  1. The main thing I want to see is a W for Nebraska at the end of the game. With that said here are somethings I want to see: 5 or less total penalties against us all field goals 35 yards or less made 2 or less sacks / tackle for loss allowed + 3 in turnover margin improved play by D-Backs and O-Line
  2. I would assume a single running back should gain at least 100 yards against South Alabama, Southern Miss, Illinois, Purdue, and Rutgers. Miami could be another game where we surpass that mark. We will have to see how the coaching staff addresses establishing the run over the course of the next few games. I think Wilbon and Cross looked better than Newby last week. I wouldn't be surprised if Wilbon makes a case to be the starter at some point this season. I would love to see what Taylor could bring to the table as well.
  3. What, no "You saw the game, what do you think?" comments from the coach in the post game presser????
  4. Say what you've got to say, don't beat around the bush about it. I don't remember the tweet. I agree. Too much is being put into the weight of our LBs. This "weight" at LB conversation needs to die. If you aren't athletic at your weight, who gives a crap what you weigh. Osborne and McBride figured this out a long time ago. Apparently fans are still obsessed with it for some reason. You don't pack too much mass on a guy if it makes him unable to move well.......you just don't. I couldn't have said it better myself. Lavonte David was only around 215 at Nebraska if my memory serves me correct. I don't see any Husker fans complaining about his performances while here.
  5. I'm not opposed to changing the tunnel walk song, but I like Sirius a lot better than that song.
  6. Honestly, I think Westerkamp is one that the last staff's scheme did a huge disservice to. With very little to no blocking on the line at the point of the punt, the returners had absolutely no time to catch the ball without someone in their face, getting hit...etc. I think that is what hurt their confidence in doing the job. It is possible he could be decent at the job in a different scheme if his confidence can be built back up. Yeah, it seems like they had Westerkamp in there to fair catch the ball in traffic. How many times did he catch the ball in a crowd of two or three guys. That's just giving up on any sort of return. I think Westy will do just fine returning the ball and may even surprise some people. I'm more concerned about him getting hurt back there. I agree. I really hope we put a running back or defensive back at punt and kickoff returns. I would hate to loose another key Receiver.
  7. Yes. I agree, this hurts but, I also don't think it amounts to7 or 10 points per game as some have made a case for. Our whole return game may be worth those type of points but we will still have a return game. Somebody is going to have to step up and pick up the slack. The replacement likely won't be as dynamic or productive as DPE has shown he can be but we've got other athletes, some of whom I'm sure have some speed and wiggle. Yes, probably a lower probability of taking it to the house or flipping the field the field as much but hopefully still a respectable return game. And he may be back before the majority of our conference games. We'll survive me thinks....just may not be as fun to watch those first 5 or so games. You're absolutely right. This totally sucks, but claiming it is a 7 to 10 point difference is borderline absurd. From a gambling/vegas perspective it hardly made a dent. Yesterday the line for the BYU game was -6.5. Today it is still -6.5 some places and -6 other places. This is a bad loss, and I feel horrible for DPE, but generally speaking it is not the difference between winning and losing a close game. I suppose you beat me to the punch as this is the post right before mine which didn't show on my screen until after I refreshed.
  8. Has anybody checked if Vegas Odds changed to BYU's favor for the opener because of this? I was looking yesterday and we were only a 5.5 point favorite.
  9. If he is not 100% by the Minnesota Game, it may be worth red-shirting him.
  10. It will be interesting to see if one of the true freshmen next year challenge an experienced Tommy Armstrong for the starting position.
  11. just out of curiosity, Why do people believe that Michael Rose Ivy is going to be the defensive starter missing this game? I haven't heard any details on this belief yet.
  12. I appreciate the post. I don't go over to Huskermax and I agree it is nice to read all position posts in one spot. Thank you!
