  1. Maybe he was injured and he loafed through the seaskn but he's no clowney. If that's what was really going on, it gives a good insight into the mind of a elite college football athlete. Thinking about their "brand." Ugh.
  2. It's really a shame that the guy gets condemned for standing by his religious beliefs. For some reason it's okay to be religious Christian as long as you keep it quiet. Christians claim to be lead by Christ and His word is the Bible. If it says something is wrong, then you don't condone it. Ron Brown speaks out on what his Bible says is wrong. The guy doesn't go out and hunt down and eliminate people over it. Just seems that Christianity gets lumped into Muslim terrorism as an equal bad thing. It's okay for gay rights to force their views down everyone's throats but it's not okay to disagree. Somebody explain why that is? More and more people are shacking up and NOT getting married yet it's such a big deal for two members of the same sex to get married. Now me personally, I take issue with gay marriage because my Bible says it's a sanctified union...I also disagree with divorce but again...the Bible. I don't judge or condemn people that believe otherwise because that's not my role. As far as the United States and it's policies go, people are free to live their lives but when their decisions begin to affect others then we have to call into question those choices and decide if they are appropriate or not. This country is a democracy. The majority rule is supposed to be the way things work. Instead we have a handful of judges overruling the majority because they supposedly know better. I would fully expect a country founded on Christian principles to take issues with things that go against those principles. The country may be changing but it's not there yet. What does this have to do with the new WR's coach?
  3. #butthurt? Take it easy dude. I think the stats speak to the depth issue. We had the same problems closing out games over the last couple years because of key injuries.
  4. Riley has said before that they only have about 5-6 run plays and they mix that in with play action. Whatever you call the offense, it will be a reflection of the talent.
  5. I think the conversation on whether Beck was a good OC can only be analyzed in terms of NU. I've read reports by coordinators who have worked for Meyer saying that the overall scheme comes from Meyer and that he has a pretty iron tight grasp on the philosophy of the offensive system. Play calling is obviously a separate part but to say that Beck will come in and change the system based on what did or didn't work at NU is just false. If Beck does well at OSU, it will be because he adapted to Meyer's system, not Meyer adapting to Beck's system.
  6. Urm, no. Orgeron = one of the best recruiters in the country and a coach that knows how to balance "fire" with actual coaching. He expressed interest in coming here in some capacity and yet we hired people for whom we'll have to take a wait-and-see approach with fingers firmly crossed. Nothing possessive, entitled, or unrealistic about being bummed that we did not get a highly talented coach that expressed interest in coming here. People want jobs all of the time. Everyone is making it sound like Orgeron was interviewing Nebraska and other schools and then making his pick among a multitude of choices. If he's such a good coach and recruiter, why hasn't he coached since he was at USC? Generally speaking, the sling blade voice and attitude doesn't mesh well with Riley's personality. Y'all need to move on.
  7. Pelini seemed to get caught up in his masterful scheme used in the Big 12 days, when there was no qb run game to worry about, and very little run game period. We played offenses who slung it around 50 times a game. we could line up 4 down, tee off, and sit 7 in coverage, after hours of film study, and know each team's every tendancy, route concept, check, and skillset. Theres so many instances in 2009 and 2010 where it's clearly obvious that each and every one of our 7 db's/backers knew what routes were coming before the snap. This made our matchup coverage like a blanket. And it wasnt bend dont break, it was shut down. Then the big ten came along and from team to team there was variety of different systems. There was spread with qb run. there was convential with power. Mobile qb's. Running qb's. New teams to get acclimated too. And for whatever reason, it seemed like the adjustment was never made. there was a tidbit about Dave Arranda (Wisconsin DC) in a think it was during the Wisconsin game about his defensive philosophy coming from the Pac12 when he was asked about transitioning to the BigTen and he was quoted as saying "you have to get a safety down the the line, and you gotta get 8-9 in the box and stop the run first and foremost. Nothing else matters if you cant stop the run" or something along those lines. This was a tenured Pac12 guy that used 3 man rush to defend wide open spreads that knew what had to be done without coaching a down in the Big10. So I'm just mind boggled by the overall lack of adjustment by our staff in 4 seasons in the new conference. Troof. This was evident in our first year in the B1G. The only thing I would add to this analysis is that overall adaptation seemed difficult. Case and point: UCLA. Twice. It all steamrolled from their inability to adapt, the defense looked like garbage, Bo melted down on the sidelines, the mental aspect of the team crumbled, and here we are.
  8. There's some subtext that I've been noticing on the hires Riley's made. They all appear to very well liked and appreciated by their coaches and the community from which they came. The subtext that I see is that they also appear to be stud recruiters. Evidence for this is the hiring of Warren. It was no secret that Bo hired Warren, in part, for his ability to recruit the southwest and that immediately yielded commitments. Warren was also a good coach - the secondary had the lowest completion rate in the country. All of the coaches he's hired have worked for him in the past. What separates this current staff from the one Riley's had in the past is that he has the resources to pay assistants that are not only great assistants but great recruiters. I've seen video of all of these coaches and I can see how each one of them would bring a different appeal to the different recruits they're approaching. If this is true and they can sign legit recruits, and their talent development is as good as we've all been lead to believe, Mike Riley with a full cupboard sounds very, very promising.
  9. I like this idea. It seems that some of the key players in MSU's defense are the safeties. I think Gerry and Alexander position us well to handle that stress.I actually thought Gerrys over aggression got him burned too many times this year. So he's no good and shouldn't start?

