  1. Perhaps Tom's final major contribution to NU football. Thanks again Tom for the memories and bringing old ones back to life.
  2. OU would never go for it. MidGame Bob doesn't want any more obstacles in the way of his hunt for another national 10th place finish. Move Mich to same div as OSU and Wisky to our division. Then we don't have worry about the teams playing each other a week later in the CC game. Don't want any part of that. Move Michigan to same division as OSU and PSU, and I guarantee our division becomes much like the Big12 North. Most of the talent will reside in the UM, OSU, PSU (after sanctions) triumverant. We'd be in the "forgotten" West division. You don't think Wisc and NU can draw enought talent? Wisc, NU, MSU can be 3 pretty talented programs.
  3. It may be time for a true Libertarian. I've been disappointed in the Repubicans that I've voted for - Even though Rand is a Repub, I believe his heart is Libertarian. If we'd listen to his dad 20 years ago, we may not be in this mess today.
  4. By the way, If you were that billionaire and desired to leave the USA for a tax haven - where would you go? I love the mtns too much not to pass up Switzerland. Once I got there, I would run for parliment and seek to rename the country Osborneland. http://www.businesspundit.com/12-countries-with-the-highest-lowest-tax-rates/
  5. We'll be competitive as soon as we convince our factory workers to accept $1.36 per hour in wages. Until then . . . don't expect those jobs to return. It's not because of VAT, corporate tax rates, or tariffs. It's because workers in China, Bangladesh, etc. will do the same work at a fraction of the cost. I don't see an easy solution to that problem. Give tax breaks to compensate for the labor challenges. Ease up on some of the regulations. I would think we could come up wt some comprehensive plan that would help our manufacturing base beyond cutting wages to $1.36. As in the Hostess Cake situation, the unions need to be realistic as well with their salary demands. On the flip side, senior mgmt compensation/bonus should be balanced with other labor costs. Insentives from the govt should be matched by union/mgmt compessation package that is fair. Not sure how that would work, I sure don't want the govt to set the salaries for anyone in the private sector - slippery slope to real communism. Perhaps some forumula that if you want govt tax/regulation concessions there would be some range of salary ratios for a certain # of years.
  6. Good review. My big concern is Stein being out of the game. Our offense is playing wt a lot of confidence. Having Rex back, plus a seasoned AA in the backfield plus TM looking better on runs - it will be hard to stop our run game. Pass game - we shouldn't have issues. Turner is now more involved - we have 3 great wideouts plus the consistency of Cotton and Reid's speed. Too many weapons. As long as our D can hold up against the run - I think we win by 10+.
  7. Makes the road to the NCG a bit easier - not that they would have been much of a problem playing at their place.
  8. OU would never go for it. MidGame Bob doesn't want any more obstacles in the way of his hunt for another national 10th place finish. Move Mich to same div as OSU and Wisky to our division. Then we don't have worry about the teams playing each other a week later in the CC game.
  9. Move Wisky to our division and we'll play them every Friday after Thanksgiving. Iowa fans are a bunch of kids still searching for their brains. I can see a Wisky tradition developing over time to rival OU/NU. Esp after we beat them on Sat for the CC.
  10. That's a good set of verses for this thread. Good one!
  11. Agreed on both points 1. limit to max govt can tax individual - less we end up living under tyranny 2. Manufacturing: During WW2 we manufactured 94% approx of what we consumed in the USA. Our manufacturing base as been the greatest casualty of this "new world order" and with it - higher paying jobs. Manufacturing is the backbone to any economy - it not only drives salaries but it feeds so many other sectors - from the cafes near the manufacturing plants, housing demands, and all of the associated vendors/suppliers that support a manufacturer. We need a tax policy with incentives that reward businesses to bring back manufacturing jobs to the USA. We also need to have a tax structure that allows foreign manufactures to set up shop here as well. I believe we have the highest or one of the highest corp income taxes in the world - that is not an incentive. We also need a fair playing field with other countries. Tax, VAT, Tariffs all place USA manufacturing at a disadvantage. In many cases, it is more profitable for a USA manufacturer to set up shop in SE Asia, for example, and import the product back into the USA verse manufacturing it here. In the same, it is not as cost effiient to export a product to SE Asia versus building a plant there and selling what is manufactured there. GM has found that to be true - some of the bail out money they received was used to create new plants in China - providing jobs there instead of in the USA.
