  1. Are you saying some folks would be pissed off if we won this game? Why?
  2. Question #1: A and B. Every team, even the best ones, has to put up with these losses from time to time, you just can't win them all. But what hurts is when it happens consistently. Nebraska routinely gets blasted by the better teams we face, and we routinely poop down our leg against a mediocre opponent every year. With these losses, either A or B, but 3 or 4 of them every season being a certainty, the total effect is damagine because we will not be taken seriously as a championship contender. Question #2: B, no doubt. It has been so long that Nebraska has had a victory that really made the nation pay attention. Even Bo's best wins against big name teams came in down years for those programs, or against Top 10 teams (Okie State and Mizzou in 2010) were not really household names as big time programs, regardless of their ranking. The problem that we are running into (for many fans) is that every time we play a bog game now, we tend to fear the inevitable blowout rather than be excited for the possibility at a signature win. The odds just haven't been in our favor.
  3. In a couple of months, I'm going to be participating in a charity event in which I will be one of several men posing as "contestants" in a sort of beauty pageant/drag show wearing dresses and wigs. I'll need to develop a stage name and biography for my character. The format of the show has yet to be totally determined, but if there is a performance piece to it, I would like to rock out karaoke style if I have the chance. Can you guys help me develop my stage persona? I'm thinking of a classic rock n' roll chick, something along the lines of Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, or Debbie Harry. I need a stage name and a back story. Also, I don't know if I would be able to do any sort of karaoke singing or anything, but I'm trying to think of some classic female rock songs that really kick ass, at least to help work into my character's attitude. I'll be going up against local celebrities of sorts (news and radio personalities, city council members, etc) and will be kind of an underdog but since I'm doing this thing, I wanna win it. Help me out!
  4. As fans, we hope beyond hope every single year that we will win championships. Conference champiosnships en route to national championships en route to reclaiming our glory years. In our heads, most of us can even rationalize week to week through the year how the team will win and get to the top of the mountain. But wanting something and actually really thinking that it will happen are totally different things. I appreciate the optimism of most of the fans and have had my own share of kool-aid over the years, but if a third of the members of this board legitimately believes that Pelini will win a National Championship at Nebraska, then I'm sorry to say that a third of this board is legitimately bat$h!t crazy and detached from reality.
  5. Dan Hawkins will be watching to see how this turns out.
  6. Time to start a new rumor campaign. Try this one: You can't spell Boise without Bo.
  7. We should start a new thread in order to answer this question... But first, we need to gather some fresh opinions on whether or not Pelini should be fired and whether or not Martinez is a good QB.
  8. So we are too beat up at the end of the season to compete with the likes of Iowa, and your solution is to play Wisconsin that week instead? Wasn't last week already ugly enough?
  9. The truth is, Nebraska doesn't have any actual rivals at this point. A rivalry isn't just created out of thin air. Texas has owned us. We don't play OU anymore. Colorado, Mizzou, and K St had their moments but never developed into any longterm mutual excitement, and they are gone now anyway. We've been in the Big Ten for 3 years and haven't properly developed any big rivalries with anyone yet. The potential is there down the road for a few schools, but all of the old Big Ten teams already have their longstanding rivalry. We just don't have one right now.
  10. I know there are a lot of threads about this topic, and I haven't read them all, so this comment may be useless: But I don't think Bo needs to actively recruit the fans, he just needs to stop making a spectacle of being an ass and the negative nellis among us (including myself) will come back around. We thought he had done that prior to audiogate this year, and then of course his asshettery at and after the Iowa game. Bo does a lot of good things that get overshadowed by his prickly demeanor, but the kind of unprofessional immature hotheadedness that he has developed a reputation for simply needs to be controlled. That behavior is uncalled for and is terminable in just about any other professional work environment. And he doesn't win enough to overcome that shortcoming. Osborne didn't kiss the fans asses, either, and he was known to be a pain in the ass to refs on the sideline, but even when he couldn't win the big one yet, people always had a good feeling about him, and even though Osborne always had his critics, he carried himself with more than enough class and dignity to create a lot of goodwill. When you saw Osborne on campus, he would smile and say hello and keep walking. That doesn't take any more time or effort than being an ass. Bo is not a bad coach, and I'm not personally convinced that Nebraska will ever again be able to find a coach that is consistently going to win double digit games and championships every year. But I'm sure we could find plenty of coaches who could win 8 games per year and not come off as a prick. Long story short, a slight personality adjustment from Bo (that was permanent and sincere) would shield him from a lot of criticism and would "recruit" goodwill from the fans without too much time and energy expended.
  11. This, plus show Lil Red's antics on the big screen, next to a decible meter. Along with a message proclaiming that if the stadium reaches 130 db, someone will stab Lil Red with a large pair of scissors.
  12. If you zoom in on the picture, you can see that it is not a play chart at all. It is actually an enemies list. The yellow box contains people who he will personally kill this year, the blue box has folks who will be contracted out, and the one name in the red box is Dirk Chatelain.
