  1. 4 years from now it might be a walk in the park. Never know. Yet people complain that we don't schedule tough enough OOC opponents when those are usually done farther out than that.
  2. Also, there is a reason why very few colleges have dedicated QB coaches. No, that doesn't mean we can't but you only have so many spots to go around. Very few have one and the ones that do is usually because the head coach is the offensive coordinator. And I'm not a Barney apologist but he still works with the OLine a lot as well. If we get rid of him to hire a dedicated QB coach, we'll have an OC, QB coach and (possibly) GA working with one position on the field while having one coach and whatever other GAs working with five positions on the field. Those numbers don't make a lot of sense to me.
  3. Why is that? It's not like we've had stellar QB play in the recent history. I'm not necessarily advocating for a QB coach to be hired - but a lot of the things we've lacked in the last few years could have been addressed by a good one. Plugging in freshman QBs without a dedicated coach is a tall order for the OC. Where Tommy ends up in his senior year will be very dependent on the coaching he receives his first few years. I'd see having one on a staff as an investment in our younger QBs future. I think the point is it's just something to complain about while ignoring what actually goes on. Beck is the QB coach. Yes, he has more responsibility than the rest of the position coaches but people seem to be assuming he's doing nothing with the QBs while the other position coaches are working with their position groups. Plus we have a GA - who many would like to hire as a QB coach - working exclusively with the QBs. Is he suddenly going to do a significantly better job coaching because his title changes?

  5. Steven M. Sipple ‏@HuskerExtraSip 24m24 minutes ago I hear Tim Beck get criticized for saying NU "over-coached" players for MSU. Think if he said they "under-coached" the guys. Just sayin'
  6. Is most of this based on Fiala's comment? Because, while I like him, I wouldn't consider him the most knowledgeable source. Nor the most eloquent speaker.
  7. .... and they have their toughest game of the year this week.
  8. I'm not so sure. We're a little crowded at QB right now anyway and we're still looking for another one this year. Plus, we already have one QB who is a little bit on the raw side and one former walk-on. If we take Dillman at QB and another one, that would be seven scholarship QBs and none of them graduate for at least two years. That seems excessive to me. I would say we'll be honest with him about him playing TE, especially since he's already playing that position some now. There has been speculation over the past month that he won't end up here anyway. If he's fine with the switch to TE, he has a spot. If he only wants to play QB, he probably goes somewhere else.
  9. Callahan had an interesting observation on Big Red Wrap-up this week. He noted that the Huskers sent Barney Cotton to visit Dillman over the bye week. Since Cotton doesn't recruit Texas, is our TE coach and Dillman has been playing TE, Callahan is pretty convinced that if Dillman ends up here he will be playing TE. Seems pretty plausible to me. The only caveat I'd throw in there is usually Beck recruits Texas and QBs but he didn't go on the road last week so it's possible that Cotton was filling in for him. Will be interesting to see how it develops.
  10. A&M already has a four-star RB committed and not a lot of spots left. Kendall Sr. said they are looking at a couple other options just in case but the only way he doesn't end up in Lincoln is if Pelini and the staff are gone.

  14. He appears to be a 3-for-2 guy but I'm not sure. Originally Class of 2013 so he should have three years left. Assuming he's played both years at JUCO he'd be 3-for-2.

  19. As I've said several times, our games against Northwestern have been close on the scoreboard, but that's mainly because we've played down to them.
