a century of tradition means to your team... not wishing you a short life of course. But our traditions werent a spur of the moment thing... they were passed from class to class, team to team and generation to generation. Come to Lincoln, its the ONLY way you can understand. Captain K
Just poor timing is all. ''N'' happened to be the letter of the day on Sesame Street that day. If you take into account the maturity level of our board and their probable viewing habits, you'd understand better. The red just brought up images of Elmo. Quote Link to comment

Must have been my UNL education. "Nebraska fans are the best, most gracious fans around?" Funny how you want to burn the guy at the stake for having a pep rally. Just by playing this game it will probably pay them enough to keep the program funded for the next ten years. I think it is a pretty big deal to FAU. In your case N stands for....NumbNut. knapplc
"Nebraska fans are the best, most gracious fans around?" Aren't you? I mean, don't you strive to be the best? Don't you strive to be gracious? Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
My take is that it's amateur-ish.. it's high-school-ish (reminded me of that pep rally from Grease, lol). Actually, I thought it looked pretty cool (the video). But, you have to wonder why it takes a stunt like that to get them fired up. I mean come on, FAU admitted that they were overconfident last year which lead to struggles. Overconfident???? I understand they're a young program that has risen fairly quickly, BUT they have yet to beat a BCS team, sounds like Coach Smellyburger is a bit desperate for motivation. Am I offended by it? Hell no. Are the players? Very likely. Anyway, here's a little comparison... NU: claps winning/losing team off field FAU: burns/destroys opponent symbols before game I'm all for FAU starting traditions (VERY IMPORTANT), but maybe try to start some classier ones? I'm sorry, did you just accuse another team and their fans of being "high-school-ish" and then refer to their coach as "Smellyburger"? I'm a random fan on a message board. Not a Division I head coach. No problem with the fans, I'm questioning the coach/athletic department for arranging the stunt. If it had been random fans that did it, then who cares? Anyway, it's the internets here, not a school function. I get to say what I want You certainly do, as do I. And I think it's amusing in a sad way to see someone accuse others of what amounts to childish behavior and then call their coach "Smellyburger". Quote Link to comment
EbylHusker
By the way, Owl, I live in Lincoln and love Husker football. Coming to Lincoln wouldn't necessarily make you understand why some people are bothered by this. I live here and I don't get it. And soon now will come the comment that I'm not a real fan, wait for it... Quote Link to comment
knapplc
What is a "real" fan? There are all different kinds. It's not as if we're all of one mind over... anything. Anything at all. Everyone has an opinion. Discussing and debating those opinions is why we come here. Telling someone they're not a fan because they're not chapped about the bonfire is pretty silly, don't you think? Or from people like Red Dawn saying that because we are bothered by it we are numb nuts, dumb, etc. It goes both ways, I love how people always play the victim card. We are expressing ideas, if you don't agree then say that. Just don't get upset if that poster or other posters take you to task for it because someone will try to take them to task also.
