  1. I like the intent of the OP. Honestly, I do. I'm happy to hear it. But I feel like I'm in a small minority that just really doesn't care what Bo says (or does) outside of what happens during the 60 minutes of play. That's where his cohesiveness, intentions, ambition, and production are brought into light. It's also obvious that what he says in pressers is a great scapegoat when times are tough. I really don't understand how fans can do that. That said though, sounds like it was a good one today.
  2. Not really, no. We played the third shift from the Idaho State potato pickers union. They were terrible. Have to wait until after Ohio State.
  3. ROFL. He wouldn't know true conservatism if it spit in his eye.
  4. Here's my take on Tommy: He needs to look at the sheer amount of work Taylor has put into getting to where he's at now. A three year starter can only improve, that much is obvious. But he has worked really, really hard to improve his game. If Tommy works that hard, combining that with what we've seen of his high school film could add up to him being a star. In the meantime, it's going to be an awesome build up for us offensively with a senior Taylor next year. With Abdullah, Heard, Cross, Bell, Enumwa, Westerkamp...if our line holds up and just improves bit by bit, no doubt the best offense in the B1G.
  5. ^^^^Agreed. Also, even though this was Idaho State...Our most consistent offensive play is the power toss. It seems to have replaced the majority of Taylor's option game, and is 300% more effective. It has looked good against every other opponent we've faced so far also. Let's hope we run it a lot against the vaginas. Badgers. I meant badgers.
  6. This is a really important point, completely agree. The winning exposure on TV and everywhere else helps to solidify midwestern recruits that may have chosen another B1G or Big XII school, and brings more draw for the southern/texas/california recruits. It's like the icing on the cake for a four star that's considering coming here, but isn't sure whether or not the spotlight and atmosphere will shine brightly enough on them. If we can't win a conference title in the next couple of seasons, it'll make the journey much tougher than it has even been so far.
  7. You sure do, ronsssssssss. Your avatar is so fuzyy; I can't quite make it out. Is that the Fremont high school second string marching band unit?
  8. 100% agree, robsker. I can't see how anyone could predict that we blow them out. Our dime defense looked good yesterday, albeit against a team not much more talented than a good high school team. We blitzed a lot. We do that, we have a great chance to win. Our rank means absolutely nothing with the stretch we have coming up. Have to beat the cheese packers.
  9. Every length possible? Try this on for size: Acquiring a voter ID card requires getting a blood draw that is then processed by a ridiculously expensive machine that stores your DNA signature on file in your local precinct. But to get the blood drawn, you have to show up with a triple-notarized copy of your birth certificate (which is then filed in triplicate). The birth certificate and notary stamps are verified by local government employees. Then you can show up for the blood draw once this has been verified. You show up to vote with your handy voter ID card. But wait! More blood has to drawn on site at the polling place to match your voter ID to the blood sample on file, which is also incredibly expensive, not to mention time consuming. That might qualify going to "every length possible." Should we do that? Are you afraid that your vote won't count unless you do? No, you aren't. Because you used common sense to arrive at your decision.
  10. This is actually a pretty good hypothetical comparison. Not entirely parallel - because the wiretapping would also basically be a fourth amendment violation, which is not in the voter ID card discussion. People on both sides of this debate have to agree that there are two different issues here. If you can't see them both, then you've got your extra thick prescription strength Emotional Filter glasses on. The two issues are: 1. Common sense 2. Principle In principle, yes - having reasonable methods to ID a registered, qualified voter is legitimate. But if the actual data for past fraud can't warrant the proposed measures, why do it? Personally, I'd be opposed to it in my state (Nebraska) specifically because it would cost me, the taxpayer, money. And if it doesn't pass the common sense test above, that would really piss me off.
  11. So...basically just our actual foreign policy for the past 20 years. Got it. I'm truly saddened by this kind of talk. Not only is it barbaric warmongering, it embodies everything that is sideways with our interventionalist policies.
