  1. This is Illinois were talking about here. I really don't think they coulda done much better.
  2. No but he's said before that USC is not the reason he was successful, but that Riley was. Point blank. Yea I've always got the impression the tie was more to Riley than USC. He speaks very highly of Riley.
  3. Bryant hasnt touched the ball yet..... agree, he should play at his natural weight. The reason I made the weight comment is because he was a little pudgy and too slow. I'm not saying a lot of weight. I'm thinking lose 5-10lbs of fat. If he converts it to muscle, great. Have to disagree here. I think he moves quite well for his size.
  4. just checking.... You do know Canada isn't in Europe. Ok...just making sure. Didn't want you to get over there and be disappointed. Haha grammar matters!
  5. Not sure how you can think we are just a big man away.. unless you are ignoring the play of the rest of the team. yes, the freshman got better, but like I said that is a given! Like I said, 1 year every 4 is what Tim Miles is best at. Look at his career coaching record. Only one time did he have 2 decent years, the rest one and done! Well I see at least 5 more potential wins on the schedule if we had a decent big man: Cincinnati Miami Maryland - Think we win that for sure with a big tOSU State Penn I would maybe even throw Purdue in there. They killed us on the boards in that game. If we had someone who could guard Hammons, that would have been a much different game. At least we aren't ASU!
  6. Yea I'm not really sure what his day to day duties would be either but I'm struggling to find more cons than pros in this hire. I don't see how someone with all that experience can be viewed as a negative, especially when it comes to scouting recruits.
  7. Hadn't heard anything about Devaney prior to this. Certainly can't hurt having a former pro scout on staff to help evaluate recruits
  8. And that's a perfect example of why people should keep negative comments about players/recruits off the board. Recruits do read it and it can absolutely have an impact.
  9. I'll add one more. He went from being a walk-on TE to being one of the best D tackles in the nation. That takes a totally different mind set than someone who comes in as a 4* player and everyone expects they are going to do great things. He had to work his ass off to get noticed and become the player he became. I always believe those kind of guys have a better chance of being a good coach because they know what it is like to have to work extremely hard to be able to do what is expected. Maybe they don't have the God given talent other players have but, he had the work ethic to over come that. Also, he knows kids can be developed like that. Now we can have an entire line of Jack Gangwish's! In seriousness, I do agree with what you are saying that it's advantageous having a former walk-on player, turned star, with that different perspective than most coaches. He's lived it so he knows better than most what it takes.
  10. LJS So if he was the only person offered the job, that has to mean that he was our first choice and basically the only one ever considered, right? Riley said he started with 50 candidates and narrowed it down to 10. So, no. He wasn't the ONLY one considered. Right, it is possible that he was our first choice and so therefore was the only one offered the job but that does not mean other candidates weren't considered. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
  11. A refreshing change isn't it...We've always done it.Really? Bc I can't think of a single instance where Pelini and co went after a player of this caliber.Few examples just looking at top 10 prospects with NU offers according to 247:2015: Martez Ivey #2 overall prospect, Byron Cowart #3 overall prospect, Iman Marshall #4 overall prospect, CeCe Jefferson #7 overall prospect, Josh Sweat #9 overall prospect. 2014: Jabrill Peppers #3 overall prospect, Da'Shawn Hand #5 overall prospect, Adoree Jackson #7 overall prospect, Tony Brown #9 overall prospect, Kyle Allen #10 overall prospect. I could go on but don't find it necessary. Fair enough, I stand corrected. For whatever reason is does seem like there are a lot more high profile offers going out though. Idk why when thats not the case, as you just showed.

  13. It may not have been all sunshine and lollipops, but the "culture" story has turned into the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Because one player says differently than the administration did? I think it is very likely that Bo did foster an inappropriate culture with the team. When players on the team and the new coaches (ala Mike Riley) are saying it was overblown, I'm going to go with what they say. I don't know about you but I wouldn't really expect them to say otherwise Correct, I wouldn't expect them to lie either. Haha well played. I'm not saying they are lying but I don't think they are going to be public about something that would be so negative for the fb program, if it were true. That would likely only make the situation worse.

