5 minute political quiz

Recommended Posts

The following are your scores. They are based on a gradual range of 0 to 12. For instance, a Conservative/Progressive score of 3 and 0 will both yield a result of social conservative, yet 0 would be an extreme conservative and 3 a moderate conservative

Conservative/Progressive score: 12

You are a social progressive. You generally consider yourself a humanist first. You probably think that religion and patriotism go too far in society. You probably consider yourself to be a citizen of Earth first rather than a citizen of your country.

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 8

You are a Moderate Capitalist. You support an economy that is by and large a free market, but has public programs to help people who can't help themselves or need a little help. Pretty much you believe in the American economy how it currently is.

Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 3

You are libertarian. You think that the government is making way too many unnecessary laws that are taking away our innate rights. You believe that the government's job is primarily to protect people from harming other people, but after that they should mind their own business, and if we give the government too much power in controlling our lives, it can lead to fascism.

Pacifist/Militarist score: 4

You're a Moderate. You think that in very rare occasions, the United States should invade a country in order to make the world better by spreading democracy or ending a tyrants rule. You also think that defense is very important, and we shouldn't lower the defense budget. You think that, while the Iraq War probably was a mistake, that we can make the world a better place by sticking with it and spreading democracy in the middle east.

EDIT: Actually, I do think that we should lower the defense budget. I think it's very important but there is entirely too much waste/weapons systems that are adopted for political rather than military reasons.

Capitalist Purist/Social Capitalist score: 12

You're a Social Capitalist, you think that, left to its own, Capitalism leaves a lot of people behind. You think that Health Care should be free to all, that the minimum wage should be raised, and that the government should provide jobs to all that are capable of having them. You likely hated the Bush tax cuts, and believe that the middle class has gotten poorer, and the rich have gotten richer over the past several years. The far extreme of social capitalism is socialism.

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Hardcore Democrat.

Conservative/Progressive score: 8

You are a social moderate. You think the progressive movement is overall well meaning, but sometimes it goes too far. On issues like abortion and affirmative action, you see the negatives of both extremes on the issue. You probably value religion, but at the same time you think it should still stay separate from the government

Libertarian/Authoritarian score: 7

You're a Moderate. You think that we all have certain inalienable rights that must be protected, but that sometimes laws need to be made to protect the majority's lives or quality of lives. You might think that the 2nd amendment isn't necessary anymore because letting everyone a gun is extremely dangerous to the community. You might also be against illegal drug use or public pornography because of its possible harmful effects to society.

I think the problem with this is there are far too few questions, so the conclusions and scores are much stronger and much more detailed than you'd expect given the quiz.

I like political compass more still (mine), but this was interesting as well.

You're a Pacifist. You are angered that the United States thinks it should dominate the world through its military force. You think that the only time war is necessary is when we are in direct danger of being attacked. You also believe the US spends way too much of its money on defense, as we can practically cut it in half and still easily defend ourselves, and use that money to fix all our economic problems.

I would say its not entirely accurate.

On the con/pro - I do not value religion, and should have no place in government. The rest I agree with.

Cap/soc - I do believe that a pure capitalist set up leads to only the uber wealthy and the uber poor. I think everyone should have healthcare, but that everyone should be paying in. I do hate the Bush tax cuts and the facts are the money gap has gotten absurd in the last couple decades. But the Gov does not 'supply' jobs other than for services the Gov runs (DMV workers for example)

Lib/auth - Yeah I agree with that one.

Pac/Mil - I am certainly not a pacifist. I would have made glass parking lots a decade ago. I think currently we are spending way too much money dealing with BS wars. And we are not the world police man.

Halfway between Stalin and Friedman. Well, that's pretty unspectacular. LINK

I can see the scary political ad against you now . . . ominous music . . . maybe a 9/11 picture . . . "Nuance is halfway between Stalin and Friedman."

(and I guess mine would say that I am a libertarian Ghandi . . . minus the real-world accomplishments, of course.)

Overall, you would most likely fit into the category of Republican MODERATE!!!

The last paragraph is nearly entirely wrong. I think we should not be in the business of "regime change," and I don't think spreading democracy with guns makes any sense. I do think defense is important, but I think that we should lower the defense budget (or, more accurately, we should get more "bang" for our buck). I think the Iraq War was a mistake, but I don't at all think we're doing ourselves any good by staying there. I don't think we're making the world a better place, and I don't think politically or socially we understand the Middle East enough to presume to go in with bombs and bullets to influence it. I think we're best served by keeping out of the Middle East entirely.

I like the Political Compass test zoogies posted more. The last time I took that questionnaire I was one spot down and one spot to the left - nearly perfectly Moderate. I would imagine I would bounce around left or right, Authoritarian or Libertarian, from time to time depending on my mood at the time I took the quiz or the situations about which I read in the news, but for the most part I'm likely going to be right around the middle. It's funny, though, how often I am accused of being a Conservative by the Liberals I talk to, or a Liberal by the Conservatives I talk to.

I find the Moderate stance to be the most logical. Political extremism is foolish, counterproductive, and ignores the reality that the vast majority of men, no matter where he lives or what political party he adheres to or his religious beliefs or his ancestry or any other way you want to define him has the same basic desires: He wants food for his family, a safe home, freedom to make choices about his life, and the ability to better himself. The vast, vast majority of man doesn't want to invade his neighbor's home, or take their goods, or any of these things. I have sat at dinner with people from countries who are my "enemy," and have had conversation and laughter and common understanding.