  12. The things that God hates is spelled out in Proverbs 6. 16There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17haughty eyes (PRIDE), a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers
  13. So that begs the question; If the person saying "God hates..." has a misunderstanding on the mind of god, how do the people who taught you that god doesn't hate anybody...know how the mind of god works? I think the logical answer would be if God wanted homosexuality in humans he would have given them the ability to procreate. note: this is not my view nor do I endorse it. I am just giving what I would think is the only logical reason why God would hate homosexuals. I would think God would take the extra step and make homosexuality a biological impossibility. Considering that homosexual traits are observed in other species as well, it seems to be something that just naturally arises in a subset of the population. Homosexuality can't be treated as an act that's running counter to nature, when it's nature itself that's the cause for such behavior. Since we're actually going to get into discussion here - there are two definitions of nature if we're going to assume for a second that God exists. The first definition is what we all understand, just simply according to the laws of nature. The second definition, however, is natural in the sense of the way that God originally intended for things to be. Homosexuality is only natural to the first sense of the definition. In much the same way that natural orientations towards anger, aggression, depression, and other less than ideal or preferred tendencies, homosexuality is a result of the effects of the disease of sin on this world. You're opening up an unfathomably huge can of worms in stating that God would step in and make certain "bad" things impossible, because where do you stop? If we're going to be consistent with the idea that God should disable evil things then the logical conclusion is that we would all be instantly eliminated, which...hey, weird, the Bible says that's exactly what we deserve and the fact that we're living is grace! Good post. As one Bible teacher told me, "We cannot enjoy a Hershey bar outside of the atonement of Christ". In otherwords, outside of the the grace of God and Christ's atonement, we all deserved death upon our 1st sin/disobedience. Biblically speaking, the apostle Paul placed Homosexuallity in the same group as liars, slanders, theifs, sexual sins, etc. - we all are falling short of the mark (Romans 3:23) but God loves all of us and gave us Christ's atonement to provide a way back to Him.
  14. one of the positives of Bo hiring these guys that had little or no Coordinator experience. Maybe they reward him by staying an extra year or two. Instead of taking HC jobs at smaller schools. If we have a lot of success with this group of coaches I hope the AD rewards them financially. A stable staff is very underrated especially in recruiting. Of our asisstant coaches, who is the most likely head coach possibility? Barney Cotton at a high school perhaps. It seems that Ron Brown is the only real 'journeyman' coach besides Cotton. But he hasn't shown a desire towards being a HC. I think Beck will be the first but his offense is still developing - I think he would want to work next year wt TM as the year sets up for a national championship run. He also has some great QB recruits - so he may want to stay longer and see if he can build an offense that is really special. I think offensively we have that potential - to be really great over the next 3-4 years. At this point, I think the D side of the ball, our assistant coaches don't have enough experience yet to be a HC. Joseph is doing a good job wt the DBs. Fisher has been a pleasant surprise wt the receivers. It is nice seeing receivers who actually block downfield once again in support of the run or the pass. My wish is that the new AD will reward coaches for loyalty and persuade them to stay long term. This is what created the Osborn steamroller in the 90s - on the field consistency begins wt coaching consistency.
  15. The above is actually me: TGHusker was Tulsa-Husker. I was gone for about a year from the board and could not log into my old account.
  16. Hard to pin point a year - I think there is always some type of cultural, ethnic strife going just due to the nature of men. However, there appears to be more of a push on ethnic identity in the last 30 years. Those who moved to the USA had been expected to melt into the culture, learn and speak English and think of themselves first as Americans. Maybe we had the same issues when the Irish came to the USA in mass back in the last half of the 1800s. Ethnic groups would tend to settle together to begin with due to common bonds and perhaps it takes several generations for ethnic groups to dispurse within the larger American culture. I don't recall growing up in the 60s and 70s this much talk about ethnic identity, etc. Even the term "African-American" wasn't used until the 1980s. I know some politicians like to play on the ethic differences we have in order to exploit one group vs another for their own political ambitions. FDR was the 1st to use 'identity' politics. Clinton and Obama mastered it.
