  1. It took a retweet for this to happen? Not misusing state property for sexually deviant and immoral acts? A retweet?
  2. "South Dakota lawmakers declare state of ’emergency’ to force repeal of voter-imposed ethics law" https://www.rawstory.com/2017/01/south-dakota-lawmakers-declare-state-of-emergency-to-force-repeal-of-voter-imposed-ethics-law/ "According to a statement from the advocacy group Represent South Dakota, lawmakers are now trying to use their “emergency powers to bypass normal check and balances, and repeal America’s first statement Anti-Corruption Act.”
  3. It would not shock me if the Trump Presidency is short lived. I would not be surprised if Pence, Ryan and Co knew that Trump would be impeached for the Russian dalliances, or the business interests, or something else entirely... but saw Trump as a means to the White House. They would act as a virus and Trump was simply the host and they will jettison him as quickly as possible at the first sign of trouble. I can't imagine they want to be handcuffed to him forever. Once the fit hits the shan, they can all say "We had no idea Trump would do XYZ. We are left with no other option. Pence will do a phenomenal job."
  4. Hope these marches lead to people getting involved, organizing, running for office, voting etc.
  5. I honestly don't have a problem with what doctors make. 8+ years of college and 300,000-400,000+ in debt, along with having our health in their hands.....they should be making a lot of money. And....your doctor's salary isn't the biggest problem with the cost of health care. But...it's a convenient boogie man. So when a doctor gets a bonus from a pharmaceutical company for prescribing needless medication, it doesn't concern or bother you?
  6. To be honest I have realized over the past month that many who post on this forum (not saying you) engage in groupthink and are not objective in any way. I can count at least 10 to 15 times in 2016 where I openly criticized Trump yet I do not see many of the Progressives on here, or those who lean to the left, that have openly criticized Obama multiple times. I have been focused on the football and recruiting forums primarily, and right now I am very optimistic and hopeful with where Husker Football is headed, and where this nation is headed, so why let the negativity of this forum get in the way. I'd love to hear your opinion on Rick Perry being in charge of the nukes.

Read: I have no rebuttal to concerns of Russian reports or grossly incompetent cabinet nominations, BUT OBAMA!!! This.
  8. Republican legislators across the country have quietly introduced a number of proposals to criminalize and discourage peaceful protest. https://theintercept.com/2017/01/19/republican-lawmakers-in-five-states-propose-bills-to-criminalize-peaceful-protest/
  9. I'd be interested in knowing how this is different from other Presidents. I have a hard time believing all other Presidents hire 690 people in two months. Not necessarily hire, but nominate. Granted it is a process. But I would imagine that it would typically be more than 28 with less than 24 hours till inauguration.
  10. Not sure if this is gross incompetence, or strategic.
  11. Gosh, and it's Obama's fault he didn't win these bigots over and improve race relations?
  12. "Trump plans to eliminate 25 violence against women grant programs as way to cut spending" https://mic.com/articles/165980/trump-plans-to-eliminate-25-violence-against-women-grant-programs-as-way-to-cut-spending#.74jGq1qPF
  13. Where you at Trumpeters and GOPers? Come defend this buffoonery.
  14. Asking again since none of you Trumpeters or GOPers seem to want to answer. How can you reconcile putting Rick Perry in charge of the nukes? I heard plenty of you "100% Pro Lifers" and Trumpeters tout Trump as a Pro Life candidate. How "Pro Life" is it to put Rick Perry, a supremely unqualified person in charge of the greatest killing force the world has ever seen?
  15. Photo taken of Simpson's family when the verdict was read. I gotta say, Jason's demeanor kinda looks like someone who just got away with murder.
  16. I do feel for Darden. He was just completely overmatched and in over his head. Not saying I agree with OJ's attorney's, but from a legal perspective they were utterly brilliant. It was particularly interesting though seeing Shapiro basically denounce his fellow attorneys after the verdict. I believe the Jason theory show is called "OJ is Innocent and I Can Prove it" which I believe is also the title of William Dear's book. I've read a bit about Dear's book. At the time, Jason was dealing with some psychotic episodes that resulted in violent outbursts. He was a chef and had instances of assaulting his coworkers/supervisors (once or twice with a knife). He had also been off and on medication for a few years. Dear had kept tabs on a storage locker that was rented by Jason as well. Jason missed some payments so it went up to auction and Dear snagged it. Inside was a box full of various belongings, including notebooks full of journal entries and also a knife that Dear believes was used in the murder. It's an interesting theory, however the clip in part 4 of OJ Made in America where Mike Gilbert talks about when he asked him "What happened that night?" makes me believe that OJ did it... that and all of the evidence lol.
