  1. Had we not lost to Purdue, I would agree. That loss is a tough one to swallow. Purdue won two games. Indiana St (5-6) & Nebraska. Not good company to be in.
  2. Basketball ranks way up there as the most non-contact sports. Hand slapping & pushing doesn't make it a contact sport.
  3. I was thinking the same thing. I just don't see Langsdorf letting this happen. He has shown all year & even in the bowl game that he wants to use the QB to score points & win games, not just manage the offense.
  4. I agree, but we cannot see another season where academic's is the only reason we get into a bowl game.
  5. I would guess he doesn't get a NFL gig this year & makes his way back to the college level for the following year. If Riley struggles again next year. I could see NU being a stop for him, but I also think Texas will be looking & that may be the best fit for him.
  6. I was mostly happy with the last game. I still can't stand to see the shotgun formation in the redzone, but it was a solid effort from all three units. All and all it was a crappy season, but at least they left us with some hope for the future. Happy New Year's to you as well
  7. I really think the offensive scheme for the UCLA game was more Riley then Langsdorf. I feel like he finally stepped in and told Langs what he needed to do. He has stated many times he likes to let his coaches coach, but he will over rule them if he ever needs to. I think that is what we finally saw. Even with the team focusing on running the ball, there was still a lot of questionable playcalls & formations mainly in the redzone. I will never understand the use of the shotgun formation in the redzone when you are winning the physical battle on the line. Why not let your big back run down hill, behind a really good blocking FB. I think some of these issues are because of Langsdorf & his want to throw the ball or at least give the look that they might throw the ball. I really hope this staff looks at some power/pro style teams like Alabama, LSU & Stanford. I also hope to see a big focus put on the guys on both sides of the line of scrimage. OL's & DL's make up almost 60% of the players on the field. You need to recruit with that stat in mind. An average QB & RB look much better when you have an elite line.
  8. Pretty simple: with similarly talented rosters, a fired coach won north of .700 of his games here. Only when a coach comes in and lays an egg against a very easy schedule do we hear that the talent isn't there to continue 9+ win seasons. Of course, that's not what was said at the time of the firing last year. And it's not the case today, either. The roster isn't perfect, but it's far better than the results that were wrung out of it. Now cue: we only won last year because of a single player arguments. Talent level under Frank was dropping, anyone who is honest can see that. Same with the last staff. MK III Eyeball Detector. Frank had the #14 class in the country when he was fired, and he likely would've signed Woodhead. Exposed again. You straight up invent crap to try to make a point. http://dataomaha.com/neb100/player/60 "Danny Woodhead doesn’t dwell on not being recruited by Nebraska and why should he?" Exposed again. You straight up invent crap to try to make a point. http://dataomaha.com/neb100/player/60 "Danny Woodhead doesn’t dwell on not being recruited by Nebraska and why should he?" Solich had already recruited Woodhead to walkon, and if a bunch of blue chips didn't fall into place by signing day, he would have gotten a full ride. Solich had already asked Woodhead to walkon at the Huskers summer camp before his senior year. And then Solich was fired in November when Woodhead's senior season was barely over. The misinformation spewed here by some is outrageous. I'm not saying he was offered or even that he definitely would have been offered. What I'm saying is, if it had gotten near signing day and a spot or two was still open (which was usually the case with Solich) Woodhead would have been a likely recipient. But Callahan completely ignored him. So he accepted the Chadron State offer. However disappointed that Nebraska contacted him once and never called back, Woodhead chose Division II Chadron State not so much as a consolation prize but as an opportunity to reunite with his older brother, Ben, a wide receiver. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/02/sports/football/danny-woodhead-is-a-big-talent-in-a-small-package.html?_r=0 Your article is from 2012. Funny how memories and stories change after 9 years. Let's look at something closer to the actual timeline: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/26/sports/ncaafootball/26back.html So yes, Solich was in touch, they had several conversations, he attended camp, he was asked to walkon, ALL before he even started his senior year. Now stop the misinformation. EDIT: I think your 2012 article was specifically talking about post-Solich. After Callahan was hired, Woodhead was contacted once about walking on and that was it. This is correct. Solich wanted him as a walk-on & he may have ended up with a filler scholarship or even a gray-shirt had Solich missed on a few guys later in the signing period & not been fired. When Solich was fired the lines of communication were cut completely. Many people were mad about how the walk-on program was treated under Callahan, the whole time he was here.
  9. Not to add more fuel, but we lost to Illionis & Purdue in the same season. That should never happen. Ever.
  10. Agreed...we are lucky to have Langs. Still a bit shocked that CFL team did not pony up more to try and get him. Maybe they saw the 1st & goal series from the MSU game or any of the other boneheaded play calling series that he had this year. Don't get me wrong I think he will improve his play calling abilities, but he needs somemore time to develop as a OC before he takes over a small program or CFL team.
