Big Play Offense

Remember when people complained that we had too many big plays with Other Martinez and no consistency?

I would love to have that again just by itself, but with New Martinez maybe we can have both. I think he’s better and I think our OC is a lot better.

I think people overreacted regarding the big play offense under Taylor Martinez.  Yes, it would have been great for that offense to be more consistent, but it drives me nuts when fans say they prefer offenses which churn out a few yards at a time and take their time to score.  It's proven that offenses score more points by creating big plays.

Yes I agree. Being able to do a couple 30+ yard TD runs every game would go a long way towards getting more victories.

That was the problem with Riley/Lansdorf's offense.  It didn't create enough big plays, especially in the running game.  That forced the offense to go numerous plays to score, which led to a greater chance of having the drive stall out via penalty, sack, or turnover.

The perfect example of how a quick strike/big play offense is so great is from the Minnesota game after they cut NU"s lead to 28-22.  NU responded by going 74 yards in 4 plays to score a TD.  NU didn't even have a 2nd down in that drive to get worried about being stopped by Minny.
