  1. lol I guess that is true. After next week, they may be hard to be found.
  2. The 4th quarter wasn't bad by no means but still to only beat Rutgers by 10?
  3. That was a really big win for Scott Frost and his Central Florida program. That is definitely a type win that helps Frost's case for being the next Nebraska head coach.
  4. I know the two sexy names are Bob Stoops and Chip Kelly but the likelihood of them coming is slim to none. Everytime someone says we need to find our Bob Stoops, well think look at top notch assistant coaches. Guys like Drevino at Michigan, Moorhead at Penn State, Venables at Clemson, Aranda at LSU, Rudolph at Wisconsin, etc. Those are some of the top assistants currently. Drevino would give you Harbaugh lite, Moorhead would give you a dynamic spread guy that has had success on his own as a head coach before (Fordham), Venables may be a K-Stater but he has had a lot of success for a long period of time, Aranda was lights out at Wisconsin and LSU (even though last week was rough) and lastly Rudolph may not be the primary play caller but he has been around Wisconsin football/lineman for a long long time and is Chryst's right hand man.
  5. Temple was more ground and pound under Rhule but not sure if the new head coach is more of a spread guy trying to run some of Rhule's stuff or trying to transition to a spread? Rhule, much like Taggert would've been good head coaches to look at if we were wanting to go more ground and pound but it looks like we are year to late with them.
  6. Actually retooling the offensive line to play a ground and pound style of offense should be easier than accumulating a lot of speed. We live in a region full of quality lineman... it is a reason so many schools run a ground and pound offense. Why we have struggled with our offensive line is mind blowing but imo much of it has been due to coaching and not so much the prospects themselves.
  7. When I think of Scott Frost and Nebraska, I always think back to this article from Smart Football from Frost. Would love to see the mixture of both offenses. For those that follow Frost closer at Central Florida, has he married some of the offenses together yet? http://smartfootball.com/uncategorized/combining-tom-osbornes-nebraska-offense-with-chip-kellys-oregon-offense-the-stuff-dreams-are-made-of#sthash.JSlgWqCg.dpbs
  8. I would be cool with Frost but I know there are some that don't like the idea because he is "to unproven" and "he is only a option because he is a Husker". Sometimes being a Husker is important and at this moment the idea of having someone that knows what a great Nebraska squad looks like is a major plus. You would have to think Frost would raise the accountability factor greatly.
  9. For those that don't like Dan Mullen, who would you prefer? I know some would say Chip Kelly but the likelihood of him coming to Nebraska is slim when he could go to a LSU or Texas A&M with much easier recruiting (which he hates). Bob Stoops not coming out of retirement either and if he did, it is probably Norte Dame. We aren't going to find many coaches better than Mullen. We are likely looking at Scott Frost, Les Miles, Troy Calhoun, Craig Bohl or some other young unproven coach like Frost. Heck even coordinators like Moorhead, Aranda or Drevino wouldn't surprise me.
  10. If we lose to Rutgers, he will be 100% fired sooner than later. Rutgers is VERY BAD and that may be being kind. You don't keep your job losing to programs like Rutgers. If we can't beat Rutgers, we can't beat anyone left on our schedule.
  11. When that time comes, we can worry about it then. In the present, run something that fits your base and gives you the best opportunity to win. I have yet to be proven wrong about a spread ever working in Lincoln, Nebraska. If we are going to hire someone to run a spread type of offense, it better be a Joe Moorhead.
  12. The majority of the B1G (for sure west) run a certain style of offense for a reason. It is what is easiest to recruit to base wise (all starts up front) and you don't have to be so speed depended across the board. You're not trying to out quick everyone but just trying to physically dominate them. Right now we don't out quick or out physical anyone period.
  13. I don't mind Tom Herman's power spread offense but honestly I'd much rather bring in someone like Troy Calhoun who still has an option-based offense but has featured zone blocking and vertical passing (though hardly passed again Michigan last week). His offense is not like that of other service academies. He would be able to open things up to a lot more with the talent Nebraska would have compared to what he has at Air Force.
  14. That may be true when it comes to some with concerns about option football (which I still believe can and should be ran) but it shouldn't matter when it comes to running power. That would be telling Wisconsin, Michigan, Stanford, Iowa, Oregon, etc. that they need to change their offenses because of safety concerns. Sooner than later everyone will just be running some soft crap spread with flags.
  15. Well if we went back to the old Tom Osborne offense, I'm sure Husker nation would have a little more patience to see it through compared to most any other type of offense. I just don't want to see some mamby pampy spread that everyone else runs that will just make us softer all-around imo.
  16. Yes coach was the master of calling plays and knowing what is the right play to call when certain defenses arises. it helped having a tremendous staff as well. It didn't matter what type of defense was thrown at us, our coaches knew what blocking assignments were needed pretty damn quickly. Coach was just the master of in-game foresight period!
