Abdullah the Butcher
Not sure if burger flippers are worth $9 an hour but I'd vote for it. http://www.betterwagesnebraska.com/nelpreport The study - Raising Nebraskans Minimum Wage: The Economic Benefits and Demographic Impact of Increasing Nebraskas Minimum Wage to $9.00 Per Hour showed that raising Nebraskas minimum wage to $9.00 per hour would generate more than $73.9 million in new economic activity and support the creation of over 400 new full-time jobs as businesses expand to meet increased consumer demand. Mavric
Am I missing it or is that a totally one-sided analysis? That is, did they focus totally on where the money would go any ignore where it would come from? Link to comment
Abdullah the Butcher
Your burgers would cost a few more cents. Link to comment
Micheal
So I guess I miss how increased prices are going to come along with increased demand...and more jobs. Wouldn't people buy less with prices going up???? Link to comment
Abdullah the Butcher
Not if wages gained exceed price increases. Link to comment
Scratchtown
Basically fast food (which is already expensive) would get more expensive. Couple that with the horrible pitfalls nutritionally. Maybe Americans will quite buying crappy food. Link to comment
Mavric
Your burgers would cost a few more cents. And who is paying that few more cents? And what does that do to the money they have to spend other places? Link to comment
StPaulHusker
So are the people who work at this fast food place making at or over $9/hr going to get a raise in pay as well? Link to comment
NUance
The thing is, raising the minimum wage affects all the non-wage entry level jobs too. Baby sitting, lawn mowing, carpenter's helpers, etc. All those people will get a bump thanks to market forces. But then the evil, unstoppable power of inflation will wash away the gains realized by the minimum wage earners, putting them right back where they were to begin with. So let's just jump ahead and take the free market out of the equation. We could go straight to communism and pay everyone a level wage regardless of merit. That way we can eliminate the unfair disparity between the poor burger-flipper kid that that greedy ophthalmologic surgeon. /sarcasm Link to comment

The study did say the majority of those getting a raise were directly because of the minimum going up but there were some that would get a bump above that to maintain a relationship. Link to comment
