  1. Well yes, by all accounts he was getting the coaching and guidance to be a great player. I mean, you can tell from listening to Tim Beck and Bo Pelini that they clearly had a way of motivating and developing, really bringing out the best from everyone they came in contact with......... Guy, I like most of what you have to say, but Jamal Turner is an athletic freak, much like Charles Jackson and now Pierson-El. One of these guys is gonna live up to the expectations and it's only because we will finally have a coach who finds a way to utilize his most talented players. Yes, I heard a rumor that Pelini was planning to kick Pierson-El in the ankle because he was too successful and Bo just couldn't stand it. Finally we're rid of that crappy 9 win coach Pelini.(10, I suppose if you count the Bowl)
  2. That there is funny........the coons are weighing in.
  3. I talked to someone in line at the grocery store who works in the athletic department and they said Scott Frost is next in line after Riley.
  4. I wish McBride had been the coach instead of Solich..........but that seems like a lifetime ago.
  5. Everybody I know who met him thought he was a good guy. Solich was another very friendly coach but I can badmouth him a little if it'll make you feel better.
  6. I don't believe for one second that he lied about that. Did he go off the rails in other areas? Yeah. But, there was quite a bit of smoke regarding Harvey when Osborne abruptly announced his retirement. Harvey has quite the ego, and we know Tom won't throw anyone under the bus.So you think Osborne is lying? He resigned in leu of being forced out. It's a technicality, but it's not a lie. Q: Were you forced out as A.D.? Osborne: I wasnt forced out. I resigned. And thats the end of the story. I don't trust Harvey at all, and I have little trust in Shawn. And the fact that they didn't consult with Osborne before firing Bo should give you an indication of the amount of respect they have for his opinion. Osborne is retired, why do we need to keep consulting his opinion? And what happens when the inevitable happens and he buys the farm? Do we then hire a Medium to contact him in the spirit word when we need to make decisions? He's retired, let the man be. And anyway, everyone knows the great Barry Alvarez has all the answers. Heck, he might as well come down here and coach.
  7. Vague. No one knows what you're talking aboutYou dont even know what you are talking about. Please enlighten me. If you read a couple posts above, he finally said something that makes sense. That's the only reason I came back to this thread, to see what the hell he's talking about.
  8. When an AD fires a 9 win coach after having little communication with him for two years, you know that AD was hired to fire him and was just biding his time waiting for an opportunity. The rest is all filler.
  9. I like what Scott had to say about Nebraska but I find it ironic that people on Husker boards used to trash him endlessly. After he did well in the NFL I used to like poking people about their brilliant observations.
  10. What does this have to do with the title you posted?
  11. It all made sense to me....hard to recruit to the iceberg league. I see the Bo- haters are still going strong. Probably won't be long before they switch over to Riley.
  12. I guess I'll go with Zack Darlington since he's a pretty good passer and can run good too. What will I win if I'm right?
  13. I'm just disappointed that neither of these guys will acknowledge that zone blocking involves sashaying around like a chorus line dancer and the occasional use of jazz hands.
  14. Good choice...he's done a good job. I was looking around for some confirmation of this and discovered it's Captain Warren....he's an Air Force Captain....now I'm even more impressed.
  15. I was gonna choose Michigan. UT is hardly down and out. Miami has been a basket case more than not. Nebraska depends on the recruiting and if they can play in ski gear on ice.
  16. My family is naturally very strong.....you don't wanna go there Are you the Mandelbaum's.......can you pick up a console TV?
