Joe Ganz on OWH The Bottom Line today
HuskerCarter replied to ColoradoHusk's topic in Husker Football
That is what I liked about some of the previous coaching staff, the ability to turn 3 star rated guys into NFL caliber players and All-Americans. Its not an easy job, and it takes both coach and player to work at it, and I felt certain players and coaches never got the recognition they deserved for it. -
Orgeron as DC??

Off to LSU he goes. -
Grats to the Buckeyes. TCU and Baylor have to be pissed because that could've been them.

It means Tommy Armstrong will be a WR next year. -
8 Down 1 to Go...Who Will Be Our WR Coach?
HuskerCarter replied to GBR #1's topic in Husker Football
He is hiring the WR coach who was at Oregon St. you guys. -
CB - Prince Amukamara and Stanley Jean-Baptiste. Prince is a no brainer, and neither is Dennard, but I feel he deserves more of an honorable mention, because SJB was a WR playing in a CB spot, and it showed just how having that type of size on the defensive side of the ball really tips that scales more in your favor. I never will understand the notion of using a 5'8" CB against a 6'4" WR. S - DeJon Gomes and Nate Gerry. Nate Gerry established himself as one hell of a S. Gomes takes the cake for the 2nd pick easily, even though Stafford is in the NFL and Gomes isn't. Stafford was close to being my pick, but I felt positioning sometimes wasn't always he strong point. Very solid tackler though. K/P - Alex Henery and Brett Maher.
-
FB - Andy Janovich. You know when I first saw Janovich last year as a true freshmen on some very important plays, I thought maybe we were going back to utilizing the FB as more than just a blocker. Tim Beck proved me wrong, but hey at least Janovich brought a FB flash. TE - Kyler Reed. Tough call between Reed and McNeill. McNeill was the bigger reliable TE you could trust to run the correct route and had the steady hands for the catch. But Reed was just a fast TE that could stretch the field like a slot receiver. Again tough call. Where McNeill excelled at blocking, but lacked speed, Reed had the speed, but lacked the blocking. C - Mike Caputo. Small Center that started it all. By that I mean the tradition of Nebraska using undersized Centers. Didn't mean it was a bad thing, Caputo definitely did his job well.
-
DE - Martin and Gregory. Martin was just a beast, that unfortunately didn't have a solid interior line to really help him shine. Gregory? Well, do I need to say why I picked him? DT - Suh and Collins. Again, do I need to say why picked Suh? Collins was an interesting pick, it took all my strength not to pick Crick and Steinkuhler right off the bat and give some thought to those other names. Collins was pretty close with that of Valentine as well. LB - Compton, David, Anderson. Compton and David were easy for me to pick. Dillard did jump out at me, but again, I wanted to think long about the other guys, and quite frankly, it wasn't easy coming to Anderson as a final pick. I just feel like he could've done a lot more for Nebraska. Roach also crossed my mind, but again, if he had seen the field more, I think his career would have been better.

Thank Redux! This is gonna pass the time quickly for the offseason. Really looking forward to some debates here. QB - Taylor Martinez. It's pretty close between Ganz and Martinez, but I give Martinez an edge, only because he was a playmaker with his legs. When he had protection he was an adequate passer, but when rushed, he was terrible and never trusted his legs after that injury. RB - Rex Burkhead and Ameer Abdullah. Honorable mention has to be Roy Helu Jr. I give Burkhead and Abdullah the go ahead, because those guys got huge yards after contact. They were good at it. Roy Helu was more shifty and a sprinter. Burkhead was more of a workhouse that wore down a defense and was built for it. Ameer was like a hybrid of those two. Shifty, fast, and tough to bring down and got extra yards. WR - Nate Swift, Kenny Bell, Jordan Westerkamp. KB and JW were easy picks. Picking a 3rd was difficult, every time I looked over a name and thought of something positive, there was something negative that quickly popped into my head. In the end, Names like Jamal Turner and DPE just couldn't compare to some of the earlier receivers, and I'm not gonna speculate on what their remaining careers are going to be like in order to come to a conclusion. So for that, I picked Nate Swift.

Yep, 49ers announced they have cut ties with Harbaugh. It will be interesting to see how he does in Ann Arbor.

Is Bo Pelini's opinion on S.E. any different from our own opinions before he fired Bo Pelini? Go back and look at the garbage that some of you guys wrote about the guy and look in the mirror. Granted, Bo should have some professionalism, but the man is entitled to his opinion, which isn't too far off from what we thought of the guy.
-
I think that changes things quite a bit. Most didn't think Ohio St. would get in and had their bowl projections accordingly.
-
I see what you did there. Brava.

TA has an arm, he just needs to work on accuracy and it all starts with working on the little things and being more consistent with his progression. Give the kid a shot to work with some real QB coaches and I'm pretty confident you doubters will be singing a different tune about TA.

Too much work, let's burn down Huskerboard and pretend its Memorial Stadium.
-
considering what was said during the meeting - i'll guarantee you the off campus location was his decision not the universities....though I don't blame the university if they decided not provide a forum for Bo to criticize them. What was said? Do you have the notes or something...maybe I missed it? If you really want to know, harass the players until one of them tell you.

Or it could be a poor choice of words on Trey's account? Nah, that's not possible.

Does this include the fans that take to twitter and smack talk to these guys when they make a mistake on the field? Like DPE after the Minnesota game? For every one person attacting them on Twitter there's a hundred others defending them. If they're letting those few fans get in their heads then they need a coach who can teach them to toughen up and deal with it, especially the ones that want to go to the NFL.... Or a coach that tells them no social media.

Brady Hoke fired... Which is the better job?
HuskerCarter replied to ECoastHUSKR's topic in Husker Football
Agreed, Its easier to sell the Michigan and Florida venure than Nebraska. Not saying that Nebraska venure is bad, but I think Michigan and Florida have the edge on us by a little bit. Someone once said, its not all about finding the right coach for Nebraska, but finding the right coach that WANTS to be here at Nebraska. -
Sherman: Don't expect a lengthy search at Nebraska
HuskerCarter replied to zoogs's topic in Husker Football
With head coaching jobs open at Florida and now Michigan. I don't think Nebraska can afford to have a lengthy search. -
Why I don't like the idea of Scott Frost...
HuskerCarter replied to AgMarauder04's topic in Husker Football
yes, the criteria that Husker fans want out of a football head coach is very clear. Must have played/coached for the football program during a championship period. Must be from the state of Nebraska. Must have had success coaching in any aspect of football, no matter if it was Div. I or Div. III Must know how to be nice to fans and media. Must know how to win. Must know Nebraska football (run the ball, stop the run) Must be able to recruit top talent to the program while reopening the walk-on program.
