  1. Looks like you have done some serious thinking about this.................congrats..... I expect we will see a product on the field that mirrors the head coach...........................i.e. ...............the scrappy, fiesty Fighting Erstads............. btw..............Spitznogle.........? Any name like that HAS to have West Virginee roots.................
  2. Since we all get pretty serious and passionate on this forum........... Seems like a good opportunity for some light-hearted fun........ Merry Christmas...................... http://www.247comedy.com/obama-musical
  3. Stay inside..............you boobs.................
  4. I must not fully grasp just how much money it really takes to be able to afford a decent haircut........................If DT can't afford it, I'm speechless......................
  5. pass whatever your smoking this way..... He is not the recruiter Cally was, and he inherited a decent amount of talent (look at all the NFL picks over the last 4 years). No matter if you support Bo or not, lets atleast be honest about it. Not to mention that half of the players cally got never saw the field. Recruiting and developing are 2 different subjects. I think Bo and his staff can do both. Not to mention Bo wins 9 or 10 games every year while half the time Clownahan would win 5 or 6 games.... or that in his first four years he'll win 10 games twice (even with taking over a hopelessly shipwrecked program).and possibly three times while Clownahan won 10 games zero times. But of course recruiting stars are vastly more important than results on the field. pass whatever your smoking this way..... Can you people be any more dull? Those "stars" that you mock Callahan for are what Bo has been working with his first three years here. Which was a lot, if Bo took over in 2003, he wouldn't have made a bowl game either with that "talent" that the drunken midget left NU. Hell TO wouldn't have been able to win 6 games with Joe Dailey as your only scholarship QB and three defensive lineman on the team. I think it's so funny how all of these excuses are given for Bo "needing time to build a program" and is allowed to go through assistant changes just about every year while Callahan was ran out of town without being given the chance to hire a new DC. Cally was not given a chance to hire a new DC......?? Every delivery system from smoke signals to carrier pigeons to disgruntled regents to inmates at the local ward were BEGGING for him to jettison KC.....! Now, I admire loyalty, but at some point RESULTS and EVIDENCE have to matter. For what it's worth, I believe Cally would have had an opportunity to coach multiple more years here if he was not surgically welded at the hip to Cos..............
  6. JP, Els, Raymond, Garrison, Fischer have no connections to Youngstown. Dobson too. You guys do realize it was a joke by Sam Mckewon when he tied Katz back to Youngstown, right? He said his dad was born there but it has no bearing on this hire what so ever. Katz grew up in Pennsylvania. I think he was even born there if I'm not mistaken. Bo didn't know him from any previous stops. He was impressed with him last year when he interviewed him and almost hired him at that time. I must have missed the info on interviewing him last year. Please elaborate................
  7. Regardless of where you stand on Bo's developing legacy, if Randy York's numbers are correct..............this is fairly impressive Among schools currently in a BCS automatic-qualifying conference, Pelini has become just the 15th head coach in college football history to win at least nine games in their first four seasons on the job at that school. The group includes four Nebraska coaches (Bob Devaney, Tom Osborne, Frank Solich and Pelini). Pelini, Solich and Texas’ Mack Brown were the only coaches in Big 12 history (1996) to win nine or more games in each of their first three seasons. Pelini also was among a group of 18 FBS head coaches who were hired for their jobs beginning with the 2008 season. Pelini leads that group of 18 head coaches in victories over the past four years with 38 wins, three more than Houston’s Kevin Sumlin, who just left his job to take over at Texas A&M. Pelini, in fact, is one of only seven coaches in the group of 18 still in the job they were hired for prior to the 2008 season. There’s more. When looking only at those in their first head coaching job at a BCS Conference school, Pelini is one of only six to win nine games in each of their first four years on the job. To me, it’s fairly fascinating that three of those six coaches are from Nebraska: Osborne (1973-74-75-76), Solich (1998-99-2000-01) and Pelini (2008-09-10-11). The other three are Oklahoma’s Barry Switzer (1973-74-75-76), Miami’s Larry Coker (2001-02-03-04) and Louisville’s Bobby Petrino (2003-04-05-06). 8. Simple case of the Pubs being right on principal (a continuing series of CR's to stopgap fund the government is NOT an efficient way to govern), but got caught on the wrong side of the politics. In that, it allowed the dems to frame it as the GOP being against tax cuts, which is ironic, since the dems always rail against that, but this framing allowed them to portray Pubs as against cuts. It was always just a semantic battle because the president and dems. "victory " puts $20 a week in workers pockets for 2 months for a grand total of $160. Hardly the stuff of a major policy shift. But it did allow the dems to win the public relations battle and the Speaker to come across as ineffective. Even though, in reality, all he was angling for was a 1 year extension so they didn't have to fight this battle again in February. Regardless, the real losers (again) are the American public. The payroll extension cuts cut off the only consistent funding mechanism for social security which is already insolvent. So it's another case of robbing Peter to pay Paul. And, when that happens, the only thing you get is a sore Peter.
