 What's the purpose of that?

This is Nebraska marketing Nebraska.... Welcome to the 21st century gentlemen.... This is smart, futuristic, and innovative. I love what Nebraska is doing with the uniforms (for one game), the recruiting weekend, the marketing. In my opinion they are handling this all very well, and if we win it could become a very benefiicial weekend for the football team....

I wonder if something can be smart, futuristic, innovative, and gay all at the same time.

I get it...kinda...I just don't like it on the field. Hang a banner, or use it on the scoreboards. I'm guessing it is mainly for the TV audience since most of the stadium still refuses to use anything more advanced than a transistor AM radio. I've got a twitter account, but I rarely use it. Most of the things I'm interested in that I've followed I'm either watching or will hear about on TV or the internet anyway, so I don't find it as interesting as some, I guess. Maybe they should also put the official facebook site on the field as well. I don't know. It's just another gimmick, but if it works for recruiting, then I guess do it.

Osborne retired 15 minutes after this idea was placed on his desk.

Funny you mention that. My business partner handled the social media accounts for the athletic department until a few months back. Here is a story he posted on his facebook timeline yesterday.

I'll never forget my favorite TO moment from working in the athletic department

*TO walks by my cube*

TO:"You are always on facebook whenever I walk by you"

Me:"That's my job. I'm the social media director"

TO:"Oh okay"

*TO walks away*

Oh the memories.....

I don't think this falls under the same "gimmmick" category as Oregon's uniforms and Boise's blue field... It's just a simple way to both get people involved with the program on social media (which is HUGE these days) and let a national audience know that we aren't just some old lumbering program of yesteryear. Remember that Nebraska grew to prominence by being innovators with the weight training program and so forth. Nothing wrong with keeping up with the times.

One thing I suggest is following Twitter during the Nebraska games. It is fun/informative to follow the Journal Star, World-Herald, and other Nebraska media during the games. Interesting, and sometimes different perspective....

Exactly, it is so important to stay on the cutting edge.

I've really given up caring what the media thinks of NU. You win and the media cares. You don't win, they don't care. Simple as that. But yeah, it is important as to what kids think, so you do have to win because kids now follow the media in all kinds of forums because they pay attention to them all.

I still don't like it on the field, but if it helps in bringing recruits in, then so be it.
