  1. Congrats to Frank and the Ohio program. Frank is in a place where he is appreciated for his hard work. I applaud him for landing on his feet and making the Ohio program something to cheer for and be proud of.
  2. I was thinking that as well last night watching the Ohio game. Noah was a beast at Kearney High. It's a real shame some Nebraska kids have to fall through the cracks and slip to other colleges. On the other hand maybe their careers would never have gone as far if they had come here.
  3. The poor Nittany Lions can't catch a good break.
  4. I think at this point Doc would be tickled to have Andre contribute to a couple wins for two reasons. If he doesn't play this year he will want to redshirt and come back next year. Doc probably sees the handwriting on the wall and would just as soon free up the scholarship rather than have him return for another injury plagued season. Also I'm sure that if Doc could get one game in the NCAA's he would be assured of another year.
  5. It's hard to judge this class and our coaches by the success or perceived lack of success of this new class. We'll have to wait and see how it shakes out before we'll know. If committed players decide at the last minute to change directions it won't be the first time that has happened to a team. I hope the last 8 or 9 players that eventually sign LOI's are the players that we need. We have to find a few "bell cows" on defense.
  6. In most things I try to be a realist while remaining positive. When Bo took over the program he was left with a few good athletes that needed coaching. Depth was a problem and some areas were in bad shape (offensive line). The first two classes he recruited weren't very good which is understandable since the coaching staff was new and they had to work to establish themselves. These are the players that are on the field right now. The kids redshirting this year I think are pretty good and this years class while small could have some quality players if all goes well which I think it will. We'll get some good kids and probably loose some we wanted. I think Beck will get better at play calling and our identity will improve. We have a decent bunch of receivers and the oline has potential. An improvement at Qb would be the trigger we need to make the offense a team to look out for. This team will be young next year again and I see them getting better but it looks like our Big 10 rivals are upgrading too. They are a work in progress and it may be awhile before we consistantly break into the top 10. They are my team and I love following them so I'm in through hell or high water.
  7. Put me in the column of people who have never driven drunk. Put me in the column of people who have never been drunk.
  8. I appreciate all the years of hard work and success you had as a player Mike. What a dumb ass way to end your career.
  9. The issue of this post isn't whether hockey players get more than a bloody nose or if MMA is a "skill" sport. The one thing that chaps me about discussion boards like this is when people take issue with something out in left field and attempt to cause a thread drift. The OP started a good thread about a current event, that being the fight at yesterdays Cincinnati-Xavier basketball game. Most of the posters have made comments about the game and the stupidity of fighting. If anyone wants to discuss the relative merits of hockey or MMA in depth please feel free to start your own thread.
  10. The excitement for me would have been seeing a pretty good offensive team play a really good defensive team. We'll never know what the outcome might have been because someone decided a rerun was better. A defensive struggle might have been watchable if it was their first game. We already know the difference in the two teams is Alabama's lack of a kicker. If I wanted to watch reruns there is always John Wayne or old Husker games on dvd. National Championships should be new opponents.
  11. Uh, Hockey enforcers get tuned up pretty badly. A whole lot worse then a bloody nose. I said "usually". I don't watch much hockey if I can help it. I see a few highlights occasionally. Don't mind fighting but not in a skill sport.
  12. He said that he is incredibly embarassed to be Cincy Head Coach. He also said that he doesn't even know who will be on the team at this point, and that he made his players take off their Cincy jerseys in the locker room since they were doing a terrible job representing the university. I can't reiterate enough how much I respect this man for how he handled this situation. I expect that he will kick 2-3 guys off the team. I agree completely!
  13. In a hockey fight all players are well padded except for their face. The bulky padding somewhat prevents full fledged swings. usually both players know the fight is on and they lock up and little damage is done. An occasional bloody nose. In basketball the players tend to be much bigger than hockey players and they have no padding. A fist from a 6'9 270 pound dude is going to do a lot of damage if it connects....especially to a guy who is just trying to separate other players and isn't expecting a punch. Leave the brawling to the MMA. If this is basketball in the 21st century our society is in trouble. This is disturbing to me because I saw the same attitude a few weeks ago from the Univ of Kentucky players.
  14. Why they gotta be black? They don't gotta be black....but they were. Apparently they saw no problem with the players actions during the game and especially at the end. I see the players are quite proud of their actions. They should be gone for the season as well.
