husker_99
How did Jesus not know this? Link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham excerpt: It is generally recognised by scholars that there is nothing in the Genesis stories that can be related to the history of Canaan of the early 2nd millennium: none of the kings mentioned is known, Abimelech could not have been a Philistine (they did not arrive until centuries later), Ur would not become known as "Ur of the Chaldeans" until the early 1st millennium, and Laban could not have been an Aramean, as the Arameans did not become an identifiable political entity until the 12th century.[ Link to comment
VectorVictor
Just playing devil's advocate here, a lot of this seems to come from translation errors or assumptions made by those translating the texts, and not the texts themselves in their original language. Link to comment

Except groups of people that only lived a later time frame but appear earlier isn't a translation error. Plus names of cities that didn't exist at the time but did. But since Jesus is directly from the line of Abraham he can't be since according to modern scholars never existed from a biological point of view. Link to comment
NUance
Oh, Abraham existed all right. His friends called him Abram. Link to comment
Husker_x
From my reading of archaeology and the composition of the Old Testament books (or the Pentateuch and the Histories, anyway), not much of anything happened as described. Jewish/Israeli archaeologists have done a lot to dispense with Abraham, Moses, Joshua, David, Solomon, etc. as the glorious historical figures that are described in the bible. Many a hole to be found in those stories. Link to comment

But since Jesus is directly from the line of Abraham he can't be since according to modern scholars never existed from a biological point of view. It could be if that's all the translator knew. Remember, most of the work was done by the Catholic Church--they aren't exactly the most infallible institution out there. Plus, a lot of these stories and parables were passed down orally--I wonder how much changed or how many generations passed before they were originally transcribed. Mind you, I'm not saying you're wrong--far from. Just that there's a lot we don't know and can be chalked up as lost to the passage of time. For all we know, Abraham could had been a successful used Camel salesman that was glorified as part of an extensive ad campaign. The thing that's interesting though is that you have three related religions (Islam, Judaism, and Christianity) from the region that all have very similar accounts of that timeframe. Either there may be *some* truth to what is being conveyed (but the specifics are fuzzy), or this is one hell of an epic troll that the time-traveling future has perpetrated. Link to comment
johnnyrodgers20
God said he made Adam and Eve he never said he stopped making humans after that. Obviously if we can figure out that Eve was the only woman then God could also. He probably made others to populate the world and so there wouldn't be one woman having sex with her sons!! I thought the Christian teaching was that everyone descended from Adam and Eve? You seem to be saying otherwise. 1 Link to comment
