I think it was a big deal because he kept pretending like he didnt do it. Had he just come out after the game and said "yeah I did the throat slash, I felt like those jackass refs were making terrible calls or non-calls all day long and I had enough of it"

 

boom, end of story. But instead he acted like a jackass trying to deny it. Hell, all Husker fans wanted at that time was for him to STICK UP FOR HIS TEAM, PLAYERS AND FANS. Of course, he blew an easy chance.