  13. How could you not love going to work with a job like that?
  14. I missed my brothers wedding because he scheduled it in November on a Colorado game day. His wife was pissed. I didn't care. That game has been scheduled far enough in advance that you shouldn't have to make a choice. Tell your brother you'll make it to his next one. How selfish of those people who think they can schedule a wedding on game day!! That drives me nuts!! I've already told my family and friends that if they have a wedding on game day, don't bother sending me an invitation. You have all spring and summer to have a wedding! Gosh, have some common decency people! I feel for you 1995 Redux, and you made the right decision Tomhusker64. Last year I had to miss the Nebraska Fresno State game due to my brother in laws wedding. He played college football in Ohio as well and to this day, I can't understand how some grooms allow their wedding to take place during football season. Every year since I have been married, my wife has had me go to one of her friends / relatives weddings across the nation during football season. A couple of times she got upset I took my I-Pad and streamed the game during the reception. I told her from this point on I am not missing any games due to weddings and she has agreed. I may make one exception as she has a friend who lives in England who recently became engaged. If they plan their wedding during the fall, I would probably travel for that experience, pending who we are playing of course. If it is a Purdue or Illinois game no big deal but not for a Wisconsin or Michigan State game.
  15. Riley is smart. The reporter and Riley have been friends for years. Everything that was said and everything published was planned and coordinated. Nothing got released that Riley didnt want out there. He is smart and is using this information to keep things open with fans. One of the biggest downfalls with Bo and company was how they were so secretive. He also puts information out there that isnt "leaked" so doesnt feel like gossip but gives the fans an insight. He also motivates linebackers, and DB's and freshman to keep them on their toes. At first i was surprised by all the information, but the more i think about it... It is a super smart power play that does a lot more good than bad. Well said, and I tend to agree with you.
  16. I would say there are certain things I am excited or as funhusker put it "anxious". I would say first I want to see what kind of conditioning changes have occurred with the new S&C staff. I think that will pay dividends this season. I am anxious to see if this staff can improve the mental stability of the players in games. Hopefully keeping composure from the staff will rub off on the players and improve focus and decision making. I am excited to see if quarterback play improves at all. I think at running back Newby will step up but I am more excited to see if Wilbon makes some plays as I think he has the tangibles to be a great back. I am excited to see if Michael Rose Ivy steps up this year as well as the rest of the Linebackers. I think the I am equally nervous as I am excited to see what Mark Banker does with the defense. I hope he manages games much better than coach Pap.
  17. I had fun. I went with my Dad who has a piece of Husker Memorbelia he has had every head coach sign since he has been alive and I took my little brother from Big Brothers Big Sisters. He had a blast which made me happy. I have a couple complaints though. I wish they had all the coaches in the same line like they have in years past. I had a ball dedicated for just the coaches autographs under the Pelini era and wanted to have one for Riley's staff as well. I also didn't like how they split the freshmen up into three seperate areas. I take my own fine point sharpie and have the freshmen sign a ball small so I can fit four years of players on the same ball. I only got through two of the three freshmen tables. I really wish I could have had the Davis twins autographs on the ball as thats the table I missed. Fans formed one line to go through two of the tables and then a second line to go through the third.
  18. I have a feeling the crowd will be like a home game for us. It should be a sea of red.
  19. I think we all just expect MSU to be pretty good this year. QB play will be great as well as their defense. Also, we all kind of expect to drop a couple games this year. So the comfy pick is to lose to the top rated team on our schedule. Honestly, there isn't a game on the season we couldn't win if the staff and players click automatically and the injury bug is kind to us. But in reality there will be a few times where there is confusion between what we want to do and what we end up doing. The transition will be smoother than expected, but not perfect. That alone plus a couple key losses at important positions will be our biggest downfall this year. I have a feeling we will see an improvment with the strength and conditioning staff at hand. I am hoping that translated to fewer injuries but there are some things you just can't prevent. I also hope that the new psychiatrist helps out with student athletes on the playing field.
