Bookmakers estimated $15 million to $20 million was bet statewide on the game in Nevada. The bulk of the money was on the underdog Tigers, who scored a touchdown with one second left in the fourth quarter to upend Alabama 35-31. "It was as bad as a result as humanly possible," William Hill director of trading Nick Bogdanovich, a veteran Las Vegas bookmaker, told ESPN on Tuesday morning. Bill Sattler, director of specialty games for Caesars Entertainment, said Clemson winning in a high-scoring game produced "the worst loss in any college football game I can remember." After watching hits on Watson and Williams all game, I again have no idea what Targeting is or why it is even in the rule book. '05 Texas vs. USC is still my number one. Such an incredible game and it had so much more ridiculousness associated with it. Anybody remember Will Ferrell trolling Matthew McConaughey with two Heisman trophies and pretending they were speakers on his shoulders? This is the second best in my life time though, no question. Maybe I am biased but I don't understand the love of UT-USC over other great finals. You had USC with dumb play turnover, a stupid call by Carroll on 4th down and one good drive at the end by VY. Yes they were both great teams with a lot of NFL stars on it like Matt Leinert and Limas Sweed. OSU-Miami was the best game I have watched. Tons of NFL, Miami dynansty/win streak, a huge underdog in OSU who came from behind, crushing defensive hits from both teams all game, a premature end of game celebration, the flag and double overtime. As an OSU fan I can't explain the emotions of dominating the second half, looking like a victory, having Miami come back, Miami win, the flag, Miami scoring a TD in OT 1 and then OSU pulling it out in OT 2. One of the first hits on Williams (he was already down and a second defender dove into his head), that Watson hit above (Foster), and the Watson hit in the second half when he helicoptered (again Foster launched with his crown). I think a huge part of it has to do with the sexiness of the matchup, for lack of a better phrase. OSU-Miami, despite both of their histories and successes, is no USC-Texas. It'd be like comparing Maserati to Ferrari - people will take a Maserati but most would ditch it for the Ferrari if they could. Plus, I really think you're undervaluing that 2005 game. USC's 34-game win streak/dynasty and Texas' 19-game win streak (a combined record for two teams playing each other at 53 games) Two Heisman Trophy winners and a Heisman finalist (the first time ever that two Heisman winners played in the same backfield) The first time two teams were 1st and 2nd in every iteration of the BCS standings ESPN analysts dubbing USC the second-greatest team ever prior to the game Five lead changes That's why Texas-USC usually gets the nod. Nobody would confuse either of those 2003 teams as being one of the greatest teams of all time. The actual '03 game may have had more drama, but Texas-USC had so much more if you look at the entire package. And the game itself was actually pretty damn good. Quote Link to comment
