  1. So was Tom tom was a once in a lifetime coach. bo is not tom. stop with the comparisons. just because everything ended up working out with tom does not mean it will with bo and it should not preclude criticisms of bo because tom, apparently, faced similar criticisms. same with frost. just because tom was a first time head coach does not mean every first time head coach will be a success. that is preposterous. they are different people with different situations. everyone, please stop with incessantly bringing the tom comparisons into these conversations. Exactly! And I really hate the comparisons of Bo to Devaney. But I also see why so many would like to see Scott Frost end up coaching us. I'm still a little embarrassed about that plea he did at the end of the OB after Tom's last game, but he was young. Why? He spoke the truth...and with passion. The best was when Peter offered to play against Michigan in his own back yard and provided the address. Being in the stands at Pro Player stadium and listening to Scott Frost's postgame speech is one of my absolute favorite college memories.
  2. Did they hire one of our former GA's who couldn't get a job at NU or something?
  3. Well, in that scenario, a second SEC team could certainly get the nod, we've seen that before. But these are teams with the same record, and you'd have to look at more than just that. But that's not what you were arguing a few posts ago. You screamed about a 1 loss SEC team jumping an undefeated team. Are you abandoning that notion now? I hope so.
  4. Bur seriously, your BJJ and sparring is going to be great exercise, I honestly don't think the treadmill is going to give you what you're looking for, but anything that will keep up your activity level is good for you as long as you can stick with it and build up from there. Eat a lot more veggies. I'm not an expert by the way, but anything you can stick with long-term will be good, it's about self-discipline more than anything.
  5. You may or may not be able to get in better shape if you follow Coach Dobson's program. The jury is currently out if you haven't noticed.
  6. That's pretty close-minded. Has an undefeated team from a BCS conference ever been held out of the Championship game in favor of a 1 loss team from the SEC? the answer is no. ESPN can talk about it all they want, and they probably do have more influence than they should. We've seen debates because certain undefeated teams get the shaft in favor of other undefeated teams, and the same with multiple one-loss teams. But a one loss has never jumped an undefeated. I think the closest it came was in '99 when our own team almost jumped over Virginia Tech. Also an undefeated SEC team (Auburn) was held out of the Championship game a few years back as well (2004ish if I recall).
  7. This. Now just think if Beck would stick to the run and wear down the opponent's defense. Instead of pulling together last minute drives to win games, we could pull together last 5 minute drives to ice the clock, eat up yards, and get insurance points if needed. I often think of the 95 Orange Bowl against Miami as the perfect example of NU football for many reasons, but to apply it to the S&C discussion, you could say that performance on the field, regardless of how good or bad S&C may be, takes quality coaching to go along with it. Back then, our S&C was world class, and Osborne used that to his advantage in coaching the game. We spent 3 quarters trailing Miami but continuing with the game plan, running the ball, and wearing them down. The combination of coaching and S&C worked to perfection in the 4th quarter of that game. I agree that Beck could learn a thing or two from that.
  8. This succintly sums up what I was trying to say as well.
  9. It seems that the opinions about Dobson and S&C have evolved similarly to thoughts on the rest of the coaching staff. Enthusiasm for Pelini and Co. started to level off in 2012 and has dwindled this year. It's difficult to pin the team's performance on S&C any more than specific coaching techniques or execution by the players. When Callahan formed his staff, Coach Kennedy came with a lot of high praise and national respect, and I recall a lot of reports and comments in Callahan's first couple of years that the players were in better shape than we've ever seen them, and Coach K was working them all super duper hard. Well, it turned out that Coach K's program at NU sucked. Hard work in the weight room and on the track alone do not make a good football player. But even worse than Coach K's S&C program was Callahan's coaching. I enjoy learning about S&C topics, but it's difficult to tell in a vaccuum if Dobson has the secret to success that other S&C coaches don't, or if he is just another hack. I bet we would all be happier with the team's S&C if the game day coaching was better and we won more games. I've often thought that many of NU's players, OL and DL in particular, do not have the "look" that other teams have or that NU teams of the past had (skinny arms and jiggly guts), but at the same time, we have won a LOT of games that required digging deep in the 4th quarter to pull out a win. We all want our players to be faster, stronger, and leaner, but whatever frustrations we have with this team and this coaching staff, I for one would put Dobson's abilities low on the list of concerns. We just don't know enough about what they do.
  10. The thing I appreciate most about this chart is that, despite being very close neighbors, no Nebraska kid is currently stooping to the shameful level of going to KU for football.
  11. Also, Baylor has not played for a Conference Championship Baylor has WON a Conference Championship.
  12. Catch Me If You Can has a lot of the important scenes taking place on Christmas. My wife and I include it in our annual holiday rotation (so I can put off horrible horrible movies like "The Holiday" and "Family Stone" which my wife tends to enjoy). I'm a big fan of Scrooged, too. When it comes to the old TV classics, I like Charlie Brown and Rudolph - introduced those to my kids this year, it was fun.
  13. How could they go to the effort of splicing that together and not put in a classic sideline tirade from Bo?
  14. I've read a lot of your posts, and I think this is false.
  15. Your write up did not include anything about Dorothy, munchkins, or the wicked witch. But otherwise very nice. Now I'll need to listen to the album again today. One of the greats!
  16. I'm never sure if I just need the week to end so I can have a couple days off, or if I need the week to be longer so I can get more done. Either way...stress > sleep.
  17. I lived in Jacksonville several years ago for 5 months on a work assignment. I sure as hell wouldn't pay real money to go there again. Jacksonville doen't have much to offer. Also, I'm sure Husker fans are saving up for the inevitable national championship game that a significant portion of Huskerboard members believe Pelini will soon take us to.
  18. Yeah, but it doesn't matter when you're that good. That's why he's starting in the NFL. Starting in the NFL? Who are you talking about?
  19. I think Pelini still would have gotten the job, unless LSU made a better offer and promoted him to HC in Miles' place. The Miles to Michigan rumors happened at the same time that LSU was getting ready for the championship game, while NU was also firing Callahan. As soon as Pederson was fired, it was a foregone conclusion in many fans' minds that Callahan would follow at the end of the season, and Pelini and Gill were immediately the popular choices are far as fan speculation went, even before anyone knew LSU would be in the title game. When Pelini was hired, Osborne mentioned that one of the main factors in hiring Pelini over Gill was that it was the defense that needed the greatest overhaul. Whether or not LSU made the title game did not change that. Pelini still would have been here.
  20. I'm not a Bo-liever, but I have been in awe of what Bo and his staff have been able to pull off on the recruiting trail lately, and it's making me feel better about him. When Callahan was embattled during his final year, we had a good recruiting class that crumbled in a major way, even before his firing was a done deal. With Bo facing negative speculation about his rumors, the class did not fall apart, and now we've got some major momentum and some folks who may be able to come in right away and help us win. If Bo knows his back is against the wall, it seems like he also is putting the pieces together to fight back out, and make some of us believers again.