  17. A few thoughts 1. It’s (still) the economy, stupid The expansion that began in June 2009 has been the weakest since World War II, with real gross domestic product growth averaging 2.1%. At 7 1/2 years and counting, it is also among the longest on record. But it hasn’t packed much of a punch. -So an unmitigated economic disaster that was decades in the making wasn't cleaned up fast enough? Really? Mmmk. 2. A Legacy of Ashes Obama’s continued popularity hasn’t had much of a trickle-down effect. In the eight years since he was first elected, Democrats have lost more than 1,000 seats at the state and national level. Republicans now control 4,170 state legislative seats compared with 3,129 for the Democrats, an all-time low. -Convenient that GOP gerrymandering and the gutting of the voting rights act (that resulted in nearly a thousand polling places closing since 2012) wasn't mentioned 3. Keep your friends close At his year-end press conference on Dec. 16, which was short on questions, long on answers, Obama spoke about his response to the Russian hacking of Democratic National Committee emails during the election. He said that when he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in China in September, he told him to “cut it out” in terms of the hacking. Sorry, Mr. President, the world isn’t afraid of you and your empty threats. Eight years of leading from behind has left America’s standing in the world diminished, its moral authority compromised and its foreign policy in tatters. -Has his record been perfect? Of course not, however foreign policy rarely yields simple answers and solutions. I'd rather take a stab at diplomacy than starting endless wars. 4. Divided we stand Obama may have broken racial barriers when he became the first African-American president of the U.S., but his election did nothing to improve race relations. -Obama isn't responsible for changing racist people's minds. 5. That which must not be named Radical Islamic terrorism. Obama has spent eight years deftly avoiding using those three words to call an act what it is. He has intellectualized his position by claiming the phrase “equates Islam with terrorism,” which is counterproductive to U.S. counterterrorism efforts. - Maybe he just took a lead from W and ran with it. But hey, why would we want to "intellectualize" anything anyway? "The terrorists are traitors to their own faith, trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself.” -George W. Bush "“There are thousands of Muslims who proudly call themselves Americans, and they know what I know — that the Muslim faith is based upon peace and love and compassion.” -George W. Bush
  18. Forgive me if this has already been discussed or posted about. So with the crummy weather this past weekend, I hunkered down and rewatched this documentary. Man, there's some fascinating stuff in there. I kept thinking how the whole case was such an incredible culmination of various parts of our society. LA in the 90s, race, wealth, status, fame, tabloid, celebrity worship, social class, justice system. I have also DVR'ed, however have not yet watched, another series about this case that focuses on William Dear's theory that OJ's son, Jason, was the culprit. Thoughts, feelings, opinions on the documentary or memories from the case in general?
  19. "Betsy DeVos apparently ‘confused’ about federal law protecting students with disabilities" https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/answer-sheet/wp/2017/01/17/betsy-devos-confused-about-federal-law-protecting-students-with-disabilities/?utm_term=.8eb5a71e276d Kaine asked her if she believes that all schools that receive federal funding — whether public, public charter or private — should be required to meet the requirements of IDEA. She responded: “I think they already are.” Kaine: “But I’m asking you a should question. Whether they are or not, we’ll get into that later.” He then repeated his question. DeVos said: “I think that is a matter that is best left to the states.” Kaine responded: “So some states might be good to kids with disabilities and other states might not be so good and, what then, people can just move around the country if they don’t like how kids are being treated?” Devos repeated: “I think that’s an issue that’s best left to the states.” Kaine said: “What about the federal requirement? It’s a federal law, the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act,” and he repeated his question. DeVos began speaking about a Florida voucher program for students with disabilities that requires students to sign away their IDEA due process rights. Kaine interrupted her saying, “Just yes or no.” But she continued, saying many parents are happy with the program. Kaine persisted: “I think all schools that receive federal funding — public, public charter, private — should be required to meet the conditions” of IDEA. He asked if she agreed. DeVos said: “I think that is certainly worth discussion.” Kaine interrupted her saying, “So you cannot yet agree with me.” Hey all you 100% Pro Lifers and "Trump surrounds himself with the best people" folks, do some backflips for me on this one. Every life is sacred right? Every life deserves a chance eh? Why not enforce federal laws that protect disabled children's right to an education?
  20. Because he is masterfully manipulating the next President. If he acts like he totally agrees with Trump and supports him in his trashing of the media and others who criticize him, he will have Trump begging for the chance to lick his shoes. Bingo. It's amazing to see people being played like fiddles.
  21. To me, health care is such an important and critical issue that I don't care who implements/improves it. If the GOP had proposed something more efficient and better than the ACA then that's phenomenal. But they didn't, and haven't. They're about to strip life saving health care from people. Explain that one to me all you "100% Pro Lifers"