  15. I do hope that suspensions are for more than one or two games. Thug Yancy should be done with college basketball period. I would enjoy seeing him prosecuted by the law. Anyone throwing a punch should have a minimum of 5 possibly ten games. NCAA needs to come down hard on both teams and also the refs....3 black guys.... who never took control of this game and let the thugs brawl.
  16. While I understand that a bowl game here would be a hard sell, I would LOVE to see Miami or Fla St come here and play in 10 degree weather. See what they feel like by the 4th quarter when the sun is going down and the temp is near zero. I want to see the face of their wide receiver when they take a hit to a cold body and feel the sting.
  17. Although this post wasn't about the BCS and the decision that was made to invite Alabama, it seems all threads drift that way sooner or later. Lando....lets say that the night before the BCS game a plane loaded with boosters and coaches wives for Alabama crashes and all aboard are tragically killed. Do you really think the players for Bama would be in a mental state that would allow them to play at a 100% level. Do you think the 2 or 3 hours sleep would be enough to let them function normally? Some probably would but the coaches would be a mess and I'm sure lots of players would loose the emotion needed to play well. Lets reverse the scene and think about OSU and the plane crash that took the lives of 2 coaches, the pilot and his wife. It was the second time in ten years that an OSU plane had crashed killing all occupants. The team and coaches had to board a plane the next day and fly to Iowa. I don't think their mind was 100% on playing a game that day. I think the fact that Alabama had their chance and lost at home negates them from getting a second chance. While I agree they are very good, I'd rather see a great offensive team play LSU and see how they shake out.
  18. LSU, Alabama, Stanford and Oregon seem to be the hot discussion teams this year. It's been a few years since Nebr was in the national discussion. It should be a great game and fans from both sides will have a great time.
  19. Looks like he might want to stick to old ladies and little kids from now on. Karma is a bitch!
  20. And you know for a fact that had that plane never crashed Okie Lite would have beaten ISU? I certainly don't know that as fact. In college football any team can be beaten on a given saturday and the plane crash may not have been a factor. I have to think it was though. There had to be a degree of fear and shock in those players. Players reaction speed and decision making skills are diminished when fear enters the psyche. All it took was for Iowa State to be successful on a couple of drives and OSU to commit a few turnovers and the fear factor that was lurking in those players like the grim reaper took over and the ISU players and coaches knew it. Just because they were human and reacted like humans do doesn't mean they aren't an excellent team.
  21. I thought that was interesting as well. Even Les Miles voted OSU 3rd. Another item I thought was interesting is a quote from a high profile college coach in 2003 I think. It went something like this " A team that doesn't win its league has no business playing in the national championship game". Those words are from none other than Nick Saban.
  22. The NCAA is drastically underfunded for full fledged investigations and I'm not sure they want to investigate their cash cow. The SEC is pulling the train for college football and especially the Bowl Games which began so southern cities could attract northern teams and their fans when the north was deep in the heart of winter. I don't know what a team of private eyes could find but given enough money....which T Boone has plenty of ....I have no doubt something ugly could be found. Even if it is found what if the NCAA refuses to act on it? The only recourse would be congress and while they might welcome an issue that would be popular with the majority of the nation, they might feel it's too hot an issue to deal with.
  23. It has to have some effect since the other 120 some coaches don't have the same facetime exposure. He isn't one of the wildeyed ranting coaches and seems to be well spoken, so I can see why ESPN wants him in front of the cameras. I think ESPN is as much to blame for this issue. I'm wondering if the 2+ billion dollars they just invested in broadcast rights to SEC games might be influencing their decisions about who they promote and who they put on air?
  24. And you know this as fact since you live in Oklahoma and interviewed all the players and did a complete psychological analysis of players and coaches before the game? You are entitled to your opinion but so am I or any other poster on this forum. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
  25. "OSU had their shot, they played awful in Ames. They didn't do that they'd be in the game....." If you had someone you knew who died in a plane crash traveling for a university( who had a previous plane crash 10 years before which killed numerous members of the athletic staff) and you knew the next afternoon you would get on a plane (chartered or owned by that same university)headed for Iowa, do you think you would sleep well? How many hours of sleep do you think those kids got that night? The first half of that game they were running on memory and guts. The second half they ran out of gas and fear took over. Many people said that game should not have been played that weekend. Had it been postponed till after the Oklahoma game, do you think Iowa State would have won the game? People keep saying OSU lost their chance. I say if that game is played any other weekend either before or after , the circumstances would have been different.
