Ryker Fyfe = Colin Kaepernick

Recommended Posts

guess well see... tommy starts. hopefully has improved to the point of earning everyones approval since you have to be next to perfect to please this state.. if not I think you see an Armstrong Stanton mix up, like Armstrong kellog last year. except Stantons gonna be lightyears better than kellog. until one has proven themselves to be the main man...but never wave out fyfe. too close to call right now. got 5 months for improvement...

And Armstrong should be light years better than he was last year. Doesn't sound so bad.

Let me ask this because I haven't watched the spring game.

What did he do so bad other than the one interception?

Two wide open receivers miss fired. Not even close, Bell and another guy. And he's lucky one or two more picks especially McMullen (DE-LB) had miss leaped.

OK...I watched the game last night. The one pass where it appeared he "miss fired" on Kenny Bell, Bell and the TE clearly were taking immediately after the play acting like one of them was mixed up. The announcers even talked about how they had miscommunication on routes. I'm not willing to blame that one on TA. I'm not sure what other one you are talking about but I was falling asleep in the second half.

Basically I believe that he presses too much, and we need a guy that can intelligently run this offense, and not put our teams into positions where we need a miracle Hail Mary. Turnovers are this teams biggest problem, and with the way Fyfe threw the ball, he wasn't throwing into coverage like TA4. Just understand that we need more of a game manager at QB honestly having Abdullah back there. Just pound the ball, and Fyfe can make the simple, accurate throws and limit turnovers, and I bet we win more games.

Wait a minute, you saw a guy make a few throws in the spring game, and now you would bet that he would win more games than the guy who came off the bench to go 7-1 against live competition?

I'm just sick of all the turnovers, and I haven't seen proof that TA is going to limit them. I'm sure he will start, but he's going to have to play at a higher level if he wants to be successful.

We all are. And no one will disagree he needs to elevate his game. He was thrown into the fire. Probably didn't think he'd play 50 snaps going into the season. Give him a full year of prep. It does scare me that TA seems to be cut from the same mold as Taylor in regards to pressing the issue. He wants to be the man. I'm one of those that would love to see what Beck and these offensive weapons we have could do with someone that manages the game, distributes the ball and limits mistakes. I'm certainly far from writing Armstrong off though. He could be that guy. I just wonder what is being coached into him that makes him think he has to do everything. (or why we continue to get that impression of our QBs)

I think alot of it has to do with the kind of guys we have signed at QB. Guys who werent really big names coming out of HS, and want to prove those doubters wrong and make the instate schools who didnt offer realize they messed up. We have/had guys lately who are just flat out competitors at the QB position. So much so that they become reckless at times. That is what I feel Beck needs to teach these kids, that alot of the time making the easy play that gains 4-7 yards is better than throwing the ball deep into tight coverage on 3rd down. It's 90% on Beck to get these guys to understand that imo. You really cant blame a guy for wanting to make a play.

A little perspective on having the next guy ready at QB:

Texas A&M is down to 2 scholarship QBs. One comes this summer. Another just got arrested for public drunkenness.

A coaching change, then having a freshman Heisman winner coming back probably didn't help. Matt Davis was a highly ranked recruit that quickly transferred when he saw Manziel would be he man for the foreseeable future. They've recruited well. It's the uncertainty at the position that has cost them, while we've had pretty much 100% certainty for the last few years.

why only have one. not that northwestern was some powerhouse by any means but they could tear some stuff up with that dual qb threat. hell if there all 3 so close which right now seems to be the case but at the same time to me its like each one has there certain abiltily that the others don't have. tommy with the elusive running. Stanton just throws a hell of a ball, and ryker, well he did it all on sat it seemed. but if you can keep opponents constantly on their heels with a multiple qb .. why not. just a thought, course you got the issue of the offense constantly adjusting though too...

The old saying goes "If you have more than one quarterback you have none."

This isnt always true as I remember LSU doing it quite well a couple years ago. Problem is these guys get better with experience. The less they play the less experience they gain. So if they all three split time equally, if one isnt progressing they likely all are struggling to progress.

Yeah...having two quarterbacks has a very, very, very low success rate.

Again, Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida were replacing Heisman finalists. We're not. (which is why I think we'll be fine). Anyone overly worried at this point is placing way too much value in the role Martinez played.

Oklahoma had a rough time replacing Landry Jones (not a Heisman finalist).

West Virginia had a rough time replacing Pat White (not a Heisman finalist).

Michigan after Denard Robinson.

Michigan State after Kirk Cousins.

Virginia Tech after Tyrod Taylor.

Houston after Case Keenum.

Kansas after Todd Reesing.

idk

good morning

So was that struggle last year or are you saying you're expecting a struggle?

Fixed it for you.

Conner Cook played outstanding at the end of last year. He was 2nd Team All Big Ten voted by the Coaches.

What??? They have had uncertainty at the position? They had a heisman winner and then I'm pretty sure it was certain he was going to be the starter last year.

Andrew Maxwell says, "Dude, seriously, you forgot about an entire year that I played as the starter? That is very rude of you and also representative of your poor memory. I am offended."

It didn't seem to hurt them signing two four-star QBs last year - about two months after Johnny got his Heisman. And Davis couldn't beat out a two-star recruit at his new JUCO so I'm not sure that was the only reason.
