Nebraska 59, Oklahoma St. 57

 

STILLWATER, Okla. — During his final time out, Nebraska coach Barry Collier reminded his team to think about a quick rebound, and his advice paid off.

 

Jamel White put back a missed 3-pointer by Wes Wilkinson with 1.1 seconds left to lift Nebraska to a 59-57 win against Oklahoma State on Tuesday night.

 

With the game tied 57-57, Nebraska set up the final play when guard Charles Richardson called a timeout with 5.9 seconds remaining. The plan was to get Wilkinson the ball, but Collier said he reminded his players to be ready for a put back.

 

"I thought Wes made a great catch and tried to get balanced to shoot the ball," Collier said. "We told the other four that even if it went as planned, they would have time to go rebound a miss."

 

The Cornhuskers (14-6, 4-3 Big 12) scored the final six points to rally from a 57-53 deficit in the final 1:41. Wilkinson, who led Nebraska with 19 points, hit two free throws and Jason Dourisseau tied the game on a dunk with 58 seconds left.

 

"When we were down six points late in the game, we didn't lose our heads and turn the ball over a lot," Wilkinson said. "We kept on battling defensively and took care of business.

 

After committing the turnover that set up Dourisseau's dunk, JamesOn Curry missed a 3-pointer that would have put Oklahoma State (12-9, 2-5) back in the lead with 35 seconds left.

 

Oklahoma State assistant coach Jimmy Williams lamented the Cowboys mental mistakes late in the game.

 

"Our decision-making has not been what it should be," he said. "We have to take care of the basketball, which we have not done down the stretch. We had a big turnover with the lead that I thought had a big impact on the game."

 

Aleks Maric had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Nebraska, and White scored 10.

 

Curry finished with 22 points, including six 3-pointers, and Mario Boggan had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Oklahoma State before fouling out with 1:20 left. The Cowboys have lost four games in a row for the fist time since the 1991-92 season.

 

Boggan said defensive lapses cost the Cowboys.

 

"We have to learn to strap up and play defense," he said. "If we do that and rebound we will start winning."

 

Neither team led by more than four points in the second half until Oklahoma State pulled ahead 55-49 after back-to-back baskets by Boggan and a 3-pointer by Curry.

 

The Cowboys scored seven straight points to take a 23-16 lead on Torre Johnson's dunk with 8:39 to play in the first half, but Nebraska rallied back with a 15-3 run capped by consecutive 3-pointers by Charles Richardson Jr. and White for a 31-26 lead.

 

Nebraska led 31-30 at halftime.

Im also a husker fan in oklahoma

 

There are quite a few of us. Got to have thick skin to be a Husker fan round here. Where you from?

i was born in Hastings, Neb didnt live there long though, my family moved to the South East part of Oklahoma were they originally lived way back,

 

i don't remember much about Nebraska but i am a hudge Husker fan, don't know if its because i was born there or what but i always enjoy watching them play.
