  1. Seriously, I'm guessing you are actually Newcombe (or at least a relative of Bobby).
  2. Better than a Heisman trophy winner? Is there any chance that you are Newcombe himself?
  3. To me, it all goes back to changing the bodies. It's going to take more than one year to get back to where we used to be. With that tough schedule, if we have a winning record and go to a bowl game, I'd be happy enough for next year.
  4. That was so hard to watch. F… Robbie Hummel. I don't know which Illinois player he's banging, but he was a homer bitch for them. I couldn't stand listening to him.
  5. I think that might have been true earlier when he was thinking about quitting, but the boys are playing great together now, and Jordy is contributing. Get on board!
  6. I hope you're wrong. 22-9, 13-5 has to be enough.
  7. I'm missing something. You say we're not a stellar conference, but our top 3 will get high seeds. That in itself should get the Big Ten five teams. Michigan won tonight. If we go 3-1 down the stretch, I say we're in. They can't put Michigan in and not us when we beat them by 20, can they?
  8. I agree with your first point, but if I had to play the game, I'd say Les Miles, since his kid is already on the team.
  9. I miss the Big 12. (Truth be told, I miss the Big 8.) We left that conference because Texas was taking over, but we have NO influence in this conference. The special time for the Thanksgiving Weekend has been a cherished tradition in my family for years, but now it's gone.
  10. Agreed. No way that type of season puts Riley on a "scorching" hot seat. After the type of prognostication going on nationally about the Huskers, I think most fans would happy with the outcome described by Landlord. At what year do we need to win the west then? Just keep going 10-3 and losing to our biggest west competition and Riley continues to be our coach? There is such an easy answer to this question. "At what year" is the year that all of the players are players that he recruited. When the quarterbacks (and of course other players) he recruited have played their entire careers here, if we haven't won at least the Big Ten West, he will be on the hot seat.
  11. Neither. 10-3 with losses to OSU, Wisconsin and Iowa and Riley's seat will be scorching. 0-6 against Wiscy and Iowa is not okay. There is such a weird disconnect between the national media and some Husker fans. They say we're going to go 6-6, and you'd be unhappy with 10-3? Who is correct?
  12. I like two things here. First, don't forget about how Bo poisoned the well for our players before he left. Riley walked into a toxic situation here. He will need time to flush out all of the Bo-loving, Huskerfan-haters. That us-against-the-world mentality was exactly the opposite of what a coach should try to do at Nebraska, where we love our team with all of our hearts. Secondly, we beat Dabo in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 1, 2009. Bo declared that we were back! I bet Clemson is glad that they gave Dabo time to develop the program. They just beat Alabama for the natty, and they were worse than us 8 years ago!!!!!!
  13. What you say about the Royals reminds me of the Huskers. Both were great for a while, and then, both seemed like they would suck forever; both come from small markets, and it seemed like the deck was stacked against them, but then, the Royals just won the World Series recently. How did they do that? How did they win the World Series against the big clubs that had all of the money? They built the program from the ground up. The Huskers could rise again. We have the fan base and the assets. We need the right coach to build the right program. I hope that is Mike Riley. Speaking of Riley, who went to Alabama, the Tide, for the most part, sucked after Bear Bryant. They went through Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, Gene Stallings (one natty), Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione, and Mike Shula, before they found the right coach - Nick Saban (whose ass we kicked 50-10 when he coached at Mich. St.) College Football is cyclical. We can be great again. I'm still mad at Tom for retiring. As long as that glorious man is drawing breath on this planet, he should have been coaching Nebraska Football. :-)
  14. I just think that this senior class has unperformed. Out of 20 guys, only 9 or so have contributed on the field in any significant manner. I can't wait to get those scholarships back and to give them to guys who are going to help our program. Maybe, they had injuries and problems and such, and I wish them all the best, but it supports my point, even more so, that Riley deserves at least five years to clean out the roster and establish his program. This is why I think Tim Miles should be on a hotter seat than Riley. Miles is going on Year 6, but it seems like we're getting worse.
  15. I absolutely think we can be great again. We have loyal fans who sell out the stadium, set records for volleyball games, and even get five digits to watch the basketball team. Our program has many assets. This place can be special again. We need a great coach with a great scheme and who can keep a loyal staff together. I'm so glad that we didn't kick out Osborne in 1977. We need some patience. It was 23 years between 71 and 94, and it's been 20 years between 97 and now. What we need to STOP doing is having a revolving door for coaches. How many DB coaches have we had in the last five years? How are we supposed to establish a program or a scheme with a new coach every year? Where is George Darlington!? I hope Mike Riley is the man. He says the right things about our history. He seems to be recruiting well. He is only now just replacing the players in the old scheme with the players for his scheme. You have to at least allow his recruits to graduate before you can evaluate his program.
  16. It seems like we have ten pretty solid offensive lineman. Do you agree?
  17. I know that Natter is hurt. I don't know about Brokup, but he's only a RFr. The other three I listed are juniors or above. Is Darlington not going to be the holder? He played in the bowl game last year as holder and quarterback. I was there! Harrison Jordan was on last year's depth chart as a junior fb. He didn't make the 105 this year, but he's still on the roster. That's weird. Is true freshman Ben Miles really going to play over a senior? Taylor was always hurt, but I'm still surprised that he didn't make the 105 as a senior. What does he do all day?
  18. Do you think this means that he won't be suspended?
  19. How can this be true when Stovall is not on the 105 roster?
  20. Does anyone know what happened to Z. Darlington, A. Taylor, and/or H. Jordan. These are all experienced guys who are not on the 105 fall camp roster.
