Reports: Multiple people wounded in OKC shooting after Thunder eliminate Lakers

By Ben Golliver | NBA Blogger Update Posted (Tuesday, 9:08 a.m.)

A triumphant night in Oklahoma City took a horrible turn late on Monday.

In the immediate aftermath of the Thunder's Game 5 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night, multiple reports indicated that multiple people were shot by gunfire about a half-mile east of Chesapeake Energy Arena in a popular area of the city known as "Bricktown."

Multiple reports early Tuesday morning indicated, citing police sources, that there were eight victims of the gunfire, including one in "critical" condition and seven others in "non-life threatening" condition. Both The Oklahoman and News9.com reported these details.

The Associated Press confirms Tuesday that the victim total was eight with seven gunshot victims and a pregnant woman who was hospitalized after being "assaulted" during the incident. The AP confirms one victim is in "critical" condition while listing the other six gunshot victims and the pregnant woman in "good" condition.

I'm going to chalk this one up to WTF. I mean really. Shooting people? Over a basketball game? That you won? WTF?

The shooting itself wasn't because of the basketball game. That area can get a bit sketchy late at night according to the locals. Because of this, now, they have decided to shut down the Thunder Alley watch party outside of Chesapeake Energy Arena that has become so popular which is sad because it had become a cool new thing to showcase OKC's love of the Thunder and just that night had gotten major airtime on TNT.

And Holy Crap the uproar around here is unreal. I have mixed feelings about the watch party being shut down

The world has always been a lot off kelter. The combination of drunk sports fans with strong loyalities in a large crowd can be deadly. All it takes is one drunk fool, packing heat, with his feelings hurt, along with some loud mouth to push him over the edge. Many people can get hurt in a short time.