  9. CCR.................it's all good................
  10. The government did manage to self-correct. An equally compelling argument could be made for prohibition being the result of overreach by Christian groups attempting to legislate morality. (With interesting parallels to the modern day.) Many facets. Interesting stuff. Agreed.....................although the lure of funding the government via alcohol taxes surely played a "minor" role in self-correction................ Absolutely. I think that's one of the stronger arguments for the the pro-marijuana legalization crowd. Save billions in enforcement costs and raise significant amounts of money through taxing sales. Great interview... I really like that he takes grants from the gov then PAYS IT BACK once he gets money... I am on the fence with fed support of the "arts", if more people were like this I would be a little more supportive of it... Agree again. Fed support of the "ARTS" is much more of a hot button issue now that the definition of ART seems to expand into anything anyone can regurgitate. And even though I'm aware there is no universal standard, I'm much more comfortable supporting something tangible like Burn's work than just any off-beat idea that any weirdo can throw against the wall, get government bucks for it, and then rationalize it because most "regular" Americans aren't smart enough to discern "real" ART. Such as a crucifix in a jar of urine.
  11. I'm hoping to stay abreast of the issue...............

  13. While I loved the show, it seems as if Burns (the lifelong Dem) is so close to the situation he misses the obvious..............................Overwhelming government intervention in our private lives. The encroachment of the "nanny state" that so many believe is necessary to enable we poor peons to function...............
  14. I could see Terry Bowden developing into a top level coach in the next few years. Again. Played D1 fb, wicked smart, great coaching lineage. This was an awesome get by the Zips. Don't see Terry staying more than a couple or three years though. Then again, perhaps he's fed up with dealing with Auburn-type boosters. He won't have that trouble at Akron. Yeah...I always thought the way that whole Auburn thing went down was just weird. From the outside looking in, it would appear that Bowden's wheels kind of flew off there. But I think a lot of inside people would tell you that Auburn deal had a darker side to it. From everything I heard, they basically have one booster (Lowder) running the entire program and once Bowden got sideways with him, his fate was sealed. I didn't blame him for hanging it up after that. But now that he's back in the coaching mix, he should have a pretty fast track back into the BCS level teams...if he wants that. Good coach...good hire by Akron I think. I don't think him "hanging" it up was necessarily his choice or desire. I always felt he was desperate to get back into D-1 coaching, but there was some infamous "cloud" hanging over him that made him sort of untouchable for a while.
  15. I tend to think the exact opposite. Doc's grind it out low scoring style worked well against teams that wanted to run. They would struggle in their half court sets against Doc's defense and it would give Nebraska an advantage. Now in the B1G most teams are going to be accustomed to that style game in and game out lessening Nebraska effectiveness. Interesting perspective......................guess we'll have to see how it plays out.............................my point was more about recognizing we were never going to win consistently in games that were high-scoring, and just the fact that "the norm" now was going to be more in the 60's range at least might give us an opportunity to hang around and not get blown out early. I DO foresee us getting manhandled in the post on a regular basis.............
  16. I'm pumped because I think the B!G fits Doc's style better than the Big 12. Not saying he won't lose us any games because of undecipherable late game management and lack of a cohesive offense, BUT I think (with lower scores being the norm), we will be more competitive than most are projecting.
  17. This reminds me an awful lot of the Tommy Zibignowski (wrong spelling I'm sure) recruiting battle lost to Notre Dame. If I recall it correctly, he said that telling Frank no (and following his families wishes to go to ND) was one of the hardest things he ever had to do. Of course, he ended up with quite a few honors and was one tough player......................Also, made a few scheckles in the boxing game..........
  18. Gratified to hear of the public support for Frank. What Pedey and his ego did (not just the firing and it's timing) but the infantile stripping of Solich remnants from the athletic offices was an embarrassment. I have been trying quietly behind the scenes to get the University to honor Frank at a home game for several years. Because Ohio plays so many mid-week games, scheduling it should not be that much of an issue. So far, the efforts have not yielded much, but as time passes, it definitely should happen. Perhaps Frank was hesitant early on, wondering about the reception he would receive. But there is no doubt in my mind, Husker fans (even those who were/are critical of him and his coaching) recognize the length and quality of service he invested as a Husker, and would respond with a thunderous ovation at Memorial stadium. Maybe everyone could move on and close that chapter. (that still seems to linger passionately even on message boards)
  19. I would tend to disagree with you. He has come out and publicly said that he is still committed to Nebraska. Westerkamp said. “All I can say is the visit Notre Dame visit was good, and I had a good time there. I am still committed to Nebraska though.” Westerkamp said he really likes both of the coaching staffs at both schools, but his relationship with Nebraska’s staff is a little stronger since he has been committed for so long. I'd love to be wrong......................
  20. I tend to agree he's gone. Too many opportunities to publicly remain committed to us. Shame. I truly believe he could have re-written our receiving records. Wish him the best, but reinforces my distaste of all things Domer. (if they had been in on him from the beginning, I might feel differently)
  21. You know if it was ANYBODY else, I'd be tempted to feel a little empathy for Pedey.............................but it's not,....................... so I DON'T..............
  22. Take door number #2 Montee...........................
  23. I believe my quote was "I've heard"..............which I had.................. Are we now required to footnote every original source..........??