  17. Check post #10 on page one. Unsure if this is the one that you were thinking of. Yes, that is the one thanks
  18. It was mentioned, but I didn't see an article on it until you posted. Thanks for the find. Who said they're stopping at 16? If they're willing, I could easily see Kansas, NC, and any combination of FSU, Clemson, Ga. Tech, Miami, Va. Tech, UVA getting a nod to go to 18 or 20. Barry Alvarez didn't just throw out that Superconference crap for nothing... Unless the Big 10 has some end game to pressure ND in, I'd like to see VA Tech (football & Virigina TVs), KU (basketball - just the BB - not much more in TV except during BB season). Looking at purely football - FSU (As we've yet revenged our 1993 - officials missing a 100 calls NCG), and VA Tech. Not sure if these schools are AAU qualified or not. Speaking of - is there any chance NU gets re-admitted into the AAU??
  19. A few years back some Russian eco/polictical guy predicted that the USA would split into 7 regions. Does anyone remember or know anything about it? I just remember it coming up on a radio interview some years ago. Regardsless, we have seen the 'balkenization' of the USA. No longer are we the great melting pot where everyone's cultural and nation of origin values get mixed into the pot and come out American. Now we have the hyphen-American on everything. Groups of people fight for their 'rights' based on their ethinic, race, gender, sexual orientation, cultural identity. Obama did a good job during the last 4 years dividing us along the economic lines. So we have balkenized by every conceivable idenity. When we no longer share a common culture, creed, vision, and ideals we cease being a united nation in a practical sense. This makes it much more difficult to govern effectively. We know longer govern by what is good for all of Americans as a whole but end up catering to special interests, groups etc. Both parties have their special interest groups - both parties have been involved in this balkenization process - as they craft laws based on their one special interests.
  20. I like the notion of the two division winners squaring off. But I think the bolded part would cause all sorts of logistics problems. Probably insurmountable logistics problems. Just slide Wisconsin over to the Legends division. Add Maryland and Rutgers to Leaders. Stop the cross rivalry game with PSU. Done. I say move Wiscy & Illinois to legends - move Michigan to leaders. End the cross div rival game. this allows the sacred OSU/Mich game to continue. I think Huskers and Wisky will develop a natural rivalry - call it the Big Red Trophy. Our trophy game wt Iowa will be one sided for many years to come.
  21. Agree, this (having mich in our division) also forces us to retain the annual cross over game - thus to keep the Mich and OSU game going yearly. I'd rather we move swap Mich for Wisc and do away with the cross over game if needed so that we can rotate the other schools into the schedule. Things would be much simplier if we went to a true East/West division.
  22. I can't believe Maryland would be considered. Pathetic sports. ND is my 1st choice, then if you can somehow grab FSU, GT or VT it would be great for football. GT and FSU would bring good recruiting areas into the fold but would add a lot of travel miles - the only drawback. I understand the draw of Rutgers - TV market and potential in football. Maryland adds nothing IMHO. It'd rather go after VT if it is about location - being closer than GT or FSU. For sentimental reasons, I'd like to see Kansas Basketball in the conference. That would be a very good addition - not much in the other sports. Wt NU football, we may still pull a lot of the KC TV market - Kansas would strengthen that but not add a new market like Rutgers would or a school in the south.
  23. Agree. Most of the discontent is based on the power of the fed gov't, wasteful spending, and the feeling that the 'our voices' aren't being heard in DC. The best gov't is the local govt where people have greater access and can more easily voice their concerns. A one size fits all approach that a large fed govt has to take, ends up being a one size disappoints most. States can be better at crafting programs that fit their local populations. The Constitution, if followed properly (balance federal and state rights and responsibilities) is a thing of beauty and was drafted by some pretty wise men.