  13. Good call - I added Special Teams to the poll, as well as an option for negative nancies like me who don't expect anything big.
  14. So with Bo sticking around in 2014, do we actually expect significant improvement? The subjects listed in the poll are issues that have been apparent not just this year, but topics of discussion since Bo arrived (just off the top of my head). It seems to me that penalties actually improved this season, and recruiting is not going too badly all things considered, but how much improvement can we expect moving forward? Why do you think so? My pessimistic opinion is that not much is going to change, and we'll be stuck in this exact same place next year. But I didn't want to start another useless thread giving my opinion of Bo staying or leaving. So I started this useless poll instead. I'm interested to see what everyone's expectations are for next year.
  15. I agree with this. We've suffered through many worse calls than this all season long, including some that were absolute travesties. It was questionable enough for any coach to argue about it a little bit, but for Bo to become completely unhinged from it and make another sideshow of himself was uncalled for. Figure in the comments at the press conference and the fine was a no-brainer. Probably even deserved a bigger fine, imo.
  16. Steamed broccoli, possibly with cauliflower as well, with cheese sauce melted over it.
  17. One time when I was picking up my wife from the Admin Building on campus to get her fricking PhD certified and finalized, I pulled up and stopped in a reserved space for a grand total of one minute while my wife walked to the car. Turns out the reserved space was for the Chancellor, but it was late in the afternoon and it was only for a minute so I wasn't worried. As I backed out, a car was pulling into the lot at the same time. It was Harvey. He had an annoyed look on his face. So yeah, he needs to go.
  18. Alexander made a couple tackles, particularly that open-field tackle on the jet sweep mentioned in the OP, that have too often this year been missed tackles by other players and turned into huge gains. I liked what I saw out of this kid Saturday.
  19. I wouldn't worry about it at all. If a coach needs to be fired, whether or not it would lead to a couple good players transferring out should be irrelevant to the decision. The right coach means more to any program than a handful of players. But its likely a moot point anyway.
  20. That play was lousy and the excuses are lousy. I almost thought that this Corey was named McKeon instead of Cooper. The guy's legs needed to be stopped, and there was no effort at that in this attempted tackle or "push" or whatever. But I'm glad we won.
  21. Seriously? Beating a 6-5 Penn State team in overtime, that has losses to Indiana, & Minny is all it took to change your mind? Every issue that has plagued this team for 3 seasons was right there, front and center trying to lose us a game we should have dominated. We're a 3 inch wide extra point attempt away from a loss and yet you're on the Bo-wagon because there's another W in the column? Come on man, quit flip flopping. The damn special teams play is enough for me to want Bo out. I've never, at any level, seen punt coverage like that. Why do we even bother to put more than 3-4 guys out on the field? What the hell...that is a glaring beacon of light into Bo's HC ability. How can he watch that week in and week out and not step up and make a change? That's an HC duty, but he's either got his head in the sand, or just doesn't care. That's one glimpse so obvious even the casual fan can see the deficiency. But I can guarantee you the same deficiencies exists in other aspects of the game as well, most of us just aren't smart enough to see it so we go on thinking things are great. But opposing coaches see it. There is more to my evolving opinion than just the outcome of this game alone, but the purpose of this thread was to discuss the possibility or necessity of staff changes. On that topic, my opinion is that Bo should stay but must make some staff changes. To not do so would be to continue to bang his and our heads against the wall for another year. To state my reasons for "flip flopping" does not belong in this thread. If I get 5 +1's (attention whore!) I'll start a new thread to discuss my opinions in response to your bitter post. But then again, opinions about Bo's job security have been beaten to death already around here, so it's quite all right if no one cares about my particular opinion on that. It probably will not be worth it to get in a debate with the perpetually stubborn negative nellies.
  22. He's going to get a tremendous ovation from the crowd when he is announced, and he deserves it.
  23. http://journalstar.com/sports/columnists/sipple/steven-m-sipple-pelini-s-right-something-special-is-going/article_7cdf0536-f34a-5818-8f38-26cb1ba336a1.html I'm elated with the win against Penn State and have come back around to realizing that Bo deserves to stay, after having been down on the idea for much of the season. But I think perhaps Sipple is a little too caught up in the moment if he thinks no staff changes at all need to occur after the season. With this roller coaster of a season (again), how would you guys feel if we go into next season without making any changes at all?
  24. Single gunman. Lee Harvey Oswald acting alone. That's my guess. There are plenty of other possibilities but sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. Hell of a lucky shot, though. With a crappy rifle. On a road with an S turn. From guy who tested "marksman", which is the lowest score one can have to stay in the Marines. In the episode of Quantum Leap where he became Lee Harvey Oswald, he tested as "Sharpshooter" as a Marine and acted alone during the assassination. However, in the original history, Jackie was killed too, so Sam changed history and leaped out of there.
