  1. Calipari is probably the only coach who could make us competitive in one season in the NCAA. He's not coming here nor would I want him to. I'm happy with T Miles and will patiently wait for the turnaround. Next year might not be pretty but it will happen.
  2. The smart thing about recruiting in Big 10 territory is those recruits aren't playing for a team in our conference when they sign with us, while we usually don't compete against other Big 10 teams for Texas or Calif kids. Not that Mich or OSU are always in on the kids we sign, often Iowa, PSU,Mich St, and Wisc are.
  3. Loosing two family members in a short time can be most difficult to deal with. She will need lots of time to grieve but also all the friends she has to lean on. My prayers go out for your friend.
  4. I hope this doesn't bode ill for future Husker teams in baseball. I heard rumors this week that Husker teams in the Bid 12 wouldn't loose kids drafted in the 20th round and they would stay hoping to improve their draft status the next year. I don't want kids leaving early now that we are in the Big 10 because they feel they can't improve playing here (meaning the competition not the coaching). Erstad I'm sure is working hard to change that thinking if it exists and wants kids to commit for the long haul.
  5. I'm not Catholic but we can use all the help we can get! St Jude will need to be on the bench a lot this coming year I'm afraid.
  6. One reason I like Stanton is the amount of knowledge he has been coached and learned in a short time. A kid doesn't do the things I'm seeing on film without someone who knows the game teaching him the right way to do things. While speed and a powerful arm can go a long way I think a complete understanding of the game is more important. Look at Peyton Manning. He is a tall rangy guy but not exceedingly athletic. Not elusive and doesn't have quick feet. What he does have is a strong mind that can see the field and read his receivers and a strong arm to get them the ball in a position that is only catchable by the receiver and sheltered from the defensive back. I'm not saying Stanton is the next incarnation of Manning or Andrew Luck but I think he is in that mold.
  7. Maybe after seeing what a very elusive QB can do to a defense (Wisconsin and Michigan last year), perhaps do want one running QB with fair passing skills and try to turn him into a similar style. I thought Andrew Luck did a good job in the reverse last year. A highly efficient passer who could get a few tough yards when needed with his feet. I see Stanton in that mold.
  8. From his film I saw him drop back to complete passes and also roll out with equal success. If his receivers are covered he isn't shy about tucking it in and running for daylight. He has offers from the academies, Cal and SDSU I think but word is starting to spread to the rest of the country. His GPA is also very high (Stanford quality) so passing the ACT wouldn't be a problem.
  9. Player: Johnny Stanton Hometown: Rancho Santa Margarita, CA School: Santa Margarita Catholic Position: QB (Dual-Threat) Height: 6'2" Weight: 220 40 time: Offers: Air Force, California, Navy, San Diego State, Utah State, Washington Rivals: :star 247: :star :star Scout: :star ESPN: :star :star 6'2" 210 or 220 depending on where you read about him. He led his high school, Rancho Santa Margarita to the 5A California State Championship last season. We have not offered but he will camp here this summer. A 60% passer good for over 2400 yards and 13 TD's. Over 1400 yards on the ground and 21 TD's. Scored the winning TD in the state championship game.
  10. If the wife was a keeper (great cook, fine to look at and a fun time, or some combination of those two) I could stand one cat in the house if she kept the litter box clean. Outside of that they would disappear as fast as she brought them home and after 10 I would be looking for a new place to live.
  11. My Spurs ran out of gas last night. I was hoping the role players could step up and contribute more. S Jackson did well and hit some incredible shots but when the Big 3 started to tire it wasn't enough. Youth trumped experience this time.
  12. This feels a bit like a kid at Christmastime who has told Santa what he wants and now has to wait for Christmas morning. The wait will be a bit longer for us "boys" but its still fun to surmise "who" will be under the tree when the recruits sign their LOI's.