  17. There are Nebraska kids playing football for better and higher ranked teams than the Huskers. Stanford has a good one right now. Kansas St. doesn't mind poaching our best players. The best players in this state should be playing for Nebraska. We aren't talking about all out devotion to recruiting this state. It's our own back yard! It's easy to know where the best players are and to evaluate them. Quit bitching about access to a private plane and just get in a car, drive an hour, and check out a game. Secondly, why do we act like we are recruiting ready to play all stars? The college game is where these kids are developed. Were we not able to evaluate the basic strengths of a player such as footwork and upper body strength? Hand strength? Or maybe, just maybe we knew player development wasn't a strong suit. I don't know. I'm glad the circus tents are gone and the show has left town. Everything we've heard about Riley says he's a talent evaluator, teacher and developer. Not a doubt in my mind he knows how to spot teachable kids and mold them. I know it's kind of a new concept for some of you. It's been awhile since we developed a player. Obviously recruiting Texas and Cali's three and four star players has just been miraculous for the former staff.....#9wins. So you're saying Bo didn't recruit Nebraska players? Seems like we hear that line of bull from the local sports writers who are perpetually desperate for a story every time there's a coaching change. The only one I know who missed big time was Callahan (and to some extent Solich) who thought Danny Woodhead wasn't big enough. I'm all for recruiting locals and the walkon program, but let's not turn it into some big failure of the former staff just because we're hurting for a story. And another thing, let's not act like we're the only program in the country that encourages walkons and develops unrecruited no-star players.......every school does.Oh, and Callahan more than made up for missing Woodhead when he got back to the NFL. I never said Bo didn't recruit Nebraska. Maybe he just didn't recruit Nebraska well enough. The whole premise of this topic is that coaches just want to see an increase in in-state offers. The author didn't just make this up out of thin air. There's a lot of people who don't think the best players in this state we're given a very hard look. Obviously this article is based off the opinions of some local HS coaches. So who knows better than those guys if their players were even scouted or noticed by the former staff? These coaches know. And they're the ones saying it. The writer just wrote the article. I like the talent on the team right now. All I said was that I'd like to see the best players in this state stay in this state. These HS coaches feel like there wasn't a lot of effort from the previous staff in making sure that happened. I think it's something the next staff should try to do if possible. I wouldn't ask them to pass on a more talented player at the same position just because the other player is from Nebraska. Fair enough......let's keep track of this and see what difference it makes.
  18. If coaching doesn't work out he could be a politician. He's very good at saying a bunch of popular sounding things without actually saying anything. We'll see his offense on the field next year......then we'll know what it is.
  19. This is all something that somehow, TO really understood. I firmly believe that if the Makovicka brothers were coming through school right now, they wouldn't even get looked at because they come from such a small school. Nebraska coaches that didn't grow up here and know the state just don't understand where and how to look for players in areas like that. Yet, the Mackovicka brothers came to NU as walk-ons, and they played a position that is nearly extinct in today's football. Nowadays, those same kids that went to NU as walk-ons, are now going to Ohio or Wyoming or a FCS school because the cost of going to college is so expensive. Those same players are recruited by Nebraska and play on special teams as well as two plays on Senior Day. Would a talented quarterback from Wood River still be recruited today? I'm thinking so. Scott Frost was more than a "talented QB from Wood River". He was a special athlete, regardless of the size of town he was from. But, look at guys like Bronson Marsh from Millard South or that kid from Waverly that came to NU as QB's. Those guys dominated high school play, but didn't do anything at the college level. Come to think of it, Osborne lost Frost to Stanford.....that guy really let us down with the instate recruiting. Hehe.
  20. We need a QB who is an ahove average passer who can at least move around little. And if he can do both above average, great. But we cant be recruiting the run first QBs who are below average passers. Just as a passing only QB can make an offense one dimensional, and make it much easier for defenses to key, so can a guy who can only run. Yeah, I'm done with quarterbacks who play basically like a second running back, dazzle everyone for half a season, then the injuries start taking a toll.......they're too knowledgeable to sit but too beat up to be anything near what they used to be. I think we're seeing this throughout college football, not just at Nebraska. Just give me a great passer and a pretty good scrambler.....let's let the running backs take turns with the running and maybe throw in the occasional QB sneak or bootleg.
  21. Yeah, I think Cross is pretty slow on outside runs whereas Pierson-El would be deadly. Can't say much about the rest because they haven't been tested much on either, but it wouldn't surprise me if this guy Wilbon or one of the other mystery backs makes a name for himself a couple games in. And I hate zone-read.

Nebraska coaches that didn't grow up here and know the state just don't understand where and how to look for players in areas like that. How many players was TO allowed to have on the sidelines? I think it was around 150 back in the 70's. I have all kinds of confidence that any standout Nebraska player will be easy to find. It seems to me the difference is whether the coach thinks that the one Nebraska guy is as good as the ten with similar stats he could recruit from a populated area. Again, I think this is another rehashed subject without much foundation that comes up every time we hire a new coach and the sports writer can't think of anything else to write about.
  24. Is Football Scoop the only one saying this? Is this complete BS?
