The problem with playing favorites

Recommended Posts

We still scored 38 points. We're moving in the right direction. I believe that. But our oline depth was deeply hurt when Cally was fired. Usually new coaches' have their most difficult years in their 4th and 5th seasons because their veterans are their 1st recruiting classes. Perfect example, Urban Meyer at Florida, and he tucked tail and ran. We have to stick with Bo. These nights are tough to handle.

There are over 25 offensive linemen...and you're telling me we can't find at least five decent ones? C'mon man.

Lets think about something for a second. All the great lineman that have come through this program and Tyler Moore was the 1st true freshman to ever start up there (and he started due to a huge lack of mature depth, emphasis on mature). What does that mean? That o-line is a muturity required position. It always has been. Freshman Oline freaks are very few across the country. What happened when Callahan was fired was we lost a lot of beastly Olineman. Bo has had to find that niche what wasnt there his first couple recruiting classes, so we're basically stuck with what we have now, and theyre doing their best, and that's pretty good considering it's a bunch of walk-ons. So yes, out of 25 lineman, we do have 5 decent ones, probably more. Saying we dont is overreaction.

We don't have a good left tackle. Too slow of footwork. The right tackle isn't much better. The problem is for some reason the o-linemen Bo DID recruit were guards....not tackles. The two positions are WAAAAAAAY different. Hopefully Bo has learned and his very young staff have learned this. It probably doesn't help that the three or four or however many coaches are coaching the o-line, are not very good coaches.

Is there anyway Ron Brown can coach all of the positions?

is that you have a dog house. When you have a dog house, you have to put players in it. When you put players in it, sometimes you put good players in it. When you put good players in the doghouse, they leave. When good players leave, the leave holes at their positions. When there are holes at positions, Taylor martinez fumbles from blindside hits two games in a row.

Tyler Moore.

If Tyler had stuck it out he would be starting, and our O-line would be better. He would be on track to become an All-Big 10 player, and likely go on to an NFL career. But he quit. Because he's a quitter. And I'm hard pressed to think of anyone who quit the Huskers and went on to great success. So f#*k Tyler Moore. The quitter.

too funny... what says you about chase rome?

accountability you're cracking me up on these threads...what direction are you talking about? how have we improved in the past 3 years? i'd love to know...please enlighten me. taylor martinez can throw the ball now...sometimes. we have faster receivers and a deeper depth at running back...but lets at the most important factor...wins and losses. Say what you want but at the end of the day...that's what you have to look at. Also, how many big games against top-rated teams have we won? How many BCS bowls have we been in? Wake up, Accountability...Nebraska Football is pretty mediocre right now and has been for too long.

It's one thing to storm out of a practice and have a cooling down period. But it's quite another thing to storm out of a practice, move to a different city, and enroll in a new college--that is, to become a quitter. You may have noticed that Chase Rome played last night. So he's not a quitter, right?

Just so you know, I was a huge fan of Tyler Moore. Before he quit. He was the one guy out of his recruiting class that I thought would go the farthest. Now though, not so much. Being a quitter is tough to quit.

That's a very good point. A tough, tough pill to swallow but it does give some desperately needed hope.

Yeah, it hurts badly.....I know.

But we're a long, long ways away from 2004 & 2007. I think we're just gonna have to hang tough.

Yeah youre right. Our offense is horrible. Has made no improvement whatsoever in Bo's time here. No reason at all to think the defense could do the same. We scored 38 points. Gave them 14 without our D even on the field (int and punt return) and turned it over another time basically at the goal line on a bad throw. Yes, we pretty much can say we gave this game away, again. As far as mediocre, sure it is. And in all reality it's probably going to be like this for a very long time. We have far more challenges to compete that any other place in the country because we have 0 in-state talent whatsoever. It's just the way it is.
