skersfan
Not certain of all the facts, but he dropped a weight set on his throat during bench press excercise. Has been in surgery since 2 this afternoon and still there at 9pm tonight. Does not sound good. I know he is not a Husker and this is the wrong board, but it sounds to be a very sad situation. My prayers to Stephan and his family and SC family. Quote Link to comment
WCHusker
He's probably done for the year & also expected to make a full recovery http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/1014036...ifting-accident Nice job spotter Quote Link to comment

knapplc
Saw that on the ticker while watching some MNF last night. Horrible injury. It's something I never really thought of when I used to lift, but it can happen and it can be life-threatening. Quote Link to comment
Bradr
Ouch! Glad that he will make it through this injury. A video of this happening is the reason I only use dumb bells now. Can't trust those spotters... Quote Link to comment
mattbri17
How, as a spotter, do you even allow that to happen? I can't imagine how that (so called) spotter has to feel. Quote Link to comment
DJR313
Praying for the best for him and his family, what a freak accident. Quote Link to comment
Fuzzy
I heard they dont know if he is going to be able to talk again... Quote Link to comment
skersfan
This morning he was still in critical condition but stable. To bad as the kid had turned his life around. He is a south central project. He was a very hard worker supposedly. Really sad that a young person has this happen. Quote Link to comment

Stu
If that bar slipped, with no warning, I don't see how anyone could physically be able to catch all that weight right out of the air like that. I couldn't imagine how scary that would be... Hope he pulls through to 100%. Quote Link to comment
Husker Richard
If that bar slipped, with no warning, I don't see how anyone could physically be able to catch all that weight right out of the air like that. I couldn't imagine how scary that would be... Hope he pulls through to 100%. exactly, all these people like "what was the spotter doing" have obviously never lifted weights. a spotter is usually only there to help you get those last few reps up and in the case when you can't, help you put the bar back on the rack. stefan wasn't competitively lifting, where they have spotters behind and on each side of the barbell to catch heavy weight in the event that the lifter cannot lift it. he was just repping some weight in a typical workout. i don't care who you are, if you were spotting him and the bar slipped out of nowhere there would be no way you could react quickly enough to catch 275 lbs before it landed on him. skersfan
Just an unfortunate accident. No one at fault. I am sure there will be more on ESPN tonight about it. I just hope he recovers, what a loss for him and his family. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
I think "what was the spotter doing" is a pretty natural response. Anyone who has lifted would know that if a freak accident occurred there's next to nothing the spotter could do, but it's still a natural question. It was the first thing I thought of, and I've got experience with lifting. Quote Link to comment
