  1. Sure I did but this was a 'some positives' thread. We have pages and pages of the other. But you will admit that the 54 yarder was excellent-right? The best part was how it hooked in after the 1st perfect kick was nullified by a bush league time out.
  2. Nebraska averaged 7.2 yards per carry, and the only scoring drive in the 2nd half was primarily running plays. UCLS shut down the zone read in the 2nd half, but heard had 3 carries for carries for 21 yards with Martinez under center on the scoring drive.
  3. My thoughts toward Martinez is that we need to develop a backup. RK handing off 20 times is not development. Martinez slides and runs out of bounds because the coached think there is no backup, so why didn't RK or Armstrong get meaningful work in game 1?
  4. This is true. NU is playing the same defense that failed last year, there have been no changes on kick coverage, and the backups still get no reps or very limited reps.
  5. I have suggested the same thing in other threads with Seisay, SJB and Cross as LBs. The NU defense has to get faster.
  6. It has always been my opinion that the coaches know way more than message board advisers, but the advise above wins the game against UCLA.
  7. Huh? Not at all. I defended his comments last year from the stand point of them being correct. (never liked him as a hire) Wrong way to get it out ie to the media, but hind sight being 20/20 the guy was spot on. We always say "we don't see what the coaches see" and here is/was a guy that was a coach and made the comments. It probably hastened him to LSU, but it was glaring last night that roughly 66% of our D stunk and he saw a glaring lack of talent. I give the DB's a pass last night. They played well under the circumstances IMO. I agree with you, and as Igetbored216 said above, the problem is more with the front 7. I'm almost to the point where I'd like to see this line-up: ---------- Ankrah--------- Meredith ---------- Caveman ------------- Green-------------------------------------------------------Evans----------------Jean-Baptiste ---------Cooper -------- PJ Smith --------- Compton ----------- H. Jackson -------------------------------- Stafford--------------------------------- I'm not huge on the 3-4, but we don't have the LB/DL talent right now and we have lots of depth in the secondary. I would take that alignment. I would rotate in Seisay and Cross. Cross as OLB.
  8. Just enough to burn redshirts. Heard had only 3 carries against UCLA but averaged 7 yards per carry. Cross may not get another 15 carries all year. I would like to see Cross as OLB.
  9. It's unfortunate, but we really do know how good ucla is....and they are not very. I am pretty confident they will lose 5 games this year....which makes us look even worse. We may not know how good UCLA is, but consider the stats below NU surrendered 653 yards to UCLA Rice surrendered 651 yards to UCLA I don't care how good UCLA is, when NU gives up more yards than Rice there are major problems.
  10. Every year in transitional in college. You lose at least 20% of your team every year. NU needs a system that allows great athletes to get on the field an attack, not lear a system for 2 years until they are ready and then get yelled at on the sidelines for being out of position.
  11. We fault the offense because he committed the two worst mistakes Shawn Watson used to commit: 1) No adjustment. UCLA made adjustments and started bringing pressure. Beck never adjusted. 2) Went away from what was working and tried to make Martinez a pocket passer. The only scoring drive in the 2nd half relied heavily on I-formation power running, and yet Beck had Taylor throw 7 consecutive pocket passes with no play action. The 7th pass was intercepted. Where was Cross? Why did Heard only get 3 carries? Beck could have rotated fresh backs and wore down UCLA. Beck could have called plays to capitalize on UCLA's blitzing. Beck has had 4 games (UCLA, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Michigan) where the defense adjusted at the half and he did nothing. Giving the number of poor teams NU has faced, that is a bad percentage against good competition.
  12. I agree with all the above comments. McBride's scheme was simple and opposing teams hated to face NU. It was pitiful watching slow players trailing 3 yards behind receivers last nigh; almost as bad as watching the D-line line up a yard off the LOS and then put no pressure on the QB. At the half UCLA decided to pressure Martinez. Martinez didn't like it. I don't fault Martinez, I fault Bo for not pressuring UCLA's freshman QB relentlessly.
