NM11046
So just found out that a trainer at my gym was supposedly a husker running back. No idea on year (several of us disagree on his age - I think he's likely in his 40's others think he's in his 50's). He's from New Hampshire (? for sure New England - NH is likely) originally. When I drilled down on whether he was a FB, RB or etc that was lost on the person sharing the info ... Anybody got any ideas? He goes by Bob now. I'll see him in the next week or so to confirm - just thought it would be a fun exercise for those familiar with our historical rosters. Quote Link to comment
NM11046
Probably assumed based on NH clue - but just in case, he's a white guy. Quote Link to comment
NUance
Not from NH. We've only had one football player from New Hampshire. Joseph Hart, 1956. LINK Quote Link to comment
NM11046
Hmmmfg. It was funny - when this (other) guy told me that he played I peppered him with Qs and I think I overwhelmed him with specifics. I tried to explain that I would know him if he played but I don't think he believed me. So must be MA or ME. Quote Link to comment

NM11046
SO funny you say that - when I was told about him I laughed. I met him about a week ago and he's not a big guy - maybe 5'10-5'11'', and 9/10 time my gym clothes are Nebraska logo'd, who wouldn't have jumped all over that if they were an alum? AND if they played. More to come ... Quote Link to comment
MyBloodIsRed16
It's Bob Makovicka. The long lost Makovicka brother 1 Quote Link to comment
Kiyoat Husker
Bobby Thomas? WB 1974 from PA Robert Hicks? CB 1989 from CA Rob Leuck? LB 1988 walk-on from NE Bob Kingston? IB 1984 walk-on from NE Bob Smail? MG 1981 MI Quote Link to comment
Huskinator
If it's bob Kingston (doing simple math) he'd be between 51-55 years old. I'm betting it's him. Quote Link to comment
NM11046
I'm hoping I'll have some answers tomorrow morning - stay tuned! (and thanks for all the help!) Quote Link to comment
NM11046
Well here's the update ... Bob Bost. RB from Portsmouth, NH. I finally saw him today and once I said I was from NE he said, "I played RB there.". When I ask? He says, "I'm old". So am I! When were you there? He hems and haws and says 89-92 mumble. I told him I worked at the FB recruiting office, for Dave Gillespie and was there for 3 years, through the winter of 92. Nothing. (this would be like a recruit today not knowing Todd McShane - possible yes, but likely during their recruiting process they would have been in close contact with him) Asked if he was there with Lawrence - yes, when he was a senior this guy was a freshman. (which puzzled me, cuz didn't LP leave as a junior?) So I start rolling through RBs that were there during that time ... and others - he doesn't know anybody, but they all "sound familiar". Jones, Zatecha, Benning, Alberts, Dixon, Mackovicka, Schlesinger, Stai, True ... on and one and he knows nobody. Says that he'll have to go look up some guys. To say that I was more excited to talk to him about Nebraska than he was to me is an understatement. I asked if he stayed all 4 years and he said yes, but that just can't be the case. He said A&M, KState and NE all recruiting him. TO came to visit Portsmouth 3-4 times. When I told him we only had records of one scholarship player from NH he didn't act shocked or belligerent. Maybe I'm crazy, but if I played even one year I'd be pretty stoked to find another husker to talk to (shoot I'm stoked to find someone from the Big 10 here!) - there just aren't that many of us out here. I kinda feel bad because the more questions I asked the more evident it was that he didn't know much. Granted he was busy trying to manage the gym and deal with about 8 individuals so it will be interesting to see if on a slower day if he wants to talk more about it. I did find who I think is him on a Plymouth State Roster, (which is a NH state school) as a Sr. so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he didn't hear me correctly when I asked if he did all his time in Lincoln. So mystery solved - or is it? Quote Link to comment
ChiroHusker
If he played for the Huskers, he must of transferred back home after his freshmen year because he shows up on that teams roster soph-senior years. Quote Link to comment
NUance
I wonder if he was a partial qualifier who was on campus for a year but didn't make grades? We had a bunch of them back around that time. And I'm not sure whether they'd show up on any of our rosters. Quote Link to comment
NM11046
Probably - Plymouth State isn't exactly an "academic" school. Plus a 5'8" 190 white guy from NH wasn't going to make any lineup while Phillips, Benning et all were there. Kinda sad that he has spent years telling people this though, misleading them. Probably didn't think he'd ever run into a Nebraskan much less one that was in the program at that time. I spent some time with him again this week and it didn't come up. I think he's been humbled.
