Anyone else want the option offense back?

Recommended Posts

Watching the game yesterday made me realize how much I really miss the option. The west coast offense just seems so hit and miss as we have witnessed the past few years for example the Missouri game. Consistency is what wins championships and the West Coast offense cannot be run consistently with an average quarterback and average wide receivers. I miss the games when we just worn down teams physically and our running backs got into a rythym. Bo Pelini does not seem to understand the West Coast offense as well as Watson and it inhibits him from being an effective coach. Pelini should be enrolled in Running the Option 101 by Dr. Tom and we need to restore the tradition starting with Cody Green. Pelini has brought back the Blackshirt tradition now its time for the OPTION!

And who is going to run the option? Zak Lee? hahaha. Green? hahaha. What backs will carry the ball?hahaha. Nebraska has 0 talent to run anything, especially an option. Watson has totally destroyed the offense and BO let him do it. Give up. This team is bad bad bad. Until they get rid of all the coaches and get some better players the Huskers will suck suck suck...

OK...Bo is gone....and the whole staff.... Who do we hire?! I can't wait for this response. And people think I am being over reactionary to say that Gilmore and Watson should take a walk.

Frank Solich would be good...

It doesn't really matter what type of offense you run, as long as you accept it, execute it, and make it your identity.

Our offense is doing none of those three things right now.

Correct. Nebraska Dominated in the 90's with the option, Florida dominated in the 90's with the run and gun, USC dominates with the west coast. All you need is the right players.

All three played great defense. Tech was very physical in their win vs VaTech and their OL is very small at the tackles, less than 270 and they have only one 6'5" 300 lb OL, yet they dominate and score in the redzone. Solich needs to go to Army, he is the perfect HC for a service academy, where his HORRIBLE recruiting will not be a detriment.

In order to execute at a high level you have to have pride in the type of offense you run. Or team and our fans have no pride in the stupid west coast offense Callahan brought to us. WE HAVE PRIDE IN THE OPTION!

by the way what makes people think Cody Green can't run the option?

Is that your professional opinion? And what in God's name do the fans have to do with the offensive success on the field? Stop posting because you're upset and want your voice heard. Everything you're saying is anecdotal at best and cannot be proven.

And there was only 1 poster that I saw that thought CG couldn't run the option.

Well the option basically shrinks the field and therefore it is designed to be effective from inside the 10. The WC spreads the field and therefore it is not as effective when the receivers do not have room to operate. A good running game will cure that though.

Ran the wishbone for a 5A power here in Austin in the 80s and the option is the best GL play ever! Defenses can't just shoot gaps or you will just walk in and if they are not aggressive enough you cab just blast in. The offense takes DISCIPLINE and SERIOUS EXECUTION!

Gee Nebraska......where on EARTH are you ever going to find someone to help implement a power running game? Ever since I joined this forum, I've been saying that Bo has one of the best offensive minds that ever coached a college football team sitting right up there in the AD office and that he would be a fool not to suck every bit of information out of Osborne's brain. We're going to have the defense down pat. It is only going to get better every year. It is time to give the offense that same toughness.

Bring Osborne in to establish a power running game at NU. Is there a better man on the planet to do this? I'm sure that he'd love to show these guys how to do this, but he isn't going to meddle in their affairs unless he's asked. Swallow some humble pie and go talk to the guru.

I would love to see the option offense with Cody Green running it. He is athletic enough to pull it off. Lee couldn't do it, he can't even feel pressure when it is coming now, and imagines it when it isn't there, then can't get out of the way when it is coming head on at him.

Your off your rocker...I don't want to deal with that again. :nutz

Bo is not going anywhere....Osborne is in his corner, and as long as that is true, he is here. Anyone calling for his head at this point is pathetic...nothing more than a band wagon fan.

Green has been constantly compared to Vince Young, and he sure does look the part to me. This guy is made to be a quarterback in an Osborne-style attack. He's fast and a powerful runner that is built to take repeated hits. When he turns downfield, the boy chews up some serious yardage with every step. I'm with you on loving to see Green running that type of offense.
