NSA asked Verizon for records of all calls in the U.S.

I have mixed feelings about this.

 

a) if the government is doing something they shouldn't be doing, someone who blows the whistle should not be punished.

 

b) If you have security clearance to stuff that involves national security, the government should be able to trust you that you will keep it secret.

 

Not sure how to balance those two.

I would think that the same way that military members are taught to follow all orders unless an order is in direct violation of law/code, Geneva convention, etc etc. Any employee should be sheltered for releasing information that they feel is against the law/ constitution. But indiscriminate release, or releasing to foreign governments, enemies of the state, etc should be prosecuted and stand trial in front of a jury of their peers.

 

Edited: didn't like the way "no personal thought process" sounded.
