Pardon me sir, but you're a tool if you think there is nothing wrong with Wiscy running up the score and that anyone who doesn't agree with you is a whiner and not a real sports fan.

I'll agree with you on the "not a real sports fan" thing. My biggest sports-related pet peeve is people throwing around the "you're not a real fan if..." line like they somehow have the only attitude you can have if you want to be a sports fan.

That said, I have no problem with Wisconsin "running up the score" on us. Like JJ said, we couldn't stop them. What do you want them to do, start running backwards? Just give the ball to Nebraska and let them close the gap? Wisconsin never ran a single pass play in the 2nd half. They got points off of two things: turnovers, and our inability to stop the run.

I didn't see any Husker fans complaining about Bo "running up the score" when we beat Idaho State 73-7 and still had all our starters in there long after the game was over. How is what Wisconsin did to us any different?

Go back and look at some of my posts, hell I even started a thread about Bo needing to put backups in.

But talking actual facts, with Rex hurt Abdullah was our de facto starter (even though Rex did get some carries. Our last 2 scores in the 3rd and 4th came from Heard and Cross (the first TD we had in the 3rd was on a punt return from Abdullah, which at this point in the season I doubt anyone argues that he didn't need practice catching punts), we had Kellogg in as QB there permanently in the 3rd but didn't we take Martinez out in the 1st or 2nd to put Kellogg in until he started throwing interceptions and fumbling handoffs?

Yes, we beat a team 73-7, but the way Wiscy went about it was completely different. I don't think it's too much to point out that they left Ball in the game until their last possesion.

Didn't a poster (a Badge fan I believe) say that Ball played just seven snaps in the second half, three of which came in the fourth quarter? I really don't think if they wanted to run it up, Ball would have been out.

When we can't stop a simple dive play, whether there is motion or not, it's not the offense running it up, it's the defense has quit playing. Likes others have said earlier, you can't expect them to quit playing. Similar to basketball, you can't tell kids to purposefully miss shots. Well, when a running back sees a gaping hole, he's going to run through it, and run as far as he can (and againsnt our defense, that meant to the endzone). Sorry, that final score is on US, not Wisconsin.

I'm not focusing on the actual final score, but the fact that Ball was in the game until the last 5 minutes. I understand completely that if our defense could have stepped up even the slightest it wouldn't have been as embarrassing. But the final score isn't what I actually care about.

Wiscy left their starters in until their last possession, with 5 minutes left in the game. I think that is classless.

Hasn't this been how Bo has been in the (few) games where we had a sizable and comfortable lead?

I do understand where you're coming from, it just doesn't really bother me much, maybe because all I could see was how bad we were playing.

Oh boo hoo, Wiscy didn't run up the score on us. That 70 points is our teams fault, not theirs. If you don't want the other team to score then you need to stop them. Period. A defense has to show up and play to the final whistle. Ours did neither. You cannot fault Wiscy for running plays that worked. The only thing they could've done that wouldn't have gashed our pathetic defense was take a knee. You're a whiner and not much of a sports fan if you want the opposing team to self limit their output.

I'm a whiner for calling out a team that has a 35-10 lead at the end of the first half calling a timeout with 20 secs on the clock on their own 40 yard line?

I'm a whiner or calling out a team that left their star running back and Heisman candidate in the game until their last possession?

I'm not a real sports fan because I like teams to practice good sportsmanship?

I was at the game, I stayed until they started setting up the stage to hand out the trophy and watched that whole train wreck. I congratulated every Wisconsin fan I saw.

Maybe to be a real sports fan I need to hate my team, constantly call for my coach to be fired, and celebrate when teams run up the score on my team.

Yes, I meant you were a whiner. When your team (and mine) are totally incapable of stopping the simplest and same offensive plays and then you complain about the other team doing barely more than taking a knee, that makes you a whiner. The "not a real sports fan" comment was thrown in because I don't believe most people who watch a football game expect the other team to self limit their own scoring. That is the job of the opposing defense. It wouldn't be much of a sporting contest if it were only up to one team to determine how much they wanted to score. Hey, I'm all for good sportsmanship and dialing back the playbook and taking a knee when time is about to expire but I simply did not perceive that Wiscy was going out of their way to run it up. What I saw was our team totally unable to stop virtually anything they did. You can call me a tool if you want but it has nothing to do with whether or not you agree with me. It has everything to do with you whining about Wiscy simply continuing to play what I would call an extremely limited brand of football. If they would've started running play action and throwing the ball deep, or reverses, or some other exotics to try to catch us off guard, I would agree with you. But, they simply lined up and ran the ball. It's our fault for not stopping them, not theirs for continuing to play the game.

And as a matter of clarification; I have not called for our coach to be fired once let alone constantly, I don't hate my team although I do hate how they play sometimes, I was not celebrating this defeat in the least, and I do not feel Wiscy ran up the score. Me thinks you got me confused with some other posters but, please feel free to refer to me as "tool" or any other names you wish to call because as long as you keep up the complaining about wiscy running up the score, I will call you whiner. :thumbs

My God I hate the Political Correctness that goes on this board. We might as well go out there and accept our 16th place ribbon with the way some of you are reacting.

If they run up the score, oh well, we deserve it. We aren't playing in the little leagues. These are young ADULTS in college hopefully on their way to the NFL. If they don't want the score to be ran up, then they need to man up and stop it.
