  1. Exactly, well said. We are under no obligation to bow down to any icons as people and as American people. Is there some amount of disrespect happening here, if we take a vote on it and get the majority's opinion? Yes. But this is peaceful protest. For myself, and you all can do whatever you want...but I'm going to be really careful about bringing the election cycle into this conversation. There's a good chance of educating people on just exactly what rights these young men have under the First Amendment here. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a "Trump vs Hillary" thing. This particular message is for everyone.
  2. Agreed. Combining this leverage along with great setups for Tommy's keepers and hard running by our backs are making us almost feel like a different team.
  3. Wisconsin would be #2, probably behind an unbeaten Alabama. They'd be #1 if Alabama loses a game by them. I think we will actually go 7-0, and I think we'll be ranked at probably #11 at that point. Fun thread topic. And I was so wrong about Wisconsin. Michigan State has dropped off at the QB position, but that Wisconsin defense is pretty great.
  4. Historically, and I could be mistaken...but historically, roughly 100% of protests have been made in public. It's kind of the nature of protests. Well, see Kony 2012 or any of the other myriad of internet activism that has taken place over the past 15 years. My point wasn't as literal as it is being taken. The point was these are armchair patriots getting upset about a respectful exercise of civil disobedience and said patriots weren't all worked up over the disrespecting of the flag by thousands of drunken fans that occurs every football weekend. Gotcha. I missed that, thanks for explaining.

  6. Agreed, great post. Come on now. We need the protection of free speech on university campuses right now really badly. This is not a big deal. It just isn't. All of you hardliners saying that this is such an outrage...you realize that you're being the "thought police" on this issue, right? Zoogies, can we please move this to the Politics section?
  7. Agreed, Buster. Preface to this - I echo those same sentiments by Buster. And I think the vast majority of cops do good, and their pay probably doesn't equate to the degree to which their lives are potentially at stake each day. But I have been asking questions for a few years now about whether or not escalation tactics are currently being misused or trained in irrational ways by today's police forces. I honestly don't know the answer, and I'm not even sure how to get good data on it to answer the question. Is it the invention of the dashcam and the fact that everybody has a cell phone to capture every little thing now that inflates the sense that this stuff is happening more nowadays...or is it actually happening more nowadays, where an officer escalates when he/she should have deescalated, etc.? I ask in earnest.
  8. I thought this was a really good post, +1. Agreed about this Kaepernick thing being an intersection of many other things. Question for the class, as I really haven't followed the actual stuff he's been saying extremely closely: Has he endorsed black lives matter?
  9. I think it was for me, also. It was probably even more painful than the 2001 national championship game, because I still had, "Well, at least we won three national championships in the span of the last 7 years." Wisconsin was only in that game because Ohio State was ineligible. We should have won, no excuses. It was the beginning of the end for Bo. Reliving those losses...not fun!
  10. That can depend on the type of read you make. Reading the end tends to be a quicker decision than reading a DT or LB. Plus, when he was healthy, there wasn't another QB in program history that could go from 0-60 as fast as Martinez could. That's what gave it such a boom or bust feel with Martinez, yes. The other thing though is, if your line doesn't pick up it's blocks or gets beat, it's a bust. It's kind of a potential high risk/high reward type of play. At this point, I'd rather just hand the ball off to Ozigbo and let him pound it. Then, sprinkle in the run-pass options and draws for Tommy later in the game. It's a great template for us right now that, when Tommy is limiting mistakes, is making us the best team in the West.
  11. Haven't read through the rest of the replies, maybe others have mentioned this. The zone read play develops really slowly. Partly for this reason, it tends to be a "boom or bust" play. Martinez made this especially true by just being so damn good at running fast in a straight line. When our line blocked that play well and he took the right hole, he was gone. Like, "six points" gone. He did that over and over. Tommy's first couple of steps aren't quite as fast. That's why I like the run-pass option out of the shotgun that's more of a "draw," where no time is wasted standing next to your I-Back and reading the play. He gets the snap and is instantly only focusing on a running lane, not whether he should hand off or keep. Although, it's been said that some of the zone read keepers are actually designed keepers either way; that sometimes there isn't even a "read." So, yeah. I really like the way Langsdorf has used Tommy in what's more of a classic QB draw. I.E., the play that won the game on Saturday.
  12. Losing only to Ohio State in the regular season and going 11-1 is probably a turning point of some kind. Winning a conference title against either Ohio State, Michigan, or Michigan State in Indy is a definite turning point.
  13. It reinforces to me that our offense does have a very particular identity that Riley and Langsdorf have found - Wear the other team out in the fourth quarter. There's no doubt in my mind at this point that they've found the best possible way for our offense to be successful. We didn't have this during the first 2/3 of last season. Now we do. And it feels like a different team.
  14. Good stuff. Definitely Wisconsin. I'll be pretty shocked if they don't lose all three of their next three games.
  15. I feel pretty strongly that Cruz would have a very measurable edge against her right now. I just can't imagine the idiots that went to their primary polling place and chose *Donald Trump* as their first choice candidate. The mind boggles.
  16. Wow, an amazing story. So cool and such a great way to just break up the political narrative. This guy's a hero!
  17. I went ahead and made a gif for this thread for that exact moment, OP: The "no-no" finger. Love it.
  18. Oregon's defense was really worn down by the end of that drive. I'm not downplaying Tommy's speed at all with that comment. I'm playing up how well Langsdorf did to go back to running Ozigbo and Tommy to completely wear them out and drive the dagger in. Was there really a more "Nebraska" way to win that football game than that? Probably not. The best way to match up with an opponent's defensive speed is to just punch em in the mouth. Kudos to our offensive line, Ozigbo, and Tommy for just wanting it more than the other team and driving 80 yards for the win.
  19. Are these fake baseball cards funny to anybody else? https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1639116/wanna-trade-some-baseball-cards
  20. You think this Oregon team isn't very good? You've got to be kidding.
  21. One of these coaches does not belong in this sentence. You have to believe, Landlord.
  22. Good correction - I see that on their 2015 schedule. Thanks.
  23. I'm always for some reason mildly entertained when I see 'the.sock.puppet' is viewing a thread.
