knapplc
Eichorst at the mic. He has high standards & expectations. Wants to compete for Big Ten & National championships. But must compete with class & integrity or it's meaningless. Represent us the Nebraska Way. Mike Riley is a tremendous football coach. A man of integrity and character. Good husband and father. Played for Bear Bryant at Alabama. Has a four-decade career. His teams play sound, physical football. Mike is held in high regard around the country for his football intelligence. Great recruiter, great motivator. Staff will compliment his abilities. Mike has had many opportunities to leave Corvallis but chose to stay in his hometown. It took a special place and special fit for him to move, and we are excited he has found it at Nebraska. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
Mike Riley at the mic. Arrives to round of applause from the press. Bald as a cue ball. Excited to be here, excited to coach this team. Yadda yadda yadda. Excited to be a part of the greatest fan base in college football. Appreciates the fact that he's standing here now. Likes coaching football. Believes it's part of his job to help these men make good choices in their lives. Quote Link to comment

alexhortdog95
We got Mr. Rogers as a football coach. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
No scripted statement from Riley. Speaking off the cuff. Always thought he'd be a football coach. His father was a coach and he spent a lot of time in the locker room. He got a lot more from Oregon State than they got from him. Very appreciative of his time there. We are in this together to build young men and win championships. And those two things don't have to be exclusive each other. Quote Link to comment

knapplc
Going to be hiring a staff. Always looks at it as he has all these guys. It's his job to make sure he puts experts & good people around them. He likes the stability of having his guys around him for a while. Also going to look around for other additions to his staff. Won't be coaching in the bowl game, will have fun being a fan. They will be begin the recruiting process for the new staff this afternoon. Quote Link to comment

knapplc
Here comes the press. Ross Jernstrom starts off. Could have retired at 61 & could have retired at Oregon State. Why come to Nebraska? He's never talked to his wife about retiring. This is the right place at the right time. Always thought OSU would be his last job. Knowledge of Nebraska prior to taking the job. Everybody knows the Nebraska brand nationally. He was a freshman on the Alabama team that Johnny Rodgers ran all over in 1971. He's always kept one of Osborne's books on his bookshelf and uses it to draw quotes from for his daily meetings. Great respect for the work Bo did here. Understands this business and knows what it's about. Hiring was a quick process. It's always hard in the profession. Initial contact with Shawn was Monday, short time between then and today. There's a trust that's important. Quote Link to comment
