  1. Totally agree about his acceleration! It has been so awesome to see some would-be tackler take off after him at a speed that "seems" to indicate he will catch TM just like any other QB. But, THEN, when TM turns on those jets, he adds a 10 yard cushion that looks impossible in pure terms of physics. He is an amazing player, and his passing, maligned as it has been, has certainly been great and effective at times when we need it most. If I could have a TM grade player as QB for every Husker team in the future, I'd take it in a second. The man is a champ!
  2. Well, if it WAS there since his Frosh year, he HAS had plenty of time for rehab. Off-seasons, bye weeks, and so on. My only question would be a tough one to answer: Is a 75% TM going to perform better than a 100% RKIII and a young but 100% Tommy Armstrong combo? Only one way to find out, I suppose. But if Taylor underperforms because of the lingering injury, does it kill his confidence and momentum if he is pulled in favor of the other guys? Just thinking, about answers no one has, and hopefully no one ever HAS to answer.
  3. I am starving. Eighteen ounce porterhouse, done medium, double side of two loaded baked taters, and a glass of white wine. Yes, wine. I am, well, refined like that. Let's get to Indy and WIN.
  4. Well, in general, I LOVE chaos. And that's what it seems for now. Given that Nebraska has to win out to get any respect, including a possible CCG, I think we're in the best place we can be for now. I had been quite concerned about our youngsters and losing Taylor next year, but those concerns are receding. I think we are very well positioned for the next few years. If this year is as bad as we see for three or four years, I think we have great things to anticipate.
  5. Yep, pure physical attraction and heartfelt love. Together FOREVER!! I can imagine the problems though, with the age differences. Most of us discuss out difficulties and work concerns with our spouses, often after a bad day. Brett: "Terrible day. We have so much to work on." Hottie Wife: "There, there, dear. Why don't you just run that one thing like you did with the Badgers? You know, the one where that one guy throws the ball a long way, and that other guy runs away and catches it and you score seven points?" Yea, that sounds like fun. Of course, maybe the other "benefits" take away some of the sting. And the big money contracts.
  6. I counted something like 11-12 top 25 teams defeated by underdogs this week. Honestly, it looks like the pollsters did exactly what I would have done: Throw darts at a board in the dark to come up with the ranks. Hopefully things get more settled moving forward. If anyone has cause for concern, I think it is Mizzou. If I were a Tiger fan, I think I would be mortally afraid of what is likely to happen the rest of the season. From 25 to 14 to 5 in three weeks? That has to be one of the largest leaps in polling history.
  7. I feel, in general, the same about men and women announcers as I stated above. However, it seems like there is a simple criteria for ESPN and female announcers. Have you smoked six packs a day for at least ten years, and have you been working a major city vice squad for eight of those years? Okay, you're hired. It sounds terrible and I hope it changes soon. There are a ton of female voices I would love to hear announce a game. Perhaps they just aren't interested, so far, in college football.
  8. I found it hard to make sense of the Iowa Ohio game today. Number four, really? I think they are both beatable but I hope if we meet the Buckeyes in Indy it is closer to the team that played today. However, iowa looked far better than I expected, too. Strange day, and all those upsets. Seems like the SEC got badly exposed. Or, if you take the other tact, it is just too tough a conference to predict. Looks like we are not the only conference with major questions.
  9. Agreed, and I hate like hell that it sounds like a typical sexist or chauvinist comment. I sure don't intend it that way, or mean it that way. However, if a lady is going to call games, I would greatly prefer she sound like a lady, and have a somewhat attractive and pleasant speaking voice. It is also a requirement I want and enjoy from male announcers, when it happens. Overall, I think ALL announcers should generally sound clear, pleasant, and be able to accurately describe what is happening and provide decent insight. There are also many male announcers I prefer not to listen to for the same reasons. I suppose the issue is magnified by the proportionate lack of female callers in the business right now. Hopefully it changes or begins to soon.
  10. Did or does Spencer have NFL talent or aspirations? If so, I hope this doesn't wreck his chance.
  11. As I said above, I just hope he finds a way to get healthy and continue. He is a great coach. Sudden death IS a serious problem for epileptics, accounting for up to 20% (1 in 5) deaths in epileptics. No one knows why, but severe seizures can echo through a person's systems and result in cardiac problems and other events that can end life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudden_unexpected_death_in_epilepsy There are plenty of sources in that Wiki article, and on MedScape to look at for anyone so inclined. I sincerely hope that he makes the right choices for himself and his family first, and for football second. Of course, only he and his family can make those decisions, but it is heartbreaking for myself (and I assume the rest of you) to see this on such a public stage. The bright side, I suppose, is it probably leads to greater awareness among CFB fans, at least.
