Former Husker kicker Alan "Al" Eveland, 58, died Monday at BryanLGH Medical Center East after battling cancer for more than two years. Eveland, from Ames, Neb., was a standout high school running back and kicker and threw the shot and discus for North Bend High School. He was a member of Tom Osborne's first recruiting class at Nebraska. Eveland lettered at NU from 1974-76 and tied the Husker record for most field goals in a season when he connected on 11 of 17 attempts in 1976.