  11. Wow, 2001. Really? That is just sad. To be fair Spencer Long was on his way before an injury.
  12. New first time head coaches at Nebraska in the last 50 years: Tom Osborne - .836 Frank Solich - .753 Bo Pelini - .713 New "experienced" coaches at Nebraska in the last 50 years: Bill Callahan - .551 Mike Riley - .417 Quit using your facts to prove a point. We perfer the use of speculative fiction around here.
  13. I think you are wrong about aTm in the Houston market. They brought the SEC Network to Texas, but I don't think the SEC Network is a tier 1 channel in Houston. Someone from that area would have to chime in to confirm. As for the cutting the cord, I agree. I think you will see more networks go to a monthly pay app style network. Sling TV is the start to it. You get a few basic networks & you pay for additional packages, like the sports package, kids package or HBO. This style will also make the conferences look less at markets they are in & more for the prestige factor of a team. Making big name teams more valuable then the market they are in.
  14. Except things are different now with the behind the scenes drama with Osborne and the administration. I don't see Eichorst and Frost having a real meaningful discussion. What drama? And who's to say Eichorst will even be the AD if Frost ever does interview for the job? I agree Eichorst may not be the AD at that point, which could change the possibilities with Frost. My hope would be something like that would happen. When the stars align AD Trev Alberts Then hires HC Scott Frost Who hires OC - Tom Rathman DC Mike Minter or Clint Brown
  15. They forgot Tommy to TCU Or at least a non-P5 school closer to home for TA, like Tulsa (where we had another QB transfer to not too long ago...) And BTW, the SEC would never take Houston--the approval would go through aTm (not unlike how the SEC approving GT would go through Georgia, Clemson through South Carolina, or FSU/Miami/FIU/FAU/SMIOTB would go through Florida), and they'd veto the hell out of a close competitor like that. And if Texas capitulated and played nice...I could see Aggie letting Texass in the SEC. Especially since the rest of the SEC would tell the Aggies to suck it up and STFU due to all the dollar signs they'd be seeing. Of course...that would require Texass wanting to join the SEC in the first place. How do you know this? We know from the last expansion merry-go-round. This came up as the reason why the SEC didn't look to any other FL, GA, or SC schools for expansion, in spite of numerous viable candidates already in the SEC footprint that would have brought more to the table than Mizzery I don't know if that courtesy would be extended to aTm, though, since they aren't part of the SEC's "old guard", if you will. And my point is even if that courtesy is extended normally, it wouldn't be if Texass was the team wanting to join--their (money) cache would trump any objection Aggie had over Texass in the SEC. It had nothing to do with the other teams giving them a veto. Missouri was added for the KC Market. A very good market & the hope for tier 1 programing. This is very common knowledge. Texas's money has little to do with a SEC invite. Its all about the market that they offer. Making U of H a P5 school & getting a piece of the Houston market would be huge for any conference. The question is, can U of H bring that market at the tier 1 level. Most people think they cannot.
  16. Was that a joke? Sorry I didn't laugh LOL Not a joke. Just seems weird to me to formally dismiss a player before their final game in a very inconsequential bowl game. At this point, you might as well just let it ride and not play him in the bowl game, but I don't see the utility of throwing a guy off the team roughly a week before the final game of his college career. Was that a joke? Sorry I didn't laugh LOL I am also confused. No Trip or Ipod from the bowl?
  17. He is a lawyer in Nebraska running for congress. Hmmmmm, a lawyer. Running for Congress. So does that make it more likely, or less likely, that it's true? Depends on who is paying him
  18. Any way you slice it, it's hard to get past this point.Let's not ignore Bo and Co's ineptitude recruiting that put us in this situation partially as well.I would add that Riley gets this years talent not last years' (AKA not an NFL running back). At least Callahan did not leave a bare cupboard. Riley still under performed and he was too interested in getting his system into place, not catering to the players talents so he better make the best of the mulligan he gets this year. People say that Solich left a bare cupboard. In reality, Callahan inherited more and higher drafted NFL prospects than Pelini did. The artist shapes the clay. I highly doubt Bo would have won less than this year with this exact roster. WHAT?????? While I don't completly agree with what CM said. Solich's class was ranked at #14 when he was fired, If you look over the roster he pulled in some good talent that year.
  19. We don't know how many games Pelini would have won or lost with this unit.
  20. Or maybe he will be Frost's OC. HC Scott Frost OC Zac Taylor Chip Kelly DC Adam Carriker And here......we......go! FIFY
