Coaching carousel update

Posted by: Steve Sipple on November 24, 2009 at 2:44PM CST

Yes, the carousel's spinning. Youngstown State head coach Jon Heacock announced Sunday that he is stepping down from the position after leading the Penguins to a 60-44 record in nine seasons.

A national search is underway, and already Carl Pelini's name has surfaced in speculation along with fellow Youngstown native Mark Stoops, the 42-year-old defensive coordinator at Arizona.

Carl Pelini has said he would like to someday become a head coach. Don't be surprised if Youngstown State calls Nebraska to ask permission to interview the 44-year-old Pelini, the Huskers' defensive coordinator and d-line coach.

Heacock's tenure included a trip to the NCAA Division I-AA Football Championship Subdivision playoff semifinals in 2006.

It would suck but slap in the face is a little strong. When Bo cusses out his coaches do you think he goes easy on Carl because they are family? No its equal opportunity. Carl is actually older than Bo and if the opportunity comes across he will make a decision that best for him as a coach. Please believe his boss and brother would not hold him back like he wouldn’t hold back any other coach that had an opportunity to further their coaching career.

Hopefully we make him disappear during Dec and January until the carousel stops spinning.

Some of these guys are going to get looks and they will not be around for the length that we are used to. If anyone goes, Carl might be the least "impact" coach....... He is awesome, but remember Bo himself is the actual "defensive master mind" and he hired Carl to "help" him. Our defense is SAFE as long as Bo stays.....and I trust Bo to bring in someone who is top notch.
