huskersrule95
pathetic batting... pathetic coaching.. Coaching can only do so much. You can only do so much. Up to the players to make plays Like mentioned, the coach is responsible for everything! If players are not executing, that is coaching, if pitchers are not pitching.. that is coaching! Players are still responsible too if not executing on what they are taught. Not like coaches can go out there and hit or pitch for players. I'm not saying coaches aren't responsible, I'm saying players are as well. Don't blame coaching for everything. 1 Quote Link to comment
huskerfan2000
it was mentioned in another thread that the talent level isn't that much different in the 64 teams that made the regionals.. That was made VERY clear to be false already! The pitching by some teams, the hitting by other teams.. just far away better than NU! Quote Link to comment
Pasadena Husker
during and after ryan boldt's freshmen year, did anyone else think he was going to dominate the big ten and be an all-american (and not the smarty pants kind)? he's had a really good career at nebraska, but i was certain he was going to do a lot more when he was here. I really think he needs to come back next year. His defense is there but his offense isn't consistent. you might be right, but i checked Baseball america's draft board yesterday and they have him as the 73rd pick. i don't think there is any way he stays. The coach! if you are recruiting players that are mentally weak, or who are not coachable, then you have a recruiting problem Quote Link to comment

If a guy has walked 6 batters through 2 innings, then an inning like the 3rd should not happen (swinging away early and often, quick 1-2-3 inning). That was not a good example of coaching that inning. 1 Quote Link to comment

huskerfan2000
Where the hell is the small ball? You don't have to be a slugger to put down the bunt.. NU MUST use the bunt way more than they are! Quote Link to comment
Bowfin
Very true.. but who recruited those players? The coach! if you are recruiting players that are mentally weak, or who are not coachable, then you have a recruiting problem In the end, the coaches must take responsibility for the team and its performance...same as the players. Hitting a slump is not indicative of players being mentally weak or uncoachable. I think you are showing a flair for the dramatic. 2 Quote Link to comment

You have to get hits at some point and the players have been really bad at hitting anything the last 4 games. Quote Link to comment

EDIT: it is pretty evident just from our at the plate decision making! Quote Link to comment

Swinging at the first pitch is still not prudent early in the game when he's walked 6 batters already and not proven he can get ahead of a batter. If he had thrown first pitch strikes, that's one thing, but to hand him an 0-1 by chasing pitches out of the zone, like NU did, well  But 2 hits in the 4th is good, hopefully this pitcher finally implodes soon, like they did yesterday against Clemson. I agree we should be taking pitches early in count and forcing to throw strikes since they haven't shown they can consistently. I think Clemson had something crazy like 17 walks yesterday as well as 14 hits. No reason we can't get runners on base and some runs against this team Quote Link to comment
