Popular Post Flood
It is not meant as a metaphor or analogy. A very dear member of my family died last week. Her funeral was today. It was a somber, but celebratory, occasion, with all of her friends and family. It was beautiful, and she would have approved. After, I came home to watch the Husker game. Before the funeral ended, though, I received a phone call from one of my closest friends. Who happens to be dying from ovarian cancer. She has made it, thus far, twelve months longer than she was expected to. Good news, right? Her husband, who married her after she fell ill (and knew what was ahead) demanded a divorce. Turns out, we think, that he was screwing her best friend. And had only wanted to be a martyr and collect honor and glory after she died. But she just didn't die soon enough to suit his tastes. My point, you ask? There ARE a lot of very important things in our lives. Husker football ranks up there, but does not, should not, and can not, EVER, come close to the things that really matter. Many older fans already know this, so it is mostly for you younger folks. This loss is annoying, devastating, and horrible. But, there are more important things. I believe, with some tweaking, NU will be back on top. With most or all of our current staff. We had a lot of kids--yes, they are kids--who had a bad night. It happens. You think it's unpleasant for us? I can only imagine how they felt in the locker room tonight. All the tools are in place for next year to be spectacular. Many of us seasoned veterans took this year with a grain of salt. I certainly did, and it was fun to imagine, to dream. But the team, and coaches, already have done more this year than I thought possible. Patience. Bo and co need another 2-3 years before we can make a decision, as fans, about where we are. Anxious fans nearly killed Texas A&M, and we have also been down that road with BC. Let's not go there just yet. There is plenty of time in the next couple years to melt down properly, if we need to. Do not let us turn on a coach who just brought us at least 10 wins this season. That is all meant with utmost respect. Best wishes, Flood 10 Quote Link to comment
It'sNotAFakeID
I'm loving this sentiment that is being echoed throughout the esteemed members (excluding myself) of this board. Sorry about your loss, Flood. Quote Link to comment
Landlord
Good post Flood - I'm sorry to hear about all the turmoil going on around you right now. Seems to be a very bleak day in general for a lot of people. Even the mist thinks so. I can't agree more with your thoughts here. I appreciate you saying so. Crazy that in the course of a few months the majority opinion can be that we'll go 7-5, be shocked that we significantly overachieved and then go into rage mode when we don't play at elite status when nobody thought we could in the first place. NUpolo8
I'm glad you have perspective. That is important. It's also important to acknowledge that a team that drops several million dollars a year on being an elite football team got 70 points hung on it tonight. This is a football board. Not a perspective board. 2 Quote Link to comment

Klondike Cat
You're absolutely right that there are things way, way more important than football or any sport. The holidays are coming up. Love your families with all your heart, folks! I'm very sorry for your loss. Quote Link to comment

Not a perspective board. Truth hurts. you compare the loss of a college football game to the loss and near loss of close relatives, and that person showing the courage to publicly discuss that as an example that there needs to be some perspective. Your excuse for that comparison is "it's a football board, heh". Whatever. 2 Quote Link to comment
It'sNotAFakeID
So the solution to everything is that we should throw money at it? Tell that to cancer patients. Tell that to people who have lost family members overseas. Tell that to people who have family members overseas. Tell that to the impoverished. Tell that to the third world. Tell that to anyone who has lost a friend. Tell that to anyone who has failed a test. Tell that to anyone who has lost a pet. This isn't a perspective board? I thought opinions on football are all about perspective. In fact, your idea of throwing more money at the problem is a perspective. Hate to break it to you, pal, but this is a football board. Take that sh*t somewhere else. 2 Quote Link to comment
