Barcelona advance to the next round. Barcelona were very lucky. Arsenal's keeper, Wojciech Szczesny, broke his finger stopping a free kick taken by Dani Alves which resulted in his substitution for the shaky Manuel Almunia. Then Robin Van Persie was sent off for allegedly time wasting after kicking the ball after the whistle had blown (I certainly didn't hear any whistle with 100,000 screaming Barcelona fans). Van Persie had received a yellow late in the first half for pushing Alves in the face. This all but assured Arsenal's fate.

The game wouldn't have been nearly as close had Sergio Busquets not headed in an own goal in the 53rd minute. until that point it had been all Barcelona

Barcelona was lucky but they completely dominated that game. Arsenal had 3 or 4 guys out with injuries, but after watching the game, I'm not sure it would have mattered. Technically Barca scored every goal in the game...even Arsenal's goal. I'm not a Barca fan but that was extremely impressive yesterday.

Messi's little flick over the Arsenal's goalie was AMAZING! I thought he wiffed the ball at first just see the replay. Very pretty soccer all around for Barcelona yesterday.

Gerrard May Need Surgery On Groin

The Daily Mirror is reporting Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard may require groin surgery. The 30 year old has been suffering from the injury, which has prevented him from traveling with the team to play in today's Europa League game against Braga. Gerrard picked up the injury in the win at Chelsea in February, but had previously missed a month after damaging a hamstring while on England duty last November.

Kenny Dalglish, in Portugal for the Reds' Europa League tie, revealed that Gerrard will undergo tests before a decision on any treatment is made by the end of the week.

"He has made a lot of progress this term and has really changed. He was a good player before and has now developed into an excellent player."

Manchester United To Offer Chicharito 5 Year Deal

Manchester United are ready to reward Javier Hernandez with a 5 year deal that will tie him to the club until 2016.

Hernandez is expected to receive a considerable hike in his current salary, which is believed to be worth around $40,000 a week.

His current contract was due to be reviewed at the end of the season, although interest from Real Madrid has led United to move faster to protect their investment.