  11. What proof of this do you have? I ask because this sounds like Osborne was forced out and Osborne himself has gone on record to say he wasn't forced out. osborne went on record saying the only possible thing he could say in that sitatuation. pelini was on record saying something different. not saying either is true, but i don't think pelini would just make that crap up, and i wouldn't expect osborne to every confirm it as fact. Some people here have trouble reading between the lines. Osborne was probably brought in to "right the ship" after the Steve Peterson experiment ran off the rails probably less so then he was brought in to save Perlman's ass from all the pitchfork wielding fans and boosters for making that hire, giving everyone contract extensions, etc. Then once things calmed down and Perlman decided Bo had to go in comes another puppet that was hired without consulting or any involvment by the current interim AD, who is a living legend in that place, and he gets phased out so HP could push his agenda without someone above football who could actually push back at all. So no, the Chancellor shouldn't be judged on Athlectics usually excepting that he keeps sticking his nose in them. That's why if Coach Riley ends up with a similar record here to his long history of mediocrity in Corvalis Perlman will need to get canned along with the rests of the staff and AD. Nobody is rooting for that, but that'll be the reality of the situation if the program needs saving again. Otherwise we'll just keep letting Perlman repeat the same cycle that's already kept the program down for over a decade now. Osborne was "probably brought in to right the ship"? Really? That's exactly why he was brought back in as interim AD after Pedersen was fired. Again, I'll ask why Osborne needs to be consulted for every decision concerning the football team? And exactly what is this agenda Perlman is pushing? Perhaps because he was in the job that was being filled and has a long history in athletics and had basically been running that part of the job in football since before devany left, because he built the thing to what it was when it was at it's best, or because he calmed the boosters that would've taken HP down too by coming back. Not saying he should have had final say, but you know getting his opinion of candidates during the process wouldn't have been a bad thing, even if it was ignored at least it would be respectful. What proof of this do you have? It's ironic that your user name is methodical when your logic is anything but. What agenda are you talking about? If you're going to make accusations you need to articulate Pearlman's vision. Since you can't, maybe you should just stop posting or get over your feelings being hurt. The words in bold seem like exactly what you're rooting for. The adhominem attacks for anyone that doesn't go along with the groupthink on this site is why the posters with good info have left this site years ago. Mine's second hand because I've been around long enough to know who to listen to. And we're all Nebraska fans here, nobody is rooting for the team to take a step back. Some of us are just pointing out that should it become necessary to rid ourselves of another Peterson/Callahan level f-up, the problems will have started from the top down and that's where the cutting will need to start. I simply pointed out that if you're going to espouse conspiracy theories, you need to articulate the vision of those who you feel are conspiring against the program. What sense does it make for Harvey Pearlman to intentionally tank the football program? It subsidizes the rest of the sports programs. You say groupthink, I say rational posters and observers. You say ad hominem, I say defend your logic. Knapp is right, there's great info here all of the time. If you feel it necessary to accuse people disagreeing with you of groupthink, then maybe it's time for you to evolve your beliefs. Typically when one person is saying one thing and multitudes of people are saying the other, the multitudes might actually be right.

  13. Again, what situations were botched? Maybe hiring an AD with no previous experience at hiring coaches. False. Knapp and Headley Lamar hit the nail on the head, though. The whole reason for an athletic department is so athletics are separate from academics. The two mingle because of the nature of the student athlete; but to simply say that because there are questions about the timeline of hiring Osborne and Eichorst means Pearlman is terrible is small minded and lazy.
  14. I've said this for years. With as cool, smart, and athletic as Rex is, it's almost a guarantee that he's swingin some pipe.
  15. Dude, you're just another one of the delusional fans that think they can call the shots better than the administration. Nebraska doesn't have an Harbaugh floating around in the nfl. Who would you have wanted as a hc and who do you think should he his staff? Get over this "waiting for a home run assistant" because no matter who they pick, if it's not someone you want, it's a failure. If oregon is so good, why doesn't he have a job? You're missing out on the nuance that comes with major decisions. Id bet you're pretty dense when it comes to all facets of your life and I'm glad I don't know you.
  16. Oregons offense is a up the guy running attack that sets up play action. The speed of their team and the pace at which they move makes the difference. There's no reason nebraaka can't do the same without Scott frost.
  17. I haven't read this entire thread because I think it's stupid and unnecessary. The thing that I've realized from all of these haters is that they're all "30+ year fans," "done their research," or "have been thinking." What they fail to mention is credibility. There is none. We don't know how riley or his staff will do but that's the fun of the new season or coaching. You have an opinion? Fine. Just realize no one respects it for more than cannon fodder so just stop or go start a thread of haters.
  18. I could never understand why bo lost players every year from the prior years draft class. Happens every year and it's never made sense to me.
  19. Ed Orgeron. End of list. I know people like to throw this name out and I admit he would be exciting and would get after it recruiting wise. But with all that said, why hasn't he landed any other job yet? Because of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HThi74D-ygA
  20. I've thought this all season. The plays are there. The athletes are there. They just seem so scared of becoming predictable that they lose track of what they're good at. I also thought the players "B0" stickers were classless displays created by cornfed meatheads. It was just dump.
  21. I like that Mick Stoltenberg was also mentioned in that article. He's gotten a lot bigger this year. 6'5 265. He put on some lbs from when he initially reported and from some of the practice videos I've seen, the kid has a motor.
  22. Or he's just unsure of his future after a coaching change? I see no reason to make him look the bad guy. Everyone knew if Bo was gone his commitment would be in question. My point is that there's no reason for the sideshow if he's not changing his commitment. Why draw the attention unless you're gonna drop a bombshell? Its a once in a lifetime thing, why not do the hat thing? He's earned it. Told you.

  24. Is there any real chance we keep Bussey? Whats the reason for the parade if he's just going to say he's continuing his commitment to Nebraska? He's either decomitting, or is using the coaching change to draw attention to himself. I don't like either of those qualities.
