Completely agree with this. I think the offense needs to be looked at closely. Hopefully we give green a chance. Not saying that he's going to be a savior I mean I remember 2003 we were all wanting dailey to replace lord and how'd that work out. But I'm willing to have a few mistakes from green in return for athletic runs. Atleast playin Baylor and Iowa state these next two weeks would give him the opportunity to get his feet wet. Just a thought.

I think we're being a bit too harsh. While I thought the performance was pretty horrendous, I don't think calling for the staff's heads is the right call. If you ask me where the most concerns lie, its right here:

WAY too many mistakes. These are player mistakes, not coaches. While I understand the discipline is often a direct reflection of the staff, the coaches aren't the one's playing. It's hard for me to say this because I personally believe its a coaches RESPONSIBILITY to take all the blame whether its warranted or not. In this case, I have to stand up for them a bit before they get stoned to death.

wow, we actually outyarded them. I agree that we shouldn't be calling for a coaches head, but I'm pretty sure the read option is pretty much the only running play we saw today, especially when the game mattered. Now, that play is decent, especially since you can go to a playaction off it so quickly, but it loses something when the defense doesn't respect your QB as a running threat at all.

it just seems like we have the biggest, smallest playbook ever if that makes any sense.

What I want to know is why the the hell were we taking so long to run plays while we're down by 21? Did we forget the game wasn't over and decide just to run it out since even our OC had no confidence in his play calling? What the hell was going on there, 9 minutes that got us nothing. We ran out the clock for them, and better than they did. I know we are our own worst enemy anymore but Jesus that is just getting stupid.

When the commentators see it and wonder "WTF?" that's when there is a problem. Now the national media is sitting there wondering does our OC even have a clue what his job entails. He ran the same zone read 5 times in a row and only once did Lee keep the ball. We gained a total of 14 yards in that time, Helu got us the first down then was stuffed the last 4 times. If we run the same friggin play over and over and over does Watson think that maybe he'll fool them once? The play calling was worse than terrible, he needs to go.

I really want to know why the o line has so many false starts. I'm open to thoughts. QB snap count issues. Brain dead linemen. Audibles mess up their count. Scared linemen easily psyched out by a blitz....What?

You look across the country and see plenty of lines with inferior size and talent not accounting for 50 yards of penalties per game. It comes down to coaching, plain and simple. They're not disciplined because they're not coached to play disciplined. Or run block, apparently. They couldn't open a hole to save themselves from the fires of hell.

I really question Watson, whether it is Green or Lee, I do not see them in a position to succeed. Watson has gone away from the run way to much. There are way to many penalties, and the players are not mentally sharp on the offensive side of the ball. The defense played well enough to give the team a shot to win. If the offense plays mistake free ball, I think NU wins this one. It was over when niles paul watched a fumble drop and did nothing as a Tech player scored. The whole team watched that play no one reacted.

Unnacceptable. I really question if Shawn Watson is the right guy. We need a coordinator that can commit to a power running game and have an offense that does not shoot themselves in the foot. Look at Kirk Ferenz at Iowa. That is the team we need and one I could support win or loose.

My question is whether Watson is going away from the run because he doesn't think the O line is good enough to open holes?

They haven't done it consistently this season, but they have consistently received a multitude of false starts.

Agree totally. The only thing consistent about our line right now is that Ricky Henry will get a personal foul or holding penalty, and we'll have at least three false starts. When the only thing consistent about your line is penalties, the wheels are off the cart and it's time to buy a new cart.

I think your last statement pretty much sums it up. When I watch our offense it seems like we run the same 10-15 plays over and over again, which would be fine if they worked...

x2. How often did we throw it to the flats (and THAT really backfired in the first quarter)??? That seems like the go-to play once or twice every five plays. I mean, I'm calling it on the couch so I have an inkling that the defense may be calling it too.... :dunno:facepalm:

I don't remember alot of people calling for Watson's head when we were dropping 40-50 points from the end of 07 through 08, aka 'The Ganz Era'. The trend tells me that it is the QB position that needs the work. Lee looks sharp when he is facing sun-belt competition, but subpar when up against big boy football. I am in favor of letting Green get in there and earn his licks for the next two games. I know it might be taking a step back, but his RS is gone so lets get our money's worth. When OU comes to town, then they can put in whoever they feel confident with.

Watson needs to stay, Cotton your tribe has spoken....

If Watson requested that Bo replace Cotton and Green starts the rest of the year, that would satisfy my bloodlust for at least another season. My issue is I look at the play calling and I can't figure out what the hell kind of team Watson wants to be. He runs when he should pass and passes when he should run. We dink and dive when we're down 21 in the fourth quarter. We can't run out of the gun or under center, it seems. And all the while we have to sit and watch Lee get sacked like a lunch and throw checkdown passes for two yard losses. Where is the coaching? Where is the fire? Where is the strategy?

I'm not an OC, but it doesn't take a specialist to see Watson has little clue what he wants to be doing with his offense. In which case Bo had better tell him. Or find someone who knows.