  13. That is what happens when the coach of a poor DL gets promoted. It kind of reminds me of the corporate world when someone gets promoted just to get them out of a position where they are under performing. Honestly, what did the NU DC do in the past to warrant a promotion?
  14. I am still afraid of a terrible year (terrible defined as less than 8 wins). I have optimism because of last year. I was certain at half time of the Ohio State game that NU was an average team in the same category with Iowa. Then NU won against OHIO and did OK for the rest of the year. This year Beck still seems to lose his mind when calling plays and the NU defense makes Cosgrove look like an improvement. If Michigan gets things straightened out it will be a miserable year here. I live 20 minutes from the Michigan campus.
  15. It's kind of an identity crisis we have at offense. And not necessarily for bad reasons. 1) We have a QB who can actually mechanically and footwork wise throw the football. He can also run the ball. 2) We have incredible depth at the RB position. Some are power (Rex and Imani), some are speedy (Ameer and Braylon). 3) We have receivers that can actually catch the ball. We'd be doing them injustice by having that amount of talent and then not using it at all. I'm fine with the offensive scheme, the way we abandoned the run late in the game is not acceptable, however. It's a learning process, and sometimes you just get hit in the mouth. I'm not happy, I'm disappointed. It's hard to see the good with what transpired on the field. But I hope they take something from this game and move forward. There's still a lot to accomplish this season. It shouldn't be a learning process this long. Saben took a couple beat downs from Nebraska and learned fast. Now he uses McBride's defense and a power running attack.
  16. Super D, the Bullocks, attacking secondary. Need to go back to the Peso and bring up SJB as the Super D stand up hybrid LB/DE. Kid plays with heart and is a beast. And Marvin Sanders. (serious drop off when he left) I hope you're kidding. I mean, the secondary played SO well last year. In coverage, the secondary is fine. Not good, not great. Just fine. The biggest problem is TACKLING! Coaching issue. Absolutely 100% coaching issue. Go back to 1s-on-1s in practice and HIT each other like they're your biggest rival. Absolutely inexcusable football by the Huskers tonight. Answering the question about 2003. Led the nation with 29 INT's IIRC. The secondary was balls out that year. Sanders wasn't here last year. We had Raymond. Sanders last year was 2010 and IIRC we were like #3 in pass defense efficiency. Yea, last year and this we are lacking. We need Sanders back.
  17. That may be the problem. Better talent on the bench. If its not the problem NU is in for a tough few years. By the way, where are the juniors & sophomores? Why are the backups freshmen?
  18. Our new DC is worse than Cosgrove so far. I was hoping that Bo let Carl call the defense last year, and this year Bo would be more involved and things would be back to normal. I couldn't have been more wrong. NU may end up worse than Rice in total defense this year.
  19. Because Beck panics and calls nothing but drop back passes.
  20. What made you know NU would lose? I was afraid of the offense and defense, but UCLA struggled with one of the worst teams in college football. What are you predicting for NUs record this year?
  21. Go away Why does NU need a defensive coordinator? TO was offensive coordinator. The 2011 season and the 2 games this year stink.
  22. You defensive line is a joke. O-Line is bad, but not terrible. Man...don't come on here and state the obvious. The DL is a joke, but it is not very funny to us right now.
  23. Does NU have any interceptions this year? What did Bo do differently in 2003? I hate bend but don't break.
  24. NU was beaten soundly on both lines. This is cause for major concern. Beck panics and relies on drop back passing with no play action. My alcohol bill will be high this year.
  25. Warranted perhaps? Would you rather be Nebraska who just lost to UCLA, or #8 Arkansas who lost to a far inferior Louisiana Monroe, or Wisconsin who lost to OSU? I think our situation is far better than what those teams showcased. It's football - you lose. People need to get over it and be constructive, not freak out. Is Wisconsin losing to OSU any different then Nebraska losing to UCLA? Yes. They went to two BCS games in recent years and have a conference title. And UCLA is a bad team. I think UCLA is worse than OSU. It may be a long year.