  13. While it would create some excitement making the first 16 team league, unless I'm missing something the inequity in games would be a stumbling block for the lesser teams. 2 teams each year would play 13 games. 2 teams would play 12 while the other 12 would only get 11 (plus a bowl game if lucky). Many schools have a hard time surviving on the revenue from 12 games and since the lesser blowls are a financial drain it would cost them to send a team. I'm not sure if the revenue sharing from the extra championship game would make up the difference.
  14. It doesn't seem like he is running that fast but he has that Eric Dickerson "gliding" speed that is deceptive. Once he is in overdrive those long strides quickly get him past defenders and into the end zone.
  15. It's exciting to see what DE and his coaches can do with a full year of recruiting. The players will be young but they will benefit from starting out in his system.
  16. If the past 5 or 6 weeks are a predictor of the future years then I'd say we are in good hands. This is the first year in many (8 or 9?) that there has been a buzz about Husker B Ball in the summer. A number of quality kids are visiting and a few have signed on.
  17. I'm sure it galls Stern that the 2 teams left in the west are San Antonio and OKC, both small market teams. Obviously the networks wanted the Lakers and the Heat and it looks like Stern informed the refs that any call in crunchtime would go in favor of the Heat. Hats off to the Celts for playing hard.
  18. While it is hard to blame west coast kids for wanting to play at USC or Stanford (or heaven forbid Oregon), Chans could be part of a killer LB crew should he choose Nebraska. Just because grandpa played here 40 years ago probably isn't a huge factor for him though it might keep our foot in the door.
  19. While our coaches aren't currently having success recruiting the 2013 class on the offensive side, they are quietly building a decent defensive group. Maybe we build a strong enough defense that creates turnovers often enough that the offense doesn't have far to move the ball to score and at worst we get a FG. Alabama has used this blueprint for a few years with some success. As Husker fans we need to remember we aren't often in the mind of 5 star high school kids from the coasts and SEC territory on the offensive side of the ball. It may take years to get to that level but a few defensive kids will take visits here and some will get on board. Whatever it takes for this staff to get us to championship status is fine with me.
  20. The world has always been a lot off kelter. The combination of drunk sports fans with strong loyalities in a large crowd can be deadly. All it takes is one drunk fool, packing heat, with his feelings hurt, along with some loud mouth to push him over the edge. Many people can get hurt in a short time.
  21. Thanks for the update on the South Dakota kid. It seems that state produces one or 2 Div 1 players every year. One of the best Husker ballplayers of all time was Eric Piatkowski. I believe a 10 year pro. It would be good to lock down those kids and paint the state Husker Red.
  22. What is the answer for stupidity like this? Obviously the government welfare agencies are providing for most if not all of these kids as this idiot works at McDonalds. His actions are remniscent of some animals trying to spread their gene pool around. Even if the cost to care for these kids comes to $10,000 per child that is $330,000 for all of them. His yearly contribution amounts to about $5000 at most. This joker needs to have his hooter cut off.
  23. Lots of water will flow under the bridge between now and signing day for all 3 concerned parties. Akoy could be swayed by a number of things. Biggs will be talking to him more than likely, as will Miles. UConn could find themselves in more violations if the NCAA pursues their issues. Calhouns health isn't the best and while I wish him well, one bad Dr's find could cause him to retire.
  24. I like the fact that our coaches are still searching nationwide for the best recruits. Although it would seem Ohio is fast becoming a second Nebraska for us. We still are offering kids from the border states....Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Colorado while trying to open up states like Penn and NJ. Calif continues to get lots of Husker attention as well.
  25. I think the only "out" for the Republican Party is a position I hold. The government should not be in the marriage business. Let the local courthouse issue only civil union licenses. It would allow the married couple the legal rights to transfer property and allow for the care of children. Churches can do the marriage ceremony and can marry any two people that their religion allows. We have more important issues in this country to decide and the energy that "gay marriage" saps from public discourse just allows the politicians to divert our attention from what really needs to get solved.