  15. I've been to one game at the new arena and personally, I liked the century link more. There are a few reasons for that: 1) There's only one entrance to the arena and space is limited so it's like a herd of cattle trying to get into that one tiny little entrance 2) We were behind the opposing teams net and at times it was difficult to see what was happening on the other end. Seems like you were more elevated at the link so it was easier to see. 3) There were a decent amount of open seats and UNO was losing but the vibe wasn't quite the same. It might be different when it's a sold out game.
  16. Angus McClure is who I thought Sharpe mentioned quickly on air this morning. Would be a great hire IMO if true. EDIT - will need to go back through the podcasts, 2nd or 3rd segment to be sure but that is who I thought I heard him say. Interesting! I don't remember this guy at all but he's got a few ties to Nebraska apparently. Was an assistant for Callahan for two years, and was also the offensive line coach and run game coordinator for Turner Gill at Buffalo. Here's some more of his bio from UCLA's site: Seems like a fantastic hire if true, but are we putting all of our eggs into the California basket? Not a bad basket to be in. Having said that, this coaching staff showed plenty of ability to adapt to recruiting in the 500 mile radius, an area they hadn't had much experience in before.... They pretty much whiffed on everyone in that 500 mile radius they went after. The ones that signed were recruited hard or committed to Bo's staff. The high school relations guy sucked, was an arrogant A hole and told the coaches at the coaching clinic he didn't intend to recruit Nebraska much. He was so bad and screwed up so much they announced today he was reassigned. Going forward Kenny Wilhite has that role and he will excel at it. That's just not accurate. Farniok- Was far from locked up by Pelini. That was most definitely a recruiting win in the radius for 2016. ' Bryant- Wasn't even offered by the Pelini staff Wilson- Wasn't offered by Pelini. Stoll- No Pelini offer. Domann- All Riley & staff there. As for the lineman who were already committed (Raridon, Brokop). You act as if it's easy to keep kids committed in the middle of a coaching change. Did Pelini have them on the radar? Sure. Still a nice job by this coaching staff to keep them interested, and committed. Missing on a couple key prospects late, is for from "whiffing on everyone" in the area, and those two kids from Kansas are probably going to Clemson whether it was Pelini or Riley in charge..... Both Fant and Bubak were coming to NU until this staff messed it up. You seemed to miss out on them in your mentions. So no biggie we let the best two kids leave because we wouldn't call them back. I would take everyone listed above before Fant and Bubak. They were far from the best two kids. Back on track, I would love to see McClure get hired.
  17. It should be very interesting to see how this team plays without Shavon
  18. You honestly think with the way we ended this past season and with our recent recruiting class that things are going to be worse in 2017? I would say no at the current time but I think Riley's off to a very solid start
  19. 1)Lamar Jackson 2)POB 3)Farniok 4)Dismuke 5)Bryant If I could add a sixth it'd be Grim
  20. Agree! Well, that will depend on Miles coming up with an offensive system that isn't dependent on one-player being the lead guy. I have seen a lot of criticism put on Shields for him being too much like Petteway this year. But, if he's being asked to run the offense by Miles, then the blame shouldn't be put on Shields. Shields won the game at Michigan State playing that way, but he's had a tougher time in the past 3 games. NU is getting torched on the defensive end due to their lack of size. The offense hasn't really been the problem this year. I don't think Miles knew what he was going to really have this year with all the young players. The only thing he knew was a for sure thing this year was Shavon (and Benny, who I admire for his effort but he's just not good enough). Would you not design an offense that runs through your proven Senior? It was the exact same thing with Petteway last year. This team has hinged winning/losing too much on one player the last two years. Which is why I say once the older players graduate, I'm not sure I see one guy being "the guy" like it has been. If we had a big man I guarantee we win some of these close games, it really is killing us defensively. However, when you have an offense that can go 5+ minutes at a time with no points, that is definitely a problem. A big would do wonders for fixing that problem as well.
  21. I think we will start winning these games as some of the older players graduate, the younger guys get more experience and we stop shooting 32% from the floor. Hopefully as some of the older players graduate, we stop running the Terran Petteway offense and we see a nice increase in shooting %.