  12. Coach Kill and Minnesota have announced that he is taking an indefinite amount of time off to work on his health: http://www.gophersports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/101013aaa.html Glad (and sad) to hear it. I hope it goes well and he returns healthy and ready to coach.
  13. I'd rather bid on Lil' Red, as long as it came with a guarantee we'd never see that abomination again. The horseshoe? I wouldn't even try. Far deeper pockets than mine would prevail.
  14. There are so many teams, still undefeated at this point, that I am hoping for BCS catastrophe this year. Like 5-6 undefeated to finish the year. I would really enjoy the chaos, and so many teams have great schedules. It could happen.
  15. I feel really bad for Coach Kill. He is the best thing to happen to that team in a long time. He is a great coach. But I also can't help but worry: Will we one day witness the ultimate tragedy, the end of a man's life, live on TV. Or the event that leads to his death, starting on the sidelines, only to find out he passed away at the hospital? Is he married? Kids? At some point it becomes irresponsible to his family to continue this, if these attacks are brought on by stressful situations, like the sideline of a football game. What an unfortunate situation for everyone there.
  16. Well, cut the man some slack. All of us old guys would probably sleep with one. If she was hot. Or at least young. And we would not be caught. Or fired. Or divorced. Or made to look silly in public. Okay, never mind. Let's call him if he can field a good defense!
  17. This could get interesting. Texas, probably, and the Trojans looking for a new coach the same year. Not to mention several others. I only hope Nebraska is not part of this circus.
  18. Before this gets any more messed up, can someone tell me: are there rules about live tackles in practice? I hate to go back to the nineties, but one thing that stands out, is those teams utterly beat the living tar out of each other. To the point that fights ensued. Every week. It resulted in common respect among teammates, and a universal desire to do the same to every opponent they fAced. Did New rules take that from us, or did we give it up voluntarily? Apologies for the errors, I am on my tablet and auto correct is killing me.
  19. You're right. Brian Bailey was a S&C Coach, one of the best apparently, anywhere. In reading Paul Koch's new book, it is astonishing how often his name keeps coming up. It comes up at LEAST as much as Osborne or Solich or anyone really. Seriously, he had THAT big an impact on the players, their work in the conditioning area, and particularly in their rehab work after injuries. Almost every single interview with players in that book mentions Bailey, very specifically, as having made a huge difference in theor college career, and almost all of those that played pro say that his influence made an impact there, too. Many of the NFL guys came back to him in their offseasons to work, all the way up until when he was let go by the new regime. I think he is still in the game, doing the same for either USC or UCLA? Somewhere in CA anyway.
  20. They will go BIG in dollars, I think, and get their first or second choice. It would be a coaching dream to land there. Endless money, incredible recruiting ground. And, importantly, a school that truly is willing to give you a very long chance to get it done. To the point of finishing in mediocrity, even? Sure looks that way with the Mack Brown era closing out. Man, the right candidate probably draws NFL money and a very long contract, as long as they win the conference in the first five years. And, short of successive losing seasons, I think the next coach there WILL get five years to prove they either get it or do not. Makes me wish I was an up and comer. Imagine spending a decade in Austin and coming out the other side worth 50 mil or more, and possibly lasting longer and gaining more. The only downside is the LHN. I think they still broadcast practices and I am certain opponents at least look at it. Perhaps even gain some advantages from it. And the time commitment, on top of all the other things a coach has to do. Still, for the money, I'd take it. Maybe negotiate a lesser amount of time to the LHN if that's even possible in the ESPN deal.
  21. I don't believe we fire Bo. If bo moves on of his own accord, even with a little behind the scenes help, I view that differently. CFB is a "what have you done lately" beast, but the echoes of Frank Solich do still ring around the coaching world. At the worst, I expect Bo might end up with some serious pressure to retool the defense, hire someone new, and quit trying to spread the job between himself and a D coordinator who really seems to be more of a whipping boy than a coordinator right now. If we don't see the D massively improved in the next year or two, then I could see Bo being on the seriously hot seat. Until then, it would be hard to fire him given the win percentage. I know the blowouts are puzzling, unacceptable, etc. But I think it is more palatable for everyone to try to fix those things with the staff we have. Rolling the dice on an entirely new staff and philosophy? I think that is incredibly unlikely for the next couple years, unless we see a losing season.
  22. I dunno. Is it REALLY a sellout if there are empty seats here and there? Sounds fishy to me. Piling up the myths? Or the real deal? More controversy for the bye week. Just great . . .
  23. I agree with you. A lot of this season may be determined by how TM recovers from the turf toe injury. Even so, the performance we're seeing today may point to us being very well prepared for the future with Armstrong. Looks like he has been well developed.
  24. Looks good. Now, I just hope the fans can put this in the rearview mirror and support the team. Nothing more I can say that hasn't already been beat to death. GBR!!
