Probably about what you thought they were when you opened this thread. While our defense has been opportunistic with takeaways, we still have a long way to go in just about every other area.

Yes, our defense is not great, but take these rankings with a grain of salt.

We have faced teams with pretty good Total Offense Rankings, and they aren't just from facing us: UCLA (4th), Wyoming (16th), Illinois (40th).

Michigan is ranked 13th in Total Defense and 2nd in the Big Ten.

They have had the opportunity to face the offenses of Notre Dame (86th), Minnesota (106th), Central Michigan (109th), Akron (112th), and UCONN (119th out of 123!).

See that's a good point. Those teams do have good offenses that could give problems to most teams. A question though; Are those rankings prior to playing us? Or do those rankings include playing us?

Those rankings do include playing us. We did hold UCLA and Illinois well below their season averages, 57 and 85 yards respectively. Wyoming, not so much.