  12. Which is who, though? Penn State? Iowa? Maybe Michigan State? The teams we don't have much concern over, exactly because they're big and slow. We can probably beat them with any personnel at LB. Ohio State and Michigan will be the toughest for our defense - because they're considerably faster than us. Whaley, Compton, & Fisher have no place on the field for any given amount of playing time against those teams. With that said, this is great news about Cooper.
  13. Bottom line - Our 2009 defense is proof enough that the scheme can work. But if that's the premise, then there's really only one conclusion to the present situation, and that is that our 2008, 2009, and largely the 2010 recruiting classes did not produce defensive linemen (and linebackers) capable of making it work for us now.
  14. Cool story, Niles. This explains all the missed catches...he was getting that slippery nectar all over his gloves. Why Niles. WHY?! Edit: Too soon?
  15. Completely agree there, too. And no - no one in this thread said that minute decrease was significant. But while we're dispelling myths, let's also both agree that Bush did not practice, in any way, "fiscal conservatism." That's part of the problem with the rhetoric that gets tossed around when it merely devolves into a couple party line-towers in a battle of "your side sucks" royale. Bush a fiscal conservative? Hardly. I know you didn't do this, but "conservatism" gets bashed, even when the accuser couldn't even put a definition to it! The vast majority of those in Washington clearly disavow anything construed as fiscal conservatism. It's a smoke 'em if you got 'em, devil may care policy with regards to the budget. On a side note...I more or less told myself I wasn't going to post in here. I haven't spent quite enough time around this community to get the feel for how it debates politics. Just remember - I love the Huskers.
  16. Agreed there. Bush was full of a particularly stupid brand of stupid sauce economically speaking all throughout his presidency, but especially at the tail end. The 2008 - 2009 jump was his. But it was such a ridiculous jump in the first place, that a 1.7% decrease in spending is hardly worth noting. That's the point. Believe me...my comments aren't driven by a need to bash Obama. He does that all by himself. I truly hope there's a trend in decreased spending, regardless of which asshat is at the wheel in the presidency or regardless of which collective group of asshats controls a majority in congress.
  17. Are you calling two years worth of data a "trend"? Not only is that a 16% jump in spending from 2008 to 2009 (which is the biggest proportional ratio in the graph), but the ratio of spending to revenue itself is staggering. Could it be the start of a trend? Possibly. But is a decrease in spending from that extremely high ratio jump from 2008 to 2009 really telling of anything significant? That's probably subjective. Translation: We're now in the business of printing money. Both sides of the partisan aisle are essentially in complete agreement that this is a good thing. History seems to have proven otherwise.
  18. Oh, good...because we were all dying to know what you "instantly thought" about Bobby Newcombe, and what fantastic ways you could contrive to hijack a thread with your pleasantness.
  19. Soccer. And I took it very seriously. Probably too seriously. One semester we had an indoor team that could have won it all, and people didn't show up for the first round of the playoffs. We lost. It still hurts lol.
  20. I know, that does sound tempting. Late nights at Cook, the campus/student vibe at the Rec, the sheer number of hot chicks working out (don't tell my wife I said that )...pretty awesome.
  21. Being from Lincoln, my parents wouldn't have paid for me to live in the dorms. So I lived at home for most of my time at UNL. Wasn't a bad situation. Then moved to a house with some dudes at about 70th & Cotner. It was a pretty good distance from campus, but I threw a bike in the hatchback of my car (*tear*, I miss that Camaro) and would park on 'R' street and then ride in from there. A little geeky, I know, but it was pretty convenient. And free. Sidenote: I miss the Rec so much. Easily the thing I miss most about UNL itself. Running in Cook Pavilion was an awesome work out, seeing the banners of our titles. Playing intramural sports there, etc. Really miss that.
  22. Not a good way to start the morning... Keep the faith, Z. You're going to be a star here.