  17. We don't need to go to a triple option (flexbone) attack to be honest. We actually didn't run a true one under coach Osborne. Nebraska ran a power running offense, with double option plays. We rarely if ever ran a true triple option. In a true triple option, the quarterback makes a read on the defense on whether or not to give the ball to the fullback. With us when the fullback got the ball it was almost always a called play. The option was on the pitch to the I-back, or for the quarterback to keep the ball. People say we can't run the old Osborne offense and I say BULL!!! Our power was basically I-back dive, I-back sprint draw, outside play (stretch), toss sweep, counter, isolation, fullback quick hitters, quarterback keep and quarterback sneaks all with inside/outside zone blocking. Plays that are still ran frequently by many others.
  18. Honestly I don't think we need that much higher recruiting classes overall but just need coaches that can actually coach the talent that we have present to the best of their abilities. Sure we want to be like the mid 90's or what Ohio State is now but in reality we should hope to be Wisconsin, Kansas State or Virginia Tech. These programs do not get top 25 classes but they coach their players to 9-11 win seasons regularly. Get to this point first and then we can hope to build to the very top.
  19. I wouldn't be against Dan Mullen as well. Probably Frost, Miles, Mullen and then possibly Bielema. Need to keep watching more of Durkin at Maryland to provide much of a opinion. Yes Bielema would be a tough pill to swallow as your head coach. God Wisconsin fans would be unbearable if he were here.
  20. At this moment I would say Scott Frost or Les Miles are the best two possible options. Not completely crazy about him but I guess Bret Bielema wouldn't be bad if the other two said no. I think Bieleme would be a good fit schematically and has had success in the B1G.
  21. I would love to go back to a offense with dual-threat QB running power out of the I and option mixed into it. We would be "different" than most anyone else and that would be tough for other teams to prepare for on a week to week bases. The academies and Georgia Tech run the flex-bone more times than not, we probably shouldn't run that offense but more of what we did under Osborne/Solich. If you aren't going to go back to a the Osborne style of offense, then at least adopt more of a offense mindset that Wisconsin, Stanford or Michigan run imo.
  22. As many know through the years (when I actually post) that I'm a big fan of smash mouth football (love offenses like what Wisconsin, Stanford & what Oregon is becoming). I believe that you need to recruit and build your program around who you are as a university and your fan base. We had a identity for many many years and that went away when Callahan was hired (we got soft). Sure we want all want speed but we are located in a region where you first and foremost need to be physical and be top notch on both sides along the lines. We just don't have that physical nature anymore along the offensive line. There is a reason other B1G West programs have as certain formula of the type of kids they bring in and the type of systems they run. We need to bring back that mentality. I think Riley's offense as a whole is not the issue, but it is the type of offense you need to have physicality to it. You need to be able to run the ball effectively down peoples throats. Less depended on throwing the ball a lot (sure that happens when you get down). The passing game opens up when you are running the ball well. Of course taking care of the ball is priority #1. I don't care what level the next head coach comes from, just bring in someone that has a proven track record of not only winning but being physical all-around. Someone a littler younger is a plus... bring some energy (not negative energy like Bo).
  23. The only issue we all have to remember about Eichorst going to Wisconsin is the fact it looks like they already have their successor in ex-Badger great Chris McIntosh who is the Deputy Athletic Director and Barry Alvarez's right hand man. If Eichorst is no more, it won't be because he is leaving as Wisconsin's new AD. Personally I think Riley "retires" after this year or next. 7-5 or worst and he is gone.
  24. Doesn't surprise me with Arnold committing to Wyoming. It has seemed he as waiting for us to offer but once he felt that offer wasn't coming, he was going to jump on board with Wyoming. I know Stofer (Kearney) and Walker (Lincoln) among other Nebraska kids visited Wyoming yesterday also. Not sure about Walker but I know Stofer is a strong possibility to Wyoming. These are kids that we use to get to walk-on in the old days and star but as we all know the recruiting game has changed. Kids aren't "hidden" anymore and with Bohl at Wyoming, Nebraska kids definitely aren't going to be overlooked. This was yet another strong year for lineman in-state but Nebraska can only take who they feel is the best. Bando is a Nebraska kid (even though playing at IMG this year) but I wonder back in the Osborne days if guys like Kittrel (Minnesota) and Arnold (Wyoming) among others were likely to be Huskers? I still think Gavin Rush (Aurora) who is starting at Wyoming as a true freshman would've been a really good Husker also but it is what it is I suppose.
  25. Seems us and Kansas State are the near lock to make a bowl game at 5-7. Sure KSU is 5-6 and has one more game against West Virginia to get to 6 wins outright but regardless they would go at 5-7 as well. To whatever bowls with the openings, Nebraska and Kansas State have to be very appealing off names alone. Seems Minnesota stands a great shot of getting a bowl as well. I know some may not want the bowl game from a pride factor of believing we don't deserve it but on the flip side the practice time given, the prestige of going to any bowl game period and the chance for the seniors to play one last game out weighs not going. Not to mention it is more money added to the B1G bowl pool to dish out. Getting Nebraska and Minnesota bowl games is a plus in that department.
