Shawn Watson

Recommended Posts

Four quarterbacks and two head coaches into it, I think it's time to admit that Shawn Watson might be something special. He comes in with good gameplans and adapts during the game even better than Osborne.

Watson is going to have more talent than ever in the coming years and be able to show why a modified WCO is hell for opposing defenses to prep for. Not to mention more fun to watch.

Let's hope we can hang onto him.*

From what he said at the breakfast last Friday, he is here to stay... unless they can him; as if!!

Let see he gets around 300k no reason to leave for say 2.5 million.

Money still talks the rest is just bs and walks!

I worry with sCUm looking at a horrible season that Wats will be looked at as the replacement for Hawks I'd really like to have him for another 3 to 5 years.

T_O_B

Colorado can not afford to fire him They must pay 2 to 2.5 million. And then pony up much more for new guy and fire the AD for giving a new contract to a loser coach!

But the boys at Notre Dame would pay big for the likes of Watson. And at Notre Dame, all that gold you see all over every dome in sight, is really gold! They have the cash! And many others may come calling! We have a very low pay scale! Enjoy Watson while you can hne will not be here for long!

Not to throw any cold water on the love-fest of Shawn Watson, but Nebraska next big win against a top 25 team will be the first win for (Watson) Nebraska offense. <_<

I agree. Although I hope S Watson stays put for a long time and sees this thing through (offense is not Bo's strong suit), if you are looking for this from outside; Colorado would possibly be the only major program that might be interested in SW. With no head coaching experience and no stellar NCS recent resume as a dynamite assistant I don't think Notre Dame would be interested. Colorado might be strapped for cash and offer something of a lowball figure for a HC and it would entice Watson. All this stuff about being happy as an assistant is true--UNLESS you get to be a HC at a major program. At even 3 or 4 times the money he is getting it is impossible to refuse.

For him to be considered for an elite program like Notre Dame (recent performance not withstanding) will requre our Huskers to break out and not tie for the North Big xii but win the Big XII Championship and go BCS bowling with an elite offense and along the way beating teams like VT on the road. We cannot get shut down and embarassed during the season. ND has likley had all the coaching "projects" they want.

I think we can do it. But we have not done it yet. Saturday is a big step for the Big Red and possibly a huge resume enhancer for Shawn Watson. GBR

I don't think he'd ever leave for another coordinator position . . . but did you notice that he corrected himself and said he'd never leave for an "assistant coaching" job at another school? If he gets a head coaching job offer he is gone. I can't blame him . . . and it says good things about your program when you have coaches that are moving up the ranks. (and I think Bo is a head coach who will encourage his assistants to further their careers)

I'm sure he will end up as a head coach in the near future but he's at a comfort level at the moment and enjoying it. Sometimes the almighty dollar isn't what drives people to advance. Right now he is the head dude of Nebraska's offense. I have to admire what he has done with his qb's over his stint at Nebraska. That's the most impressive part. But on a national level, most major teams looking for a head coach are after the offensive coordinator of the team that just won it all or a big splash name. Lesser programs are willing to be a stepping stone for someone like Watson (say an Auburn :) ). Comfort, security, and a boss that delegates authority to you means alot. Watson is a good fit here at the moment but he really hasn't done squat against major teams. If we have 3 points against V Tech...........Quit drinking the koolaide and you'll quit panicing!!! He's growing with the rest of the program.

I doubt Watson would leave for Colorado. Didn't he specifically say last week how much better he likes it at NU than CU?

As someone above noted he qualified his remarks that he was referring to not leaving Nebraska for another assistant's position. At his age and level in the coaching profession the clock is ticking big time. In my opinion there is no way he would turn down a HC position at Colorado at between a mil and a mil and half.--think about it --it is several times what he is making annually. It gives him autonomy--what any person in his position really wants. The ability to do it your way in Your program. After another few years, he will be considered too old to get his first HC position. It's truly a strange career path--you have to jump when the opportunity presents itself and see how it works out. Colorado might be a good job for Shawn Watson--but I hope they don't offer and I hope he doesn't accept. He is doing the job we need done.
